Is physical appearance important to find out what a person's personality is?

Ladies and Gentlemen! What can you say about this?Do you think it's the physical appearance that really defines a person's personality or do you still see the inner beauty of a person?..
I have observed that nowadays people would judge the real you by the way you look.I think that Media has a very big influence when it comes to that matter. Why?Because we somewhat see Media as our reflection to the real world. The Web,I think is the most influential media, here we see pictures of beautiful women, their bodies carved perfectly like goddesses and with that we define them as beautiful without even knowing the real personality of that person..
I have seen many cases wherein the beautiful people are perceived as the good ones while those who are not gifted with physical beauty are being discriminated, bullied and being laugh at.Why are we so rude? Are we really that capable of bringing down someone just to satisfy our stupidity.I think that instead we bring down people,we should give them encouragement to uplift their selves and eventually their lives..=D

A very beautiful lady is considered to be all brains and to have little intelligence. She is thought of as having a lovely personality. However like a book: never judge a book by is cover. Something similar could be said about a person. When I was at university there was an awful looking girl and what she looked like shocked people. Funnily enough I got to know her on one of my teaching practices. She was very clever, ever so kind, very thoughtful and had a charming personality. Most people look ordinary and each has a different personality. I went to a gym today and the people in their surprised. There were all sorts of people: young, middle aged and old. Some were thin and others were fat. In the future I hope to get to know many of these people and find out their personalities.

Physical appearance and the personality of a person are 2 different things. A person who looks gd on the outside need not necessarily 'look gd' on the inside. A person who has a great personality need not necessarily look great physically.
It's sad that people tend to judge others by the way they look, as if looks are all that really matter. Oh btw, welcome to mylot!:)

To me, physical appearance is also a factor in judging the character of a person. A sloppy appearance would initially mean to me that the person doesn't care much in his/her appearance, while a neat appearance would mean to,o that the person knows how it is to appear good . A person doesn't have to look good, but just neat, that's what important to me in outward appearance.
After that initial judgment, i would now get to know her/him to see her/his inner self . But then, it will take time before you can truly know their inner selves.

For me, i don't mind at all even if a person is not good looking or even ugly. What is important is that he is neat looking. In addition , he must know good manners.

Well,I got your point..But I think we are not on the same track.I know that it is not also appetizing to see sloppy appearance. But mind you, there are people who still judge a person who is neat but doesn't have the looks. They are just plain stupid.=D

well what to say on this.... both have their own respective positions, some people like the physical appearance and for others the inner beauty is most important then the outer body... everybody want a friend/companion who looks smart have great physique but inner feeling inner beauty behaviour matters a lot..

No, I don't think physical appearance should define a person. I believe that you are right. I think that alot of us do let the meida influenes the way we look at at other people. You have heard the old saying,"you can't judge a book by the cover." Well I think that saying is right on.Just because a persoson looks great on the out side dose'nt mean that it is the same on the inside.A great personality, can make person beauityful. Those people who are makeing fun of others because of the the way that someone looks,is more then likely trying cover up thire own insecurity's. They Should have some compassion for others. People need realize that what they say and do has an effect on others.

I agree with your observation darling. I could say that Physical appearance has a factor big or small depending on how other people perceived your personality will be basing on your outer self. But, I was starstruck with this saying that "People can only see what they are capable of seeing, not on who you actually are". You maybe ugly looking or the reverse one but take note the appearance will not define your future and destiny, it will just give some twist and extra challenging on how you will bring up yourself to one you wanted to be.

Hi, you are to some extent correct. But even bad looking people are well appreciated -- such examples are there. It is, as you rightly say, stupidity of people. But superstitions were always with people, and will remain with them. To some extent, mythological stories are responsible for that. Such stories are heard by almost everyone in infancy, and that leads to such ideas, which are later expressed through the discriminating ideas. Media effect is not all. If I am stubborn with my thought, how can an external stimulant, such as media, influence me?

Really not all of the time. I mean that their are some pretty physically attractive people out there that their are utter scumbags. Some that are nice as well. Then there are many people who are not appeasing on the eyes, whether in dress sense or looks that are petty nice and helpful. How someone looks is rather not a good indicator of how they are.
Of course while some first impressions are spot on, there are many times where first impressions are rather far off of the mark to say the very least. There are going to be a lot of times where people tend to give off a certain aura, because they are guarded for reasons of their own. Or because they want to suck people in to use them. There are many different variables to say the very least.

For me, physical appearance is the main reason that gets my attention. Therefore, for me, before I learn to know the person's personality is, appearance first is the basis that drives me to want to know what the personality of that person is. But then even though the looks are good but personality wise is bad, its a big turn off for me.

Hello april_dawn!
I agree with you. The very first thing that we see in a person is his or her physical attributes. I even admire a guy who looks so handsome even if I don't know him at all. That's the initial reaction that I could do. However, I don't just stop there. I still try to look the inner part of a person. For me, the goodness of the heart is still the best indicator of a person's true beauty. Finding out a person's personality doesn't take place in a snap. We need to get to know him or her first by way of friendship. We never know, the girl or guy who look so angelic might be rude inside and the person whom we see as ugly and handicapped is the one who possess a very pleasing personality because of his gentle heart.

It's a factor but not the most important one ! I can speak for myself that my first impression comes from the physical appearance. His style speaks for himself, then when you have 2-3 minute talk to each other, then you really understand what kind of person is standing in front of you !

actually, beauty is just a skin.so to judge a person by his appearance is not right.Beauty is not just the physical but the inner spirit.

Yes the media does have a big influence on looks, but I think it all depends on the person. I know that a person is initially attracted to someone based on the way they look, but I am the type of person that like to judge based upon the inner beauty
