I will be on vacation from Monday onwards. Do you ever thought of bringing some educational books for your children while on vacation? Sounds nice and interesting ideas for me. So, i bring along some books for him to study while having some vacation. At least, he can still spend some time into studies and increase his knowledge, if he is tired with the new surroundings. I think it will be a good ideas for children. How you think?

That would be a great idea. It may be a vacation but at least educational for them and if there are things that they don't understand on what they're reading, it could be a great bonding moment with you and your kids cause you can seat besides them and have a discussion :) I did that with my niece and it was fun cause there's an interaction.

Yeah, but children may not want to do that, especially on vacation.

In fact, i do bring along three types of books. One is story book, educational book and another is IQ book. And guess what, he loves to see his educational book more than the other books. Because he like to see the surrounding and based on his book, he start asking funny and interesting questions. It do makes me very busy answering his questions as well.

yes it could be difficult to deal with it but there are a lot ways to have that interaction like using the things that would interest your kids which is found in the place where you are like for toddlers, counting trees or birds, hehe that would be fun i guess...for teenagers it could be trivias and other games :)

That is an excellent idea and I use to during the summer buy some also and take out certain pages that I expected my children to complete. I use to sit with them when I got home from work and check to make sure it was done right. If so they got special treats, like their favorite desserts. It worked well with me as I was very consistent with it.
Have a wonderful vacation.

Yes since it was summer vacation then upon completing the work properly I would often treat them to something they liked.

I should add that if they rushed through it and or did not then they did not get the treat. lol

We always took books along for our children. They also enjoyed looking at the books their relatives had when we visited them. Books are a wonderful pass time.

Don't worry, Elic, Steph and Bagarad. I won't makes my son feel sad during vacation time. i am only bringing some educational books, in case he wants to spend some time indoor. Because from my own experienced before, me and my sibling don't really loves outdoor games much. Or maybe boy are different. Just bring along and see how it goes...Have a nice weekend, friends...

Nope, the educational book is not textbook or workbook, Silpa and Bagarad. It is like a dictionary book, where it explained the animal or things with a spelling and a colorful picture. At least, he is learning something new while traveling and stay in this village. Because children's brain is always looking for positive input. I tried to make his learning process goes easier.

I would not bring textbooks or workbooks. Sometimes bookstores where you are going may have activity books or field guides related to the place or state or country with puzzles, games, and coloring pages that might be fun and also help children learn more about the place. If there are famous people from this place, you might visit some of the places related to them and teach your children about the person and what he did in those places.
Most attractions have related books you can buy related to them. If you are going to a beach, take some good non-fiction books that are age-appropriate that answer questions about the waves, the sand, creatures you might encounter, etc. Kids do have questions. But workbooks to a kid might be like having to take your taxes to work on while on vacation. Give them time to find their own activities.
If your children are small, take some legos or playmobile sets that are related to what they may be going to see and do. Then they can incorporate it into their playing, and continue to use them when they come home to relieve the trip. Our kids did that. If they are older, they may get creative ideas like my daughter did after we visited the cliff dwellings at Meas Verde National Park and she made what you see in the picture below.

Hi myfb!
I think that's a good idea! It's good to read books during your children's playing time. It's good to study while having fun.
I don't have children and I have not been on a long vacation with my nieces or nephews but in my case, there were times that I brought books during my long travel. There was one time when I brought my book and notes on one of my subjects at school during a field work where I had to stay for a night in a place without television or anything. So I just read my book and my notes before I went to sleep that night.

Yes, bringing along books while vacation is quite interesting especially when we unable to spend more time outdoor. We can always read our books when we are bored sitting indoor without tv. Luckily, my aunt' home have tv but we don't have the time to watch it. As for the books, my son only get interested to flip the book when it is raining outside. Because i don't allow him to play under the rain as he had caught flu at that time.

Hi myfb
Our vacation falls in the middle of the year (every year) and there may be much works from school to do on holidays as in the name of ‘holiday home works’. I have to take the study materials and this list with us. In between it is difficult to find time to do the works, but it is a must do situation. Usually my son finishes half works in his vacation and rest will do once we return to this place.
Let your son enjoy.

Hi Sreekala, so you have home works to do although it is holiday. Are you a teacher yourself? Because my ex-classmates who are teachers, are seems very busy and their holidays seems like no holidays at all. As for my son, i usually prefer him to complete his home works first before go on holidays. Happy Diwali to you...

I think this is a mistake. I think children should have some time to just be kids and enjoy time away from school work of any kind. I was always taken to interesting places on my vacations. Where I could learn some history or something. I don't think that vacation is a place for work. What if your boss made you take some work with you on your vacation? How would you feel?

Hi Celtice, don't worry, i didn't ask my son to study when he is enjoying his fun with his cousins. I only give him study when it is raining outside, as he seems quite boring staying indoor. So, i felt happy that i bring along educational book for him to read, write, draw and color at that time.

You don't say how old your child is, but I find with mine that you can buy sticker books with stars for when they get answers right, which they're willing to do on a long journey. If anything, I think that they might actually enjoy it. If they are young children, then simply taking books along at all can help to improve their reading, and you could encourage for them to keep a diary of the holiday while they're there, as that would help them to be able to improve their writing while they were having a good time on holiday at the same time.

Hi Gemma, my son is 5 years old at this moment. He don't really likes sticker book. He prefer book that allow him to read and color. He loves to color pictures and do spelling at the same time. He will only flipping his book only when he is bored staying indoor. Other wise, when the weather is fine, he will be seen playing outdoor with his cousins.

It is a very good idea to bring education books for your children while on your way to vacation. You can also bring in some other educational stuffs that you have at home. When you do this, your children will not be bored on the way on your family's vacation. Have fun!

yes, that's why i bring along these extra educational book and even some games. So, he won't feels bored in case he has to spend some time indoor. Indeed, it happened that he had to spend 2 days indoor since he had fall ills along with me and my hubby. So, it makes him not feeling bored at all.

hello sis,
That is a good idea.
Each time we spend our vacation in my hometown, I don't bring books with us.
There are lots of books and educational magazine in my parents house and my kids loves it so much esp the NatGeo books and mags.
Enjoy your vacation then

i have never brought books...much less educational books on vacation i mean why would they call it vacation but that is just my personal opinion and it is kind of biased because i simply do not like reading or studying (no offence to those who do) i think if that is one of your hobbies then yes you should bring some even though you are on vacation sometimes it can get kind of boring and reading or studying is a good way to spend your spare time

Yes, i must agreed everyone have their own way of spending their vacation time. Since most of the time, the weather is always raining, we spend most time in my aunt's home rather then walking around. So, bringing along the books seems a blessing for me since my son able to spend his time reading and do some activity in the book, so won't feel bored.

Funny that you mention vacation....I'm starting mine on Monday too and I'm bringing some reading material for myself since I have no children.
Don't overdo the studying though cause you both are on vacation.

Hiya myfb,
Always good for children to have books and board games around that can teach them new things.
Kids can get bored anywhere and television can keep them entertained for a while but then they look for other things to do even if they are still watching the Television.
Hope you enjoyed your Holidays and the Children did´nt get bored.
Have a great week myfb nice to catch up with you even if it is a bit late.xxx

Well, I'm not having children, so I can not say me much on this topic. However, if you really want to know my opinion, I do not believe that to bring books on holiday is a bad thing. Also because I suppose they must also do the tasks.
However one thing I would say, please leave these children to give their carefree and not force them too much with the study. They, like all also need to "freshen up".

I think it will be a great idea. He can always do some reading before bedtime. Or maybe some educational puzzle books to keep the mind active. Have a great vacation.

It is one of the best thing you could ever do for the children. That will certainly enhance their knowledge and they will become well educated children. Moreover, vacation are the best time to shop for the best things in life as you have all the time to move from place to place without the restriction of office employment. You could also go further if you have all the money to buy things like toys, cakes and biscuits that will make the kids very happy! My dear, I wish you a happy vacation!

Well I do take some comic books and novels with me while I'm travelling. It doesn't matter if I have read them already, but I still carry a book or two whenever I am travelling. Just in case I don't get bored.
