I don't necessarily think that video games will make you anti-social. Video games can bring a bunch of mates together as well! Like the Wii consoles or the Eyetoy games, you can play games with your friends and have fun at the same time! For me, I find video games really make me think like those rpg games with puzzles in which you got to use your brain to get out of a room. So games can possibly make you smarter and use your brain, but some games are pretty mindless and pointless so choose your games wisely. Strategy games involve thinking too. It is eating your brain if you play too much day and night and not go outside. I only play in the morning and the rest of the day I do something else like Mylot. So too much is bad but just the right amount is alright.

Well i have seen some people who play games for hours and hardly get out. But I think it depends on who you are.

As far as your downsides go, I was anti-social before I ever started playing video games LOL. I have actually linked up an communicated with more people since I started playing games then I ever would have normally. The only downsides I really see to video games are when people let them overtake their lives. World Of Warcraft is my prime example of that. When you have a game that you pay for monthly and yet you pay someone else even more money so that they will play your campaign for you, which does happen quite often with WOW, then you need to stop playing games period. When parents do watch what and discuss with their children the games they play that can be a problem as well but it is not the games fault it is the individuals fault.

I really do not think that games make you anti-social at all. I guess it stops you from going out with friends when they have nothing important to do but then it is just a choice between doing something fun or not.
If you are playing games just as a habit and not actually having fun then that is where the problem lies. At the same time you can go outside and spend time with friends but then they might not end up being people you will have around forever and you might not get up to anything important.
The only reason going out with people might be better is because you need to learn certain social skills to survive in the world. It is also nice to have something to talk about with people instead of only talking about the games you play.
