i feel sleepy after lunch on weekends. it has been a routine every weekend, after lunch, that i do mylot. but lately, i get this feeling of sleepiness a few minutes after i have started responding and no matter how hard i fight not to fall asleep, i end up a loser because i either fall asleep in front of the computer on my computer chair or i would really need to go to bed and lie down. i am not sure if it is a bad thing happening to me because i am never in a habit of sleeping after lunch or taking a nap in the office during work days. i still dont while am in the office.. but the question is why during weekends and at home? do you think this is some process that old age has to encounter? do you think i need to see a doctor about this to find out whether i am sick or something? ann

My first thoughts are that it is the food you are eating Ann. Are you eating different types of foods or more food for lunch on the weekends that you are not eating during the week? When we eat heavy foods that are hard to digest such as grains and meat, then our body has to put lots more energy towards digesting that food and leaves less for other things. Same goes for if you eat too much. The body has to work harder to get rid of it. Maybe you just need to relax and your body is telling you to have a break. We need to listen to what our body tells us or we will wear it out and get sick.

I used to have the afternoon sleepiness problem. It turned out that I had sleep apnea, and using a cpap machine improved my tiredness situation incredibly. But I have also noticed that a heavy meal in the middle of the day can bring on sleepiness. That is why I thought your reply was excellent. In the old days.... my family would have big sunday roasts. We were always so sleepy after. It still occurs sometimes, big, hot meals for family lunches and I find it harder and harder not to fall asleep after. At work I try to rolls with meat and salad for lunch, the meat only being very light. If I jst have salad, I get too hungry later.

hello bill and jenny, weekends are special because i get to have my daughter and her family visiting me and we have lunch together. after that they stay for some videos or tv or karaoke while i do my lotting. yes, i think now that it is the food. i have simple lunch during weekdays and sometimes a sandwich is fine. but since weekends are special, there always is a dish cooked which is a favorite by everyone. so that means, i need to sleep it out during weekends then? ann

Yep, it is the food for sure. To avoid feeling this way (which is actually harming the digestive system too) try eating less and more often instead of eating one big meal. Instead of going hungry for hours and then stuffing a big meal in, it is far better to stagger smaller meals throughout the day as the digestive system then has the time to deal with it. Not only do you have more energy, but you are possibly saving yourself from problems such as colon cancer and other digestive tract issues. Eating foods that are more easily digested like fresh produce instead of baked foods and meat is also really helpful.

I would say that on the weekends, you do not have to worry about work, you are more relaxed. I also get tired after eating. I used to get that way when I was working also. I used to have to get up from my desk and take a walk, get some coffee, just fight the tired. But at home I never felt the need to fight off the tired. I was home and relaxed. I also found out that I had diabetes and that was one of the causes for me to fall asleep. Now, I control my diet and I do not get tired like that.

hi inertia, i was thinking of diabetes too thats why i was worrying. i guess, i still will go to a doctor to have a check up. although i am not feeling tired at times, i try not to make it a habit to nap after lunch. ann

Well, if you're concerned about diabetes, go get a blood test. Also, being tired is not the only symptom. Being very thirsty is also a sign of diabetes. I think we all get tired, especially as we get older. Maybe eating lighter food will help, I know most people like to eat hearty meals for lunch and that makes you tired.

Oh, you don't need to see a doctor nor is there anything serious. It is just your mindset. Your body and mind knows that you need rest. You work the whole week and without your knowledge your body and mind are ready to rest at least for a couple of days. It is because you know that you are not bound my workplace regulations and you are at ease at your house. It simply means you need to rest your body.

More than likely there is nothing wrong with you except for the fact that you are busier than you used to be and because of that it means that you are tired because you are lacking sleep that you had been accustomed to getting. I know that fatigue can be some kind of a sign that you have something wrong with you, but being that it is only on the weekend, I would think that it is your body trying to catch up from a deprivation of sleep.

Hi Ann, if that's not your habit, and it only happens lately, then I think there is something wrong. Maybe you need a medical check-up and see a doctor. However, if you feel no problem, because only happen on weekends, so just enjoy your weekend to sleep after lunch. We need a better rest on the weekends. Have a nice day. Best wishes,

Yes, this happens to me and has done for a few years. I don't worry too much about it. If I have something that I really must do that needs my concentration though, it does not happen. The mind knows whether or not we have to get things done, such as at work, where sleeping is not permissable and will keep such sleepy feelings away. We don't want to be in trouble with the boss, so there will be an underlying concern about having to stay awake. The mind is a marvellous machine in that we don't have to think about what we need, but it is already there for us. It doesn't always work though! _Derek

hi derek, maybe it's psychological. because i know that nobody is going to mind whatever i do on a weekend so sleep is permitted during daytime. but i prefer to be awake so i guess i need to change my routine. no mylotting at lunch. i can do it earlier though. thank you for your response. ann

Try mylotting after your nap. I don't think you have anything wrong with you. I often get drowsy after lunch too. I think it is because we have a full belly and are relaxed. So our body slows down and makes us sleepy.

Hi Tiger, it is quite usual for me to fall asleep on weekends after lunch. Because usually on weekends, i slept very late at night. So, it is quite common for me to fall asleep since i don't get enough sleep at night. Usually on Friday and Saturday, we tends to watch movie until late at night. So, the very next day, all of us just need to nap after lunch to compensate for the loss sleep. Are you also like to stay up late on Friday and Saturday? If no, then perhaps that maybe you are feeling boring to look to the computer during weekends. It is because you had been watching the computer everyday during your working hours. Try to walk around your house and feel refresh before you finally sit in front of the computer. Maybe through that way, you are able to fully concentrate with your online matters and won't feel sleepy as well. Have a nice weekends...

I get sleepy after eating a large meal and probably drinking milk before sleep. the hard part now a days is that i get to sleep late again because of some onlline games. my mom sleeps early because if she sleep in the afternoon, there's no way she can sleep at night. it depends really, if you exercise or have so many things to do every day there's no doubt you get sleepy because you're drained

Anny dear Again you say you are old? You are 53, definitely young, ask Jose for confirmation In office you remain busy, supervising work of staff, naturally you are not sleepy, during weekends you are free at home, Yeng cooks many items, you overeat, that might be making you sleepy lol

Well, I also get sleepy (period). lol. Yeah, I want to sleep all the time as opposed to you. But I think it is more psychological rather than physical. Yes, if it bothers you that much, i think oyu really need to see a doctor just so you'll know what is going on with you. but I think age is also one reason.

Personally I don't really thinks it is a problem. You can sleep easily during in weekends is because you don't have pressure from works and no colleague looking at you. My mum is facing the same situation, she never sleeps in her office, but when it comes to weekends, she always sleep and she sleeps a lot. So cheerio, I don't think you have any problem and it think it is pretty normal. :)

After eating our body is busy digesting the food we in take and during those busy time, our body becoming at rest and relax. My advice to you is, eat a little meal and keep yourself busy. There are times when we age, our body is becoming relax or lazy, well that would depend on your body system.
