Finding low cost alternatives for dance costumes

When I owned a dance school, and before that, worked for a huge one in NYC, we ordered the bulk of our costumes, for our dance students, from costume companies. The parents paid for them and they kept them when the show was over. Now I am working for a school that gives classes to poor students and buys the costumes to let them use, but does not have a huge budget. They want to keep them in stock and not make them buy the costumes. Do you have any advice? It is for kids, ages 3 through adult. Thanks.

Unfortunately if someone wants to keep the costume, they will. You could give them the option to buy the costume in order to take it home, or keep it at the school if they are not paying. You could even set up a payment plan. Other than that I can't think of anything else to do. But good luck and hopefully people will be honest in leaving the costumes.

Well, we do not want to give them the option, just rent, because we want to build up stock. This way, they pay a few dollars, so we can keep them in repair, and once they are too outdated, they we can just give them away. Instead of people spending $50 or more, for a costume, for each dance, rental for $10 is more affordable.
