Christians and Halloween?

Counter-top Cemetery - Many pieces here were crafted by me. It was fun making the tombs, painting and glue pieces together. I bought the characters though.

Well, I did it. I went ahead and decorated my house a little for Halloween. I didn't go all out and use all the decorations I own, but I did use some of my favorite decorations this year. I set up my counter-top cemetery and Halloween tree, plus I put out Halloween ceramics, candles and miniature tombstones and gargoyles. No devils nor demons, but several funny-looking skeletons were used. I have read recently about how Christians should not observe this holiday with detailed explanations of how it all goes back to satanic ritual, devil worshiping and wiccan or pagan traditions. If I were any of those people today, I would be very upset over the way their customs have been watered down with mockery, ignorance and childishness. After reading some of these articles written by well-meaning Christians. Yes, it's good to know where some of these customs come from, but I have come to the conclusion that if I am NOT continuing the customs in the same way, with reverence and seriousness, like the pagans did and still do, I see nothing wrong with participating in Halloween practices of giving out candy, dressing up in costumes and having a good time in the name of "having a good time." What do you think? Are you a Christian who likes to participate in Halloween festivities and decorating? Do you give out candy to kids?

The power of the devil, he will do all he can just for the people to celebrate him at any means, Satan is truly a king of lies... i just can't imagine what are the results in the future.... and to do good is a hard thing to do, and many contradicts.... but to do bad is for the people to celebrate... can it be change the way to celebrate Halloween by just wearing all good stuffs and not those of evil? why wearing evil? it is right to wear evil? the more the bloody and scary the more they appreciate?

I agree, if it really worries you that you might be doing something unChristian or offensive to God, change what you wear or do while you participate at an event or party. Dress as someone with a positive image or a harmless one. Halloween is a time we all enjoy having fun getting scared and scaring others. Why? Because it's fun! How you want to enjoy this holiday is up to you. Be creative, but do no harm.

For the past 5 years I have participated in the tradition of Halloween by wearing costumes at work. Before that I belonged to a religion which also prohibited it's members from having to do anything with Halloween because of its pagan origins. We were not even supposed to eat Halloween candy if anyone gave us some. So, when I started participating in Halloween activities at work, I saw that it was only a time for having fun. It's nice to dress up every once in a while. The company give us lots of candy and it's nice to feel like a kid. I don't see it as satanic or whatever, it's just a fun thing to do. It doesn't affect my faith or beliefs.

EXACTLY!! It's fun to dress up. It reminds me of my childhood and pretending to be someone else for a short while. That's why people enjoy masquerade parties also. It's fun to dress up and party. Just because the origins of a holiday were evil and wrong is not reason to pull away from those evil origins and turn it around into something very positive and good. Halloween can now be a time of friendship, fun and family events. It no longer needs to have ANYTHING to do with satan worship or devil worship. It can be good, clean and fun, and I don't see how God can have any problem with that.

The idea of 'Happy' Halloween itself is a joke. Well, to me, giving out candies to children, I see nothing wrong with that. But I would not dress up in ghosts. costumes I prefer Patrick Star costume LoL because it means nothing ^^ . And of course, I wouldn't bother to be joining horror story stuffs. I think there is more to it that makes Christians should not celebrate Halloween, like why I should celebrate Halloween anyway? Isn't there another way? Why Halloween? But indeed, we can't always make a logical explanation about God's way. If we read in the Bible, Numbers 20:6-12, Moses didn't lead Israel to the promised land because he struck the stone instead talked to it just as God said. Irrational? Yes.

True, and that's why some Christians downplay the Halloween holiday even further by calling similar parties during that time with "Harvest Festivals" or "Fall Faires" instead. They still dress up and still give out candy and just drop the word Halloween completely.

I do too. I agree with you. Where does it end? Some Christians don't celebrate Christmas and birthdays. As Christians, we are and should enjoy our lives as long as we remember we are followers of Christ and should act as such. In a world filled with so much pain and sorrow, events like parties and holidays should be enjoyed if it harms no one and are done in good taste. God wants us to enjoy our lives and I don't see how doing something like dressing up and getting candy once a year can do any harm. This is why I decide to enjoy the event and decorate, especially because I like to do crafts.

No I don't participate, when my children were small Halloween wasn't such a big event so we did not get involved as a family. I am Christian and I know the routes and quite honestly I don't see the point of Halloween.

I haven't celebrated Halloween in many years. I do believe this is Satan's holiday and being a Christian I do not participate.
