Is it possible to edit the ownership of a car title?

Since a car title is a legal document, I would imagine that changing ANY of it after it has been issued and without resubmitting it for proper authority would constitute 'defacement' and would invalidate the whole document. It would really depend on how much of a material change substituting "or" for "and" made. Is it really because you live in Virginia that you have cause to wonder about such things? It makes me begin to wonder about Virginians!
