I have seen many recipes for smoothies (so good1) with powdered this and that as part of their ingrewdients. I don´t ever use powders. I cut up frsh fruit, use liquid milk or water, depending on what I want. Probably the nearest I get to powder is when I make something with chocolate.
How do you make your smoothies? Do you prefer them from scratch or do you have several powders or cans to mix? Share!

I usually keep cashews, almonds and walnuts in the house. I may use one of them or a mixture. Many of the frozen fruits i use i did freeze myself too. But the nuts and soy milk together make such a great taste. I like them thick to so my smoothies are almost like icecream. You have to have a really good blender for that. But mmmmmmm how good they are.

In my country, fruit in season is very cheap but frozen fruit is quite expensive. So I don´t even look at the frozen fruit, unless it is the one I have placed in my freezer.

Hi Marg, same like you, i always prefer to make my smoothies and fruit juices by using fresh fruits. I always prefer banana or watermelon as the base juice. It is not only healthy to have fresh fruits but even tastes more delicious as well. I don't really like using those powders to make my smoothies. To stay healthy, using fresh fruits is the best choice. Hope you are doing fine, Sister Marg.

We don´t have them here. The super sometimes imports watermelons. Each is about $20. When in season, a big chilean watermelon (with seeds) costs maybe $3 to $4. And thw person who sells it, opens it, if we want it, with a big knife and makes a triangle to see the inside. If it´s not just as wonderful as we want it, he selects another one.

I love watermelon, but hate to take out the seeds. As for babanas, they are great. And mango and strawberry. Yummy!!!

I almost never make smoothies or similar drinks. The one time I did, I used ice cream and frozen strawberries. It was very good, but I never made it again after that. I guess I should look into making something like that again. I seldom use powders either, but that is because I don't buy them. Happy thanksgiving!!!

I hope things are going better for you now. I'm sure if the ingredients you use are pure you should be ok. Ease into "normal" eating.

Hi Debbie,
I will make a mango and milk smoothie tomorrow. I hope it will not do harm to me. After my viral infection I am much afraid to start eating normally again. I´m drinking milk with no lactose meanwhile.

SCRATCH!!! Big time scratch! Yogurt and fruit is my favourite, though. I can use fruit juices and fruit as well. I find powdered stuff takes so fake...and you can taste the powder in it.

I save fruit as pulp at the freezer when the fruit is in season. Yummy and unexpensive!

Some of the berries you collect could be the very idea
. I can imagine a smoothie out of season with those awesome fruits.

My father was a biochemist and he said that our body need little amounts of protein (the rest is turned into fat ot carbohidrates by our bodies. The important thing is to have enough off the proteins our body needs. That´s why vegetarians have to eat several legumes in the same day. Did you know that2 small dices of meat are enough as protein goes?

I always make my smoothies with milk or water, but after this post, I will check the yogurt idea. It must be real yummy! I just haven´t tried it. Powder, of course, is out of the question for me. I don´t like artificial flavorings at all.

I don’t make smoothies at home anymore because I usually buy them at the juice bar when I go out! The best ones I have ever tasted were in Thailand; they made the best coconut smoothies! It was so great because I loved and enjoyed them and they were relatively good for me at least compared to chocolate milkshakes! Your post has motivated me to have a go at making my own smoothies again…Strawberries…Yummy!

Homemade smoothies are awesome, specially since you can have them everyday if you wish. They are as cheap as any other food you´d have at home. I started making nice food from scratch when I discovered that even a coffee was very expensive, if you go out to have it. So now, I buy my own best colombian and brasilian coffee for special occations and make smoothies at home in Summer, when there are all kinds of unexpensive fruits to choose from.

I love cappuchinos!
. The day I went out with my friend for fabrics for turbans and scarves and to have my new glasses made, I invited her to a cappuchino and got one for me although I´m sure it´s not on my chemo diet list. It did not do me any harm though but was I happy!

Though it isn't something that I do on a regular basis, if I haven't eaten right for a few days and I get a taste for a smoothie, I might throw a little bit of protein powder in with it. However, other than that it is always natural ingredients for me. Strawberries and bananas, yogurt and milk although sometimes I will substitute the milk for orange juice depending on what I am craving at the time.

I drink them depending on what´s in season as fruit goes. If I want to have my vacations every year, I must stay within my budget. I love a mango smoothie, but I can buy a mango once a month maybe.
I am staying within muy budget even now, and plan for my vacations until doctors say othewise.

I am not much of a smoothie maker as I would be the only here who would indulge in them. But I do similar to you as well, where I take fresh fruit and milk in the blender. Nothing really fancy for me as I am more into only Pineapples. Pineapples is also something I am the only one who eats them here, so I tend to freeze them often and can have it readily for a quick treat.

I think the smoothie I love best is mango, but mangos are expensive where I live. Fortunatly, on season. I have lots of unexpensive fruits nearby. Have you tried pineapple, orange smoothie? It´s out of this world. I use only crushed ice instead of water there. It´s the best treat in Summer after gardening.

We make smoothies from time to time if we want something healthy and it's usually fresh fruit like avocado, mango, and from time to time green bananas when available. The nearest we get to using powder is powdered milk when fresh milk is not readily available

When I went to the north of Chile (vacations last year) I drank at least 2 mango smoothies a day!!! They grow mangos there and they are not expensive at all. But where I live, mangos are expensive fruit to eat everyday.

We've been drinking a morning smoothie for many years now. It's full of fresh fruit including one tomato daily. You can't even taste the tomato. We use juice for the liquid, a bit of yogurt, a scoop of ground flax seeds and a scoop of protein powder. That's the only powder we use. There's alot of citrus in our smoothies (lemon, lime, grapefruit) as well as alot of berries.
I love smoothies!!

And they are so easy to make from scratch! The only work you have is to wash the blender
. Fortunatly in my country we have fruits all year around. And I save the pulp at the freezer when it´s on season.

Yes that is true, it is just easy to make one. About the fruits, there is no problem about getting them because we also have them all year round, especially bananas, pineapple, strawberry, oranges, etc. Many to name. I'm greatfull to have this foods at an easy access.

I am not a good cook, and I prefer the easiest way to make smoothies, and other fruit drink though. That is me. If I have decent amount of time to waste, I probably would go from scratch, and start to follow the instruction from the beginning, and I might fail a couple of times, then continue on.

Those are easy to make if you have a blender. You just throw everything in, ice and blend

Well if im going to drink smoothies or juices i prefer using the real ones not the powder ones. Powdered products have chemicals in them that can affect the body. But if there is no possible flavors other than powdered ones like chocolate or vanilla then i have no choice but to use them :)) But still fresh product is better :))

I make chocolate smoothies, but now that I think of it, it is a powedered chocolate, but it´s the real thing. No additives. I don´t much use vanilla, the natural one (very expensive) or the one in a bottle. I prefer to use grated orange and lemon rinds rinds and other similar natural products to add flavour. But I have fruit pulps in my freezer that I save when the fruit is on season.
