After dragging out the wondering and speculation for months, Sarah Palin has finally said that she will not run for President in 2012. So what good did it do for her to drag things out to this point, keeping her supporters hoping that she would run? How much damage did she do to the GOP field by doing so? And what did she have to gain by waiting until this late date to decide not to run? Here are the links to the related articles: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/10/05/breaking-sarah-palin-will-not-run-for-president/?hpt=po_t2 http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/10/05/palins-full-statement-on-2012-decision/?hpt=po_t2 http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/10/05/palin-opts-against-2012-presidential-run/ http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/10/05/sarah-palin-announces-will-not-seek-gop-2012-nomination/ What are your thoughts on the effects and reasons behind this?

Actually, Sarah Palin never once said that she was even contemplating running and said several times that she was not. No one seemed to believe her, though. I wonder what it took for them to accept her decision? (rhetorical question)

Yeah, we may never know what kind of deal she's been working on, but that's the way it goes. I don't think she's doing anything just for attention, either. Those who seem to hate her with a passion give her plenty of attention. I agree about other politicians doing more running of the mouth without saying anything intelligible, too.

True and I think a lot of the left wingers just like to whine about nothing. Who knows, she may have already made a deal to be someone's running mate for VP. Just sayin'.... As for the remark about her doing it all for attention, I don't think that is the case at all. I can think of other politicians that do a lot more running the mouth and saying nothing or "umm," "uhh" an awful lot.

Peavey, While I agree that she said numerous times that she wouldn't run, in some ways it did seem like she was thinking about doing just that. Consider her bus tours to the key voting states, rallying voters behind her, etc. Her actions are what caused the stir and doubt, at least in my opinion. As far as not doing it for attention, maybe not, but she did take a lot of the media attention away from the actual candidates. She also managed to keep her name in the primary even without actually saying she would run. Many of the Tea Party groups support her 100% and wanted desperately for her to run. Again, taking some of the support away from the current contenders for the nomination, and possibly giving false poll results as well, as many of the undecided were probably waiting to see if she would actually run. I could be wrong, but that is sort of the way it came across to me.

It did exactly what she desires most in life: Attention!!! She loves the attention that she gets by keeping people wondering, and you can tell she loves people wanting her to run. Just because she said that she isn't going to run doesn't meant that she isn't going to run. It won't be the first time she said she wouldn't run, and it won't be the last. If she didn't threaten to run for president what good would she be?

So true! On the other hand, I don't think it did much good for the current field of GOP candidates. It took both the media's attention and the voters attention away from them. It really just shows how selfish she really is and how much of a ham!

I agree it didn't do much if anything to help the GOP, but that isn't what she cares about. I think the only thing she cares about is herself, and I feel for the people that support her.

I'm glad she decided not to run. It would have been a waste of her time. Let her be a celebrity and let the serious folks run for president,IMO.

I am glad she decided not to also, but I am not as sure that it would have been a waste of time. Consider how often she is mentioned in the political and election news. Consider how much support she has from most of the Tea Party groups. It is quite possible that she might have actually been able to pull it off and get the nomination....not that I think it would be a good thing if she did, just saying. I think she is far to flighty to be a solid Presidential candidate, and I don't see how she would have been able to stand up against Obama and even have a snowball's chance of winning! Plus we would have been much worse off with her, I think.

Did anyone really think she would run? Not surprised really. Just like I am not surprised by Christie not running. None of the signs that she was running were there.

Really and truly, where Palin is concerned....who actually had a clue WHAT she would really do? I mean I don't even think she knew. Like Debater said, she was simply after the attention and taking it away from the ones that were actually running. All I can say, is thank goodness she did decide NOT to run!

She wasn't running that was clear. The only people who were actually pushing the idea were Palin supporters. She never said she was running but like Christie there were a lot of people who said she should or might run.
