Smartphones are just the same as computers. They have a cpu, ram, screen, operating system, etc. But I think their screen are too small to replace computers or laptops.Cellphones are designed to fit in a pocket. The screen size of smartphones is not very ideal for making presentations or documents.I guess it is better to think that tablet pcs will replace our desktops or laptops.Tablet pcs have bigger screen than smart phones, which is more ideal for making documents and presentations.

I guess attaching a keyboard and a bigger screen to a phone is just a waste of time and money.I would rather buy a tablet pc...

Replace.. that is too hypothetical. Both are meant to serve different purpose. I agree smart phones are getting better and better these days. I can't work on a small screen for all day. So the day i feel that i can replace my CPU with smart phone, i am sure that i will have a super power computer available for the price. More storage too is a requirement for me. So one replacing another is not going to happen anyways. As experts say don't compare apples and oranges. :-)

My eyes cannot see the numbers and letters of mobile phones so I just use them as phones when I´m not at home. As for computers, I like a good, big one, with a nice screen the size of a TV set. For me, there´s no replacemnt there.

I don't know, but somehow we still need the bigger and larger screen, the one that cell phone/mobile phone/smart phone can't give to us
And also, for mobile phones, in order to replace computer in computing, word processing, image processing, and another high-technology activities; they need a great technology of small and really-durable batteries. And also, they have to be able to produce that high-tech battery with low cost.
As far as I see now, we haven't reached that technology yet. High computing activity still need electric power as power sources.

Yeah, they came with really much great features .
But, still, like you said above, computing power of mobile is lesser.
If we are going to improve the computing power, we need to improve the battery power once again :). Let see what will happen in the future

So, you have a large network hard-drive in your house, a fast processor, a large telly screen or projector, a smart phone and a wireless keyboard. When out of the house you use your smart-phone but inside your wireless keyboard controls everything; accessing all that is stored in both your phone and your network hard-drive and displaying it on your telly-screen.
I am not far of this at home now
all the best urban

I think computers will get smaller and both the device will merge, like we have seen an i-pad. Technology is changing so rapidly that anything could happen.

That is a good question. I do not think so becase labtops and desktops have some things such a disk drive and and larger hard drives that can hold more info. the smaller cell and smart phones are good for some things but have dissaantages such as a small screen. I do not care to watch movies on a small screen. so I can not see mobile phones replaceing computers any time soon.

I don't think so. Because although mobile phones are convenient to use, still it is more comfortable when you work in your personal computer. I also disagree with it because I do not have a mobile phone that could browse the internet. It's because I exclusively use my phone for texting only.

I sure hope not I can't read in the darn things LOL
Nowadays most cellphones are ... computers- if with some limitations-. And I can understand the appeal to most people, but I don't think they will be able to completely replace a desktop or laptop because people don't want or can't be looking at the small screen of a cell phone, no matter what.Plus for some specific tasks a cellphone won't do, and to appreciate some of the beautiful things we really need to see them in a bigger screen. I suppose they will probably go hand to hand, but not replacing each other.

I do video editing, and for that, I need a powerful computer. At some point in time, computers will be so powerful, that I can do everything, and render instantly, on something the size of a smart phone... however, it would not have the size I need, to see the whole image very clearly (because, the bigger the screen, the better it is) and it would be very difficult to do the precision work I need to do with something that small. If I need to get something exact, it's much easier with a large screen and mouse.

I prefer a nice big screen to work on in the confines of my comfy home. I also feel the effect of music through those speakers attached to computers are far better than what one experiences with cell phones. I never opted for those Ipods or whatever for the same reason.

I've heard that there is something out that they created a few years ago..I cannot remember the name.. Oh yeah a Tablet.
Mobile phones will never replace computers because you will always be able to pack a lot more in a tower then you will a small phone.
Screen size is a big issue and the fact that people love using a mouse and keyboard for games.
Even though they are putting small computers in phones, smart phones, one thing will always be a problem. The screen size. Technology is getting better but people's eyesight is not. Many people stay away from tablets and netbooks because the screens are too small.
People will always use computers. If the size of the computer shrinks people will still want to use methods that they are familiar with to operate them. Eg.Keyboard and mouse. People will always want to have a big screen so that they can see what they are doing.
One way that mobile phones are going to take over a lot of use of the computer is certain types of social networking such as facebook and instant messaging as well as video chat.

Hello Ganesh. Perhaps less people will buy computers and use their smartphones instead. However, I don't think mobile phones can entirely replace computers. Even tablets won't be able to replace them completely. A person needs a dedicated keyboard and bigger screen to work. Encoding in a database is impossible using mobiles phones. Even a blogger needs at least a laptop to meet his/her needs. Likewise, hardcore gamers need a dedicated laptop/computer to meet their gaming needs. Smartphones are clever devices. They make sending email and social networking very convenient. Information is literally just at our fingertips with these devices. However, a touchscreen keypad and a small screen will never be enough. In the future, more users will own a smartphone and tablet to carry around. Yet, these same users will still have a laptop or computer in their home and office.
