Is it best to be tolerant of others?

I think that it is. Tolerance allows us to explore a wide variety of ideas and beliefs without responding emotionally or judgmentally to those that do not correspond with our personal values. We can then integrate into our lives the specific notions that touch us deeply. As a secondary result, we derive a great deal of pleasure from the interactions in which we engage with people from diferent backgrounds. Do you agree?

Well obviously yes, you should. But honestly I think it depends on the person because there are some people who really get on ur neves and under ur skin, aren't there? So, basically just try ur best n if things don't work out n that person just isn't tolerable, then just leave them to live their own life. Hope this helped! ;P

Hi Mirita, That is very true and we can lean so much from others, yet some people seem to be afraid as if they were a threat to us and our way of life. We don't have all the answers and we should have the good sense to recognize that. Also let's give ourselves credit that we are smart enough to know if an idea is good or bad. Thanks you for sharing. Blessings.

Hi Pose: I completely agree with you and actually I think that's the best way one can establish a relationship with someone else. It's quite simple for me. We don't know everything, our values are not the only ones that are respectable and actually when we listen to other points of views we become wiser and we understand why people act in so many different ways. I think tolerance is an important value to make a good communication.

When it comes to different ideas and beliefs we should always try to be tolerant, because we cannot do anything to change it anymore, since it's their belief or culture as the case may be.
However, when it comes to some ways of doing things wrongly, then we should try to suggest what is for the best. When your suggestion is left on deaf ear , then may be we should distance ourselves.

Hi SIMPLYD, You are right, we cannot change another, only ourselves. So if one is not tolerant and friendly towards those who have different cultures, religions and so on, now is the time to change. We can all learn so much. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Blessings.

I think that everyone should be tolerant of one another. I try my best not to ever judge a person because I have been judged many times. Each time it wasn't the truth. Yes, I believe it is better to be tolerant of people because you cannot really know what is in their hearts like God can. So only God should judge and not us.

I think that is it is fine to have your own ideas but at the same time be tolerant to others ideas and beliefs. This is very important with religion because each person thinks he or she is right. I think it is lovely to have friends that have a different background.
Some likes are normal like net ball but I don't like that. I would be friends with a net ball person. I eat a vegan diet and know most people don't. I respect their choice. My 4 year old disabled son is in a wheelchair and the children at his school are tolerant and understanding towards him.

For me it depends. It can be both positive and negative. I understand and agree the positive aspects you've shared. On the other hand, being too tolerant may lead us to being passive and unforgivable. Sometimes I just have to stand out and speak out what I think is right especially if it affects me directly or if it affects a lot of people in general.

I really think that it is best to be tolerant for one simple reason. You're going to really limit the people that you interact and get along with well enough in other wise. There are going to be many things you have in common but there are going to be many ways that you're going to be different. Do I agree with all of the opinions and beliefs of my friends? No, but it is their right to believe what they believe.
Sadly a lot of the times, most of the problems can be drawn right to the fact that there is a lot of tolerance in the world. There are a lot of groups of people who have been at each others throats for years, due to their inability to realize that no everyone has to agree but we have to coexist and respect the beliefs of others. To be tolerant means that you live a more peaceful life and there are a lot less tensions.

I think it is right, we should be tolerant of others. However, I think that there should be a limit to it. Because if we tolerate too much of others, they will then take advantage of it and then we'll be the one at the losing end.
But you are right, we should explore a wide variety of ideas and belief and this will benefit us. Because only in this way, we will then be able to gain more knowledge and we are the one who will benefit from it.
Still, we need to remember that there is a limit where we can be tolerant of other. Not to the extend that they climb over our head.

I agree that it's good to be tolerant with others and try to understand them before judging them, and tolerance should be encouraged because after all it's very interesting to get to know people from different backgrounds and with different values than ours, and those who reject other cultures from the beginning without giving them any chance prove only how narrow-minded they are. I prefer to talk to an individual that might look a little weird and embrace ideas and ways of life that are not exactly compliant to the standards that society tries to impose on us rather than talk to a conservative,one-way thinking person.

Hi polaris, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and we agree. We need to have an open mind, otherwise how do we learn anything. Unfortunately religions, in their attempt to hold on to their followers, brainwash many people into thinking that it's best to have a closed mind. Yet there is much to be learned. Blessings.

If we couldn't tolerate, we would be really bitter and judgmental people like those who still bare racist attitudes and discriminate. That's why we need to learn tolerance, it helps us accept everyone from all walks of life. I have friends who have their own flaws, sometimes they're a little selfish and showy but I just tolerate with them. It's really hard to change a person yourself because only they can change who they are so it's best to put up with their flaws. Sometimes I would get use to it and not let it bother me at all. And your right, as who interact with different people, we learn to enjoy their company and their uniqueness.

Diversity is an essential quality of the nature.Always there will be varieties in all forms in the nature. So tolerance is an important quality of civilization.Varieties in ideas and beliefs bring more facts available to humankind.Thinking otherwise is actually narrow mindedness.

I don't think that tolerance would help us to appreciate other value which is different from ours. Tolerant the thing you don't like is not as equal as respecting them. Tolerance just means delaying the time of exploding. For example, the race problem exists long time in U.S. But why we just take notice in recent years ? Because we tolerate it. Without respecting each other, the problem is always existing. It would not fade out by time rather accumulating and finally explode in one time. Do not try to be tolerant of others next time, you should go and communicate with them for knowing why they would do this. And telling them that is contrast to your value. And if they want your respect, they should respect your value either. Or otherwise, you may never respect them in your mind.

i think it is best if you can tolerate people.. but i believe that as much as we do want that... it is actually a bit impossible to do... like you obviously know there are people who can really get into your nerves.. there are people that even if you do try to understand them, it is just not possible because they are totally unlovable. haha

Hi chiyosan, There have always been people like that and they don't have to be of a different culture either. My thoughts here are about being tolerant of those who are from a different culture etc but who can be quite friendly if we are willing to share our different viewpoints. There are sure to be differences, people of the same family often disagree, so it's best to keep those who get on your nerves, at a distance. Thank you for sharing those thoughts. Blessings.
