How important is your star/reputation to you?

I am totally amazed at how some myLot users seem to let the the color or number of their star/reputation affect their myLot participation. Allowing the opinion of unknown Cyber acquaintance to control my enjoyment of myLot is IMO unbelievable . Seeing the constant posting, even from long time members, of discussions about how much even 1% increase or decrease in their reputation seems to be a very important event in their lives. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 5 years of daily posting and participating in the myLot community without constantly worrying about my reputation. I cannot help but think how this compulsion must spoil a users enjoyment of myLot. Do you allow other people's onion of you to interfere with your enjoyment of this simple pastime? Is it really that important to allow the opinion of people who do not really know you but only know the online persona you has created to become so important that any deviation from your star/reputation becomes a serious happening? I would like your opinion?

The star here affects our earnings and many Lotters use their time on myLot to gain extra earnings to make ends meet or pay for something which they would not otherwise be able to pay for. Therefore when their star goes up, they are obviously happy. Many of us may never have met up in person with their myLot friends but that does not mean that real friendships have not developed. Friendships do not depend on appearances but on thoughts and beliefs, trust and honesty and all of those are possible on internet, especially when people are honest and let their feelings show through. Some of us once had a higher star and saw it bashed down by others who had nothing better to do with their time. They were unable to achieve a higher star themselves so they made sure that there were others who were going to lose theirs, and consequently their earning capacity too. When I see our top-rated user, who I know enjoys their time here and speaks their mind too, with a 1% rise in their star I am happy for them too. It shows that they have many who appreciate their efforts, patience and stamina here - and bearing in mind that the particular user is also older than probably everyone else here, it is a joy to see them expressing their happiness publicly. I hope that, if I reach that age, I will still have that same amount of energy to pour into everything that I do too. I notice that there are many with either the highest star or the same coloured star for a long period of time who state that they are not concerned about their own star. That may well be the case but those with the highest star should realise that it was thanks to others here that they achieved it and those with their own star stuck since forever should maybe ask themselves where their friends are. Oh, I forgot that some of them don't believe in friendships here therefore it is extremely likely that it will remain stuck forever - and they probably know this and therefore are annoyed by others who rejoice when theirs moves in one direction or another. MyLot is indeed a slice of life

hi diana thanks I am just me and that's all I can ever by but at least I am honest with it when I do anything I really like, I get passionate about it and whats wrong with that as long as I mind the rules and do not hurt other people? we all have different mind sets and that's fine. if we were all alike it would be very boring indeed.I am not honestly ashamed of me at all. .loll

I have seen the colour of your star rise and fall. I noticed that you had strong opinions on certain issues, and you stood by them. That was one of the reasons why I requested to be your friend. We have differences but that is part of diversity in life.

A champion does not need the acceptance of anyone. He knows what he wants and works towards getting it. He is in control of his life. He doesn't let anyone else control his life. He is not rude or inconsiderate of others. He just knows that success depends on what he does and not what someone else does or says. He is true to himself and will stand even if everyone is against him. I used to be concerned about my star but if someone that doesn't like what I say or believe wants to bring me down, I will not let them. I'm just going live my happy life and let them be happy in their misery.

I think that is pretty normal when you are new on mylot. You want to improve, you want to figure out how to make more money, you notice the stars or ratings on some people are more than yours and try to do better. It becomes an obsession. Mine only lasted a little while and then I said to myself...whatever...and then just enjoyed it. I do tend to befriend those with higher stars, though...LOL...like they have more insight or something. LOL

Yes i can see that happening when you are new but I am seeing these type of "OMG my Star has fallen or how happy I am my star rep has in increased by 1%" from long time myLot users. I never accept or deny myLot friendships based on a persons star rating. I find a some of 10 (blue/star)users kind of boring as they seem to be too careful they do not "rock the boat" so only post mediocre discussions and responses.

Too be perfectly honest, when I first got my star rating I paid attention to it; but, I have been here on mylot for a long time and I no longer pay attention to it. Right now I am not even sure what it is and I do not care enough to go to one of my posts to see what it is. I found that people with high ratings didn't post discussions that were any more interesting than people with lower ratings. So, if people with lower scores (5 - 6) were still posting interesting discussions I would still read them and respond to them. As far as letting my rating affect how much I post, that is actually controlled by how much or how little free time I have. Not by some number that has been assigned to me by others.

Thank you...that is how I feel. Some days I only read a few discussion from friends without even posting. I have noticed that some of the blue/ten star user are very careful they do post anything to controversial and seldom give a really strong opinion of anything.

Star rating is very important for me. Right now I want to increase the rating to the next level. I think most people love having blue or ten star to their names.

As you can see, my rating is a 9. It has been there ever since myLot came out with rating stars (a long time ago). When they first came out, I noticed that some of my "friends" who wrote excellent discussions had stars that were much lower and some people that wrote "junk" had 10's. I also noticed that once they were issued, they rarely (if ever) changed. So, I ignore my rating, write things that will: 1) inform people about things they may have missed 2) stir things up and make people think 3) help others I read and respond to anything that interests me. And, since I have enough stress in my life already, I do not add more stress by worrying about something that I have no control over.

hi whiteheather should it be different strokes for different folks? I mean its not against the rule here in mylot to care about your star or reputation.I am just me,I get engrossed in things I like and believe me mylots much more fun than a retirement center. I am enjoying my lot a lot and have always enjoyed being here and responding to my friends discussions.I am me, too late to changer me now.lol no I have not worried ab out my star as a nine is just fine but I was surprised after months at 93 it did rise to 94.This is not any compulsion, this is me being me, and you being you, we are unalike and theres nothing wrong with that really . live and let live is my motto. I do not constantly worry about anything at all, and thats okay too. worry causes stress, stress causes me to have high blood sugar so am not stressing on any thing.and I am not constantly posting about my reputation. You really do not know me. anyway different strokes for different bolks. peace. hugs

I am so happy to hear you are not stressing any more whether it is about your star or deleted discussion (which was not really deleted). I know from being an older user myself that stressing over anything on a website such as myLot is not only dangerous but futile. I am just glad you have all your marbles and hope I will keep mine too.

I think I started My lot about 5 years ago. As you know, I have been on and off twice. At first, I know my aim was to get the big then, and if I recall, it didn' take that long. It has never fallen below ten. In the past, I would have been disconcerted about any drop, if it had occrued. But now, I couldn't care less what my rating is. The only reason that yours gets below ten, is because people don't agree with your politics. Or at least a few people, and they can't seem to agree to disagree!

Jenny you are so correct we started here bot about the same time. You hit the nail on the head when you said my star dropped because I am very outspoken with my Opinion in Politics. I do not mince my words when it come to our usurper president Obama and some of his die hard fans got together and rated me negative (-). Now I would wonder what is wrong if my reputation should increase (although I would not notice). I wear my Yellow Star as a gold badge of honor.

My reputation here in mylot doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I do not exactly understand how it could affect your earnings as they said it does. But no matter what my star is here it definitely ok with me. I enjoy what I am doing and as long as my posts do not put down the opinion of others then maybe I deserve my star. I do not even know how did it become 9 hehe.

You said you do not understand how the reputation affects your earnings the FAQs state: The DRS is factored into our proprietary earnings algorithm, so this will help us properly reward valuable contributions to the myLot community. http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx As the earnings algorithm is a well guarded secret no-one really know how much of a difference it makes to your earnings.

It would be nice to have the highest star/number/percentage ranking, but I am not obsessed with it. Since other members play a large part in the ranking system, there are bound to be fluctuations in the level. I always try to take a middle or moderate approach when presenting my viewpoint(s). It is my style. Nevertheless I can be harsh too.

Sadly sometimes we gets trolls here on myLot and when another user dislikes you or your opinions they will get a posse of friend the rate as many of you posts negative (-). If you have a low number of accumulated points that does not take long to affect your reputation/star.

My opinion is much like yours.I am me first off and then a mom and a grandmother and a wife, I have my dogs, cats and numerous other activities........... I don't have time to worry about a color of a star....I am just who I am. First off again, I like ME. If you don't like me or my discussion, delete me....I will you ! Mylot is good and I find sometimes I dont have time to do it, but I'm around ! I read some, delete a few and answer some...........I have friends here I never intend to meet.........and yet I have at least one close friend here,(name with held) that I definately intend to visit or she will visit me......that is how important Mylot is to me........FRIENDS :) ............ And, I kinda think that says it alll.... Hugs to ya and thanks for letting me tell ya :) quita

Quita your response says it all. You are one of the few friends I have you are truly a good friend. I have the same activities as you and do not always have time to respond. I do manage to login and read some of my friends discussions but do not always have time to respond. I certainly do not have time to even give my star a second thought.

Well I'm currently at my highest level. I speak my mind and someone slams me down. I make a joke and up I go again! Personally, I would get worried if my rating went too high. I would think I'm doing something wrong or licking someone's butt! What me worry!

im sorry i never quite understood what the star meant i tried to look it up under frequently asked questions and found nothing to help me there my star is not that important to me though neither is my reputation on here the only reason i am on here is to make money so i dont care what my star is so does the stars number or color of the star effect how much you are paid on here? if the better your star or reputation is means you got paid more then yes i would care about it so how do you build your star up or get a better reputation and how do you get a bad reputation?

I'm really not that bothered about my reputation. I mean come on, some people even abuse the reputation system by putting a - just because they don't like the content of the discussion, I think that's pretty unfair. And I don't really get what the big deal about it is to be honest... However, it does feel good when your reputation does go up, I'll be honest about that :)

At first it was so important to me to raise my star, but I'm actually not worry right now. If I see that I'm at a high level than great. I know that I'm typing high quality posts and the people that gave me reputation must have liked my opinions. If it was at a low level, then yeah it will suck, but I'll just keep posting what I think and I'm sure it'll go back up again. Either way it's not going to stop me from posting my opinions on myLot.

I personally don't pay attention to the stars and reputation, but again I wouldn't want to be in the low numbers. I have been a member of mylot for maybe a year at most, unfortunately I don't have as much time to dedicate to the site like I would've liked, but I like to make the time I do count for something. I like speaking my mind and openly having discussions hear. I have yet to have any type of confrontation with any members. I have noticed that we speak openly buy with care, we're hear to discuss not to fight. I also like my discussion to mean something not just post something for the hell of it. That to me is no fun. I have gained my reputation and rating based on how I actually respond and my quality of responses, that is just the way I am. I don't worry at all about my ratings, because I know that I am doing what I like and enjoy in mylot.
