riding an airplane

Whenever I have to travel to Manila and on official business , I would always take the airplane. But on personal trips , I seldom take it because its price is more than double than taking the air conditioned bus. I enjoy travelling by airplanes. However, I always get the scare of my life when I ride one, specially when it is to touch down already. As it touches the ground to run so fast on the long runway until it stops, starting as its wheel touches the ground and shakes , I feel so scared because it’s as if it’s going to crash. Other than that, I enjoy riding an airplane so much.

I like travelling by airplane because it gives the impression that you have lots of money. Although people may not realize it that that plane ride is only worth a peso courtesy of cebu pacific's promo . Sadly those promos are hard to come by and if they come by it's either it's already sold out before you can make a reservation or you will have to wait forever, that is waiting for like 3 to 6 months before the actual travel date. My last airplane ride was more more or less 8 years ago but it wasn't a pleasant trip. I was with my eldest and my wife for vacation to my province. The thing is the trip was in september, that time I haven't realized that riding an airplane on the ber months is like a roller coaster ride. My wife whose a first timer swore that she won't ride a plane again after what she'd been through, i on the other hand swore that I won't ride a plane in the ber months if I can avoid it. Just like you I agree that the scariest part is in the take off or landing. Ours was on the landing or should I say the lack of it because due to bad weather our airplane was not able to land at all. In fact we were diverted to cebu to think that we're suppose to land in Cagayan de oro. But that's one heck of an experience.

That time cebu pacific's one peso fair promo was still unheard of so I have to pay regular fees for three of us. That time my eldest was still a year old so I only paid taxes for him. Well, after our flight was diverted to cebu we were given the options to either go back to manila on the same airplane or continue with our travel to our destination however there's no direct flight from cebu to CDO so they offer to give us our boat fair. When my wife called her mother and informed her about our ordeal my mother in law panicked and begged me to returned to manila. She's a bit superstitious and said that it's dangerous to bring an unbaptized child across a body of water. But I just can't turn back because that's actually the main reason why we're going to my province, my child's baptism. I don't really believe superstitions but I guess somehow my mother in law was right. We took the boat ride and arrived at the pier in the morning but the sea is so choppy that the boat can't dock. In fact, it's so choppy that the rope used to hold the boat near the pier broke and caused us to drift away from the pier. So the captain has to look for an alternative dock. The good thing is there's cement factory nearby that has it's own dock. So what's supposed to be a 2 to 3 hour trip took more 34 hours. So I guess, my MIL was right.

Oh, those promos. I haven't tried not even one of their promos. They are always sold out, just when i am to buy it. But i haven't experienced having diverted to another place. So what happens after that ? You go back from where you come from?

Oh my, so you have proven for yourself to be obedient to your MIL. Well, i guess if i am on your shoes i could have flown back to Manila and have our child baptized there instead or maybe go back when the weather is good. Actually, flights are cancelled when it's so rainy. So, i guess when it's rainy, it's also difficult to travel by boat.

When a plane takes off and lands, those moments look scary to me and one feels nervous during those particular moments. However, when it has gained the height and moves smoothly, then one forgets about the take off and landing shocks. I would love to travel in a plane in place of traveling in a train, which takes considerable time to reach to a destination.

I couldn't agree more that the scare is overshadowed the moment we are already high in the sky! Riding a plane may be expensive than any other means, but it gets us to our destination faster and without tiredness.

The only thing I hate about riding on an airplane is when my ears gets covered. Other than that, I don't really get scared about the take off, or the flight on air, or the landing. My mom does gets scared though when she goes on and she holds on to my dad when the plane takes off.

Oh that! Yes, i do find it irritating that my ears will seem gets a bit deaf. But i would just chew on my gum, and in a little while it will be gone. Take offs don't scare me at all though.

I should try and take gum on my next flight. Does it work? I try doing to take it away by myself but it hurts my ears.

Yes, it works, because in chewing the gum, you get your saliva flowing. Actually, just swallowing your saliva, helps in unloading the full feeling of the ears.

I too love riding planes and being in airports. Previous to the job I have right now, my responsibilities included visiting suppliers all over north america. It meant a lot of waiting times in airports and planes. My most favorite part about it is sitting on the lounges. It's very relaxing, and free food everywhere!

Not exactly free. While I was on that job, I was a member of the frequent-flyer club for a particular airline. Which meant free to stay in their lounges, with a lot of free food.

Oh really, your airport offers free food? That's only true here while you are on the flight already. But for short trips , some don't offer free snacks anymore.

Ah, so that explains for the free food. My friends and relatives from abroad are also enjoying that promo. It saves them a lot , when they have to visit Philippines and other destinations.

Funny, in my case, what I dread most is the take off. I hate that feeling! So, I try to sleep immediately upon boarding (some flights get too long before take off). But, unfortunately, most of the time I'm awake. My friend gets a kick out of kidding me each time we take off. But, I always like the landing part. I try to see how well the pilot will land the plane. I've only been in two flights where I did not feel the landing at all. In those two times, it was with Air Philippines (although what I hated was the almost 3 hours delay!)

Complete opposites, I'll say, because I love fast cars! But, yeah, the main reason is for me to see how well the plane lands. Some pilots do not land well. There was a time I felt almost like did we land or did we crash? But, other than that, I love the feeling when the plane comes to a final stop and you know that you've finally arrived!

We are opposite. Maybe i fear the touchdown most, because it gets to run so fast on the runway, that i would be holding well on the arm of my chair . I guess, i always have a fear of transportation means going on so fast.
• Philippines
4 Oct 11
I don't feel comfortable when it starts to run so fast along the runway because it's just irritating to the ears. The pressure is so high that I have to cover them. It also sometimes makes me feel a little dizzy. But it's also nice especially when you get to sit the seat near the window. You get to view the whole place from above.
@SIMPLYD (90721)

Yes, as it runs so fast in the runway, you will really feel uncomfortable. It's as if it will suddenly crash. But when it's already high up flying, it's already an enjoyable travel.

It sure is enjoyable when you're already up there. You can really see the city from up above. Another plus factor when riding an airplane is they'll be serving you food. haha :D

I like riding an airplane too. Yes it is a bit scary at take off and landing. I haven't been in an airplane while the weather is bad. I just experienced some turbulence but nothing really alarming and seems like life threatening. What I like most about airplanes is the short time you will spend on trips. Yes it is the most expensive means of travel compared to buses and ships. I'm just glad that there are lots of airbuses and airlines can afford seat sales once in a while.

It's really the convenience of riding in an airplane, primarily the short travel time that we are after of. Like you, i haven't traveled in an airplane , in a bad weather. And i will never ride if there is a bad weather coming.

My favorite way to travel is by train but it doesn't go everywhere. A plane is the one that goes where I want to go across the ocean to another continent. I like how fast it travels and the convenience. I wear a small plastic device in my ears called ear planes. These stop my ears hurting during descent and landing. My first trip by was London to Athens 3 and a half hours when I was 14 years old. My last trip was when I was 39 years old and I flew from Cartagena De Indias to London via Bogota and Madrid. It was a trip of more than 20 hours so it was long and tiring. The roar of landing is very exciting. I can feel that power as the plane races along the runway. Then when it stops I know I have reached my destination safely.

So, you have reached very far destinations and travelling 20 hours. You are a well travelled person. Me, the longest is 45 minutes , from our place to Manila. But when we were younger we always travel by plane too , from Manila to Cebu then to Mindanao. I don't know how many hours is that. All i remember is that we get to roam Mactan airport, then in a little while be bound to Mindanao already. Though, my scare in the touch down will always be with me, i guess. Trains are fast too, and i like it .

All Aboard - Airplane passengers
I actually fear riding an airplane. It is as though that would be the end of my life if I ride one. I know that it is not true but I can't really get over that fear. Because of that I can't really enjoy riding an airplane. I would rather just travel by land which unfortunately is not always possible in all kinds of trips so this really limits my traveling routes.

My friend, you should try riding an airplane, so you can tell for yourself if you will ride it again the next time. Actually, i like riding the plane when i travel. It's the touchdown that really scares me a lot. But i still can manage may fear.

For me not easy way to step on your life by it but if you think it is the only way you find more easy to your business you would be riding in it.

Actually, riding an airplane depends on the urgency of your travel. If it is a business trip and would be paid by the company, then, why not take it? However, if it is a personal travel, then it depends on your budget, if you can afford it.

I am very seldom on the traveling. But, I don't know that I do not too enjoy traveling by airplane. If possible, I prefer to travel by train. It is not about the matter of cost, but again I don't know I don't like fly on the air.

I think you are just afraid of traveling by plane. Me, had i always have lots of extra money, i would always want yo travel by plane because it's faster and so time saving. You won't feel tired traveling at all.

There are so many companies that it's hard to say flying is still very expensive. Especially if you are able to plan in forward it's possible to fly for way less as taking the own car. I wonder how you can like flying if you are afraid you will crash. I also wonder how that idea came into your head. You also never take the car, bus or train? There are way more accidents happening if you take them as when you use the airplane. Not to forget to mention that most accidents are still happening in your (people's) own home.

The scare is overshadowed by the enjoyment i get when the plane is already high on the sky. But like i said, i only take it on official travels, because i don't have to spend for it. Ordinary travels or vacations would just be through air conditioned buses. Those promos they have are really good. It's just that you must be so fast in getting them because they are on very limited seats and plan ahead of your vacation.

Honestly, I haven't tried riding an airplane yet in my entire life. It also means that I haven't gone to any far place at all. I have longed to take an airplane someday when I will be fortunate enough to go on a trip. But I don't know when. It seems it's too hard for me to allocate some budget for that matter since it's a bit expensive. I hope someday I can.

Well, maybe you can start saving for it now. A little amount every payday would sum up to a big amount someday. Don't worry, you will be able to ride an airplane someday. Just make it as one of your goal, to motivate you.

I enjoy travelling through airplanes, and as far as getting scared of your life, well let me tell you one thing, All man made thing are dangerous to man but at the same time they are beneficial too. A car or plane, our life is always at risk, but yet these are necessities for travel.

Yes, those transportation means have their own risks. But nothing scared me much as that touchdown of a plane to start running so fast on the runway until it stops. I guess, you don't find the touchdown scary at all, because after all you are a man, and men are not easily afraid of anything.

Hmmmm.. in my age today i didn't experience yet to ride in airplane, slightly afraid but i want to experience it too. like riding in big feerys well in Enchanted kingdom and Star City there's a lot of exciting riding out there that you can afraid of to ride, but also experience is the best memorable if you can try to ride. in airplane only my brother was experience to ride in airplane when he was work abroad in quatar. so now i am contented in riding in a aircon bus. but also im hoping that someday i will one of the passenger of Airplane. : )

You should try to experience riding a plane because it's so different from riding those ferris wheels and the like. It is an enjoyable one, because you get to see the clouds and just as it ascends , the view of the place where you come from and when it descends , the view of the place you are to go to. At night, it's so nice to see the lights of those houses and streets. Besides, you won't get tired because for short distance trips , it would just takes at least 45 minutes, and you are there. And the experience of the take off and touch down are something worth experiencing. Experience for yourself how you feel about it.
