Do you collect anything?

Not long after we were married, my husband began collecting stamps. He would buy the new ones that came out every month. They came in singles and in large sheets and they always had a story behind them.I found them to be very interesting. After about 20 years, we needed money so he sold his collection. I always regretted that he had to do that. After that, he began collecting, and buying and selling license plates. Not as intersting as as stamps, but still interesting. Hubby could tell you about the plates of each state just by seeing their license plate and most states have several types. He also collected foreign license plates from worldwide collectors. Again, money problems came along and he sold most of his collection on eBay. The only things we seem to collect these days are books and magazines and aches and pains. What do you collect?

I have always enjoyed collecting nice and unique items. I sometimes collect rare and foreign currencies, stamps, 1st edition books, fragrances, magazines, plants and used to collect glassy items.

I forgot about cards! I used to save every card I ever got in the mail, so somewhere in some box are a lot of cards from various people. Email nowadays takes the place of getting cards in the mail, except at Christmas time.

I think email has made my own file of cards from people even more precious. I have thown out very few cards I've received since I was in high school. Letters are even more precious and full of memories. Ah. That's what I collect - memories.

I began collecting costume dolls from different countries 21 years ago. Now I have a whole shelf full of them and I have many because I have traveled so extensively. I have collected many coins and notes from my travels. In addition I have got many postcards from destinations I have visited. I have a small collection of model houses. I got a china one in Hungary and a wooden one in Poland. In addition I have a small collections of colorful crystals. I hope to buy some costume dolls and a crystal on my next trip overseas.

Thanks, I am so very happy with my lovely collection of costume dolls. I began getting the dolls at age 18 years old. Then at age 25 years old I walked past a house in Wales. It had many costume dolls on the window sill. I so wanted to get more dolls and over the years I have got large collection of them.

I used to collect dragons and had a beautiful collection but then came a time when I had to sell most of my treasured possessions. I was unhappy about it but eventually realized that I felt a sense of freedom--I was no longer tied to things, didn't have to worry about moving them, taking care of them, worrying if they would be damaged, etc.
I no longer collect anything. If I want to remember something or I see something I like, I collect it in a room in my mind that I can enjoy later. Without material possessions I am free to think of other things and my house is simpler and uncluttered.

Yes, good point. I am getting to the age where I am tired of all of the accumulated "stuff" that we have from over 30 years in the same house. It's time to get rid of some of it.

I collect Barbie dolls, both vintage and current ones. I'm also into collecting Wonder Woman comic books, and every so often, I'll buy some of the X-men and many other kinds of superhero comics books. I'm also into collecting superhero action figures.

Since I don't want to collect things that people think is trash, And I don't want to collect valuable things either because our place is frequented by typhoons and things get wet easily. So no, I don't want to involve myself into collecting. Besides I usually change places to stay and I can't always bring those collections with me. I have nowhere to leave it except, well, my parents house but I can't too because of typhoons. :)

I have started several collections in my day. My Cousin Edna gave me some coin albums when I was young and for a while I collected coins. But I never cared enough to get serious about coins not easily obtained. Same with stamps. I went through a stamp phase, but didn't really want to invest big money into it, and it kind of fell away. I still can't let go of unusual stamps, though, and still buy and use commemoratives. I just put the interesting ones from my mail in a box so I can give it to someone someday who does collect them.
I did start collecting postcards when I first moved here, and I still have them. I traded some for a while and bought a lot to trade. But since I started writing on line haven't have time for active trading anymore.
If anyone were to walk into my house they would say I collected books. I do collect certain authors, most of Christian nonfiction. My husband collects American history and biography books up through the Civil War period and about WWII. Neither of us cares about the edition. We just collect for content. Most of the books around here, though, are merchandise for sale, not part of the personal collection.
I do currently collect unique teapots and mugs, but within reason. I collect only those people give me or those I find in thrift shops or garage sales. I figure they are useful as well as beautiful.
