The Manager at Wendy's Drove Me to McDonald's!

The manager at Wendy's today drove me to McDonalds - not literally, of course! His poor attitude caused me to leave Wendy's and head straight to McDonald's for lunch. Alright, let me start from the beginning. I had a dental appointment, which did not go well. I had to wait 45 minutes to see the dentist and discovered I have a minor infection so the work could not be done. Thankfully, the dentist did not charge me for the visit. He gave me a prescription to take for a week and told me to eat then take my first pill. I did not eat before going to the dentist because I did not want to get nauseous. My stomach was rumbling so I went right down the block to Wendy's. All I had was a $50 bill as that was the money that would have been paid to the dentist. I ordered my usual burger and value sugar-free iced coffee and could almost taste it. I pull up to the payment window and the cashier goes to check my bill. The bill had come right from the bank located in the same shopping plaza, so I know it was legitimate. After waiting for awhile as the line built up behind me, a rude and geeky man came to the window and said he was the manager. He told me their machine did not accept the bill and I would need to find another form of payment. I asked what that meant. He said it probably got wet. I told him that was impossible as the bill just came from the bank in the shopping plaza. He refused to accept the bill so I refused to eat there. I drove away and went right down the block to McDonald's, where they cheerfully accepted my bill (they checked it, too, and it was fine) and served me a yummy burger. I am thinking of reporting this manager to Wendy's corporate. He was impolite and did not apologize or try to be helpful. I go to this Wendy's often, so it's not like I'm a stranger and I certainly don't resemble a criminal. Would you report this to Wendy's?

Sounds like something their customer service people might want to hear about..after all,you did present a form of payment the competition had no problem in accepting, and that (and their attitude!) lost Wendy's a sale..Also,You'd be a regular there, and nobody recognised You?

I love the food at Wendy's and it upset me they would not accept my payment (and were rude about it, too). When I went to McDonald's, everything went as it should (though I didn't enjoy the burger quite as much). I don't know the "day crew" at Wendy's and they were different from the folks I see at night (who are nice and efficient). I think I will share my experience with customer service.

Yes this manager needs to be reported. I worked many customer related industry jobs. We were always told "the customer is always right" I remember when a man went through Drive thru of our Mcdonalds. The person that did drive thru present gave him a Strawberry Milkshake instead of whatever his drink was supposed to be. he drove around come in and since I was on front counter, I said Can I help you sir? He said Yes is the manager here? I said yes sir just a minute When Jack our Manager on duty come around and I took over the grill he immediately asked what he could do for the gentleman. Instead of the man explaining his problem and getting the assistance he could have had, he took the lid off his strawberry shake and threw it all over Jack's white dress shirt and tie. Then the man said, NOW get my order right in drive thru. So what I am saying is it works both ways. Customers and People working in the customer service industry has to remember we are all human. We were seldom able to take a 50.00 bill because money was always taken out of the register on hourly basis in case of robberies etc and once put in the safe it could not be opened. But if this was the case of this manager he did not know how to handle the situation. I am sure he had more grumpy people in drive thru after you went through the line. Let them know how you are treated. Ask for the District manager for that area. She or He will be taking care of your problems and looking into keeping their area customer friendly.

I have also worked in customer related jobs and that was what surprised me. The customer is always right, especially when they are being polite and reasonable. The fellow who threw a strawberry shake sounds like he was taking everything out in his life on that manager, who was only trying to be helpful. Definitely he over-reacted (and it could have even been considered assault) - I can't count how many times I got the wrong thing or had missing items - most of the time, I don't even mention it. I figure people aren't perfect and I would want someone to give me a break. What upset me is the person was a manager. The staff is typically overworked and underpaid so I give them the benefit of the doubt. My friend manages a McDonald's, so I know they get paid well and have decent benefits (especially by today's standards). He was rude, inefficient and did not even try to be helpful - I can only imagine how he treats the staff. If it was an issue of not accepting such a bill, that was all he needed to say. Trying to make it sound like I was giving him "bad" bill was insulting, especially when it came from the bank next door and it cleared at McD's. Someone like that in charge makes it unpleasant for everyone. I think I will report it to the district manager, that is a good idea. Thanks!

I am not the type to believe "The customer is always right" attitude, but if they are a nice person, I will do what I can to help them without giving the person the store. I have seen rude customers as well as managers and other staff. I worked for Walgreens for 8 years with only 1 complaint that was fabricated which I had many witnesses that could back me up. I was by far the best assistant manager out of all the stores I worked at with customer service and dealing with employees. I've only had to deal with two rude employees that worked under me, but they were never rude again on my shift after I talked to them. I have had many pissed off customers, usually because we didn't have a product, or they were trying to cheat the system and I wouldn't let them. Luckly I can say I've never had a milkshake or anything else thrown at me or my employees. The customer with the milk shake could be arrested for assault. I got injured working for Walgreens due to defective equipment, after the surgery, they tried many ways to get me to quit. When that didn't happen, they fired me for working too slow. I was injured and I was ordered to do things that I wasn't allowed to do. Mamasaid- I generally just take the wrong product if its food unless its something I defintely can't eat or they mess up my wifes order. I have only complained to the server once, and it was my honey moon 12 years ago. The waitress showed up, took our order and disappeared until an hour later when she gave us our bill. Instead of giving her a tip, I left her a message saying "Next time you want a tip, earn it". I've gotten mad about ordering from a fast food place and that was when I went to taco bell and they had a five dollar box meal. It was the Volcano box so was really spicy and I love spicey but can't eat it. I asked the cashier if they could leave off the sause and she said "I can't do that, we don't have a button to remove it". I wanted to just say turn around and just tell the person making the food to leave it off. Instead I just dealt with it out of frustration. Marie2052- I can't believe it took 3 years for the company to realize they have an extremely high turnover rate at that store. I believe that all managers should have to take a required course on how to handle staff. While the manager could be making a good profit, she is also loosing profit because of all the training that would be required to train the staff. Not to mention, if the company pays for the shirts that the employee wears, that is even more money.

We had a very bad General Manager that ran our McDonalds store in Missouri. She was good with figures and making money for the company but when it came to being a people person, she left those skills at the dumpster each morning! I was the crew trainer which meant I had to know every postion, to train others as they came to the store to work. So naturally our crew felt I was the one to talk to when they had a complaint about the manager. Finally the district manager came in one day, and I told her the store was going to fold because of the way the GM was treating the workers. so we set up an appt for the next week the district manager was there and I told all the workers one by one that if they did not step up and discuss this with her that I did not want to hear another bad thing said about our GM. Well needless to say, once the District Manager looked into the files, we had lost over 100 well trained managers and 300 employees in a 3 year period. You don't train people without it costing the company. They showed up about 2 weeks later, took her store keys, her company car (first time I ever knew you could get a company car from McD's) The lady had worked for the company for 14 years. But she was making everyone miserable when she was there. When she was not on duty the store was run like a well oiled ship.

I'm sorry you had such a bad day. Unfortunately the manager handled the whole issue wrong. I have worked customer service type jobs for 10 years now. I'd be ashamed if that was my employee. He could have used a different approach then make it sound like you handed him fake money. I have used both the marker and the box, and never have I heard the excuse "maybe the bill got wet". If the bill got wet, we wouldn't be able to use a lot of money. People wash their money by accident and sometimes on purpose. Sometimes the money is in your front pocket and gets sweaty. I could go on. Long story short, he was wrong in more then one way.
