Herbert Chavez - Herbert Chavez as Superman

A Filipino, Herbert Chavez has undergone cosmetic surgeries in various parts of his face and body just to look like his idol, Superman! I have never seen a fan who went this far just to be like their idols. I was really shocked. I saw his old photo and he really looked a lot different than how he looks now. Chavez had surgeries in his nose, cheeks, lips and chin and even in his thigh (!) just to look like the Man of Steel! He even wears a blue contact lens and when he's not in his Superman costume, he wears a pair of reading glasses to look like Clark Kent. Wow. It's amazing but it's shocking at the same time. Here's the link for the news: http://ph.news.yahoo.com/photos/pinoy-superman--1318418953-slideshow/combination-photo-shows-herbert-chavez-cosmetic-transformation-look-photo-101035296.html What do you think?

I have seen his pictures in facebook. I can say that his face looks like 'Brandon Routh' Superman. I suggest that he workout more to look more muscular because his body looks small. Also, Brandon Routh is no longer Superman. The new Superman is now Henry Cavill with an upcoming movie 'Man of Steel'.

I beg to disagree! He does not look like Brandon Routh! And I don't think he's trying to look like Brandon Routh, I think he's trying to look like more of the original actor who played as Superman (forgot his name).

Well, whatever makes you happy XD He DOES look better after the surgery :P Actually, I really don't mind much about people having surgeries but doing it to change into someone else is a bit... Um... Extreme? Well, I think he'll be more confident than before but by doing that, doesn't it also mean he lost a part of his self? I mean, he's trying to be somebody he's not so it's like throwing away a bit of his individuality :P It's my own 2-cent though :D If he's happy then that's great :D The cosmetic surgeons did one heck of a good job!

Maybe he just lost his face but didn't lose his individuality since his love for Superman is what makes a large part of his individuality. *nosebleed* I'm not sure if I will agree with you when you said he looks better after the surgeries. I find it a little weird and maybe a little scary, one touch and his face might just broke, that kind of scary.

Hi Secretbear, Thank you for sharing this news and photos about the die hard fanatic. He is really a die hard fanatic and just imagine spending lots of money just to be a look a like of superman but its worth it. Just imagine having the fame, his photos and face are at yahoo now, and who knows he would be as popular as the man of steel. It's his choice, if he has the money to do those things, why not anyway, it is his life and he can only live it once so he might as well enjoy it.

If the hero of the news was a westerner, i may not be so shocked. In my mind, westerners are those who live their own life. I never expect an Asian can be so fasinated to his idol. I don't have any comments on Herbert Chavez. He just loves his idol too much. Maybe i merely regard it as an interesting news on a tabloid. I read it,feel interesting and march on my life.

We, Asians can also be fascinated with movie and tv superheroes, too you know. We have the ability to like and dislike celebrities, to idolize a character or something. I don't think race has a bearing on this ability.

He really looks like superman. His hero worship is in top. But I feel sad because I think he loses his individuality. Eventhough his effort is very very amazing and fantastic

I don't think he's losing his individuality because his love for Superman is one of the things that make up his individuality. And I agree with Joanna.

Thanks for this post secretbear. This is the first time I've heard about this. I'm not really into watching the news (I just do mostly when there are typhoons to find updates). I think this is okay, at least for him. He is happy and from what I've seen in the picture gallery, the kids are happy too.

Yeah, with his changed looks, he can entertain kids. He should do it for free or for a cause.

I heard and read about it and really it is shocking to me. What is he, a robot? To me he is weird, fanatic, a man made of steel and he should not be copied.

But you have to agree, he has guts to follow what he wants, what can make him happy.

I dread to think how much all that work cost to be done let alone the discomfort he went through to achieve it. The strange thing is that part of me thinks okay he looks better than he did but there is something so fake about it, un-natural and I wonder how much it's going to cost him to maintain it as well.

I have never had a cosmetic surgery and all the surgery I had experienced was a minor surgery to remove a cyst in my left hand. It did not hurt because of the anesthesia but it did hurt a lot when its effect faded away. I cannot imagine how the guy managed all the pain.

Everybody has right to do what they want as long as they do not hurt other people in pursuing their dreams. And yes, Herbert Chavez can do what he wants, after all it is his money he spends on the surgeries that transform him to look like Superman. But personally, I am a bit scared to do alterations on my face or my body. Herbert has undergone a lot of painful surgeries to look like Superman and I think that spells passion. How I wish though that he has the same passion to spend his money to help the less fortunate.

I agree. It's his body, his money so he's got the right to do whatever he wants. Maybe he can dress up and entertain kids once in a while, for free.

I just started an article about this guy and was published in other site. It's really amazing how an obsession turn things like this. Imagine 16 yrs of undergoing surgery and even had his skin bleached to have a lighter color skinned. I wonder how he will look once he aged more. I just hope he will never changed his mind and will try to have another look again. have a good day

It probably takes severe maintenance to take care of his new look and for him to age normally.

I saw him last cosplay convention at MOA. He totally looks like superman but with too much foundation. Anyway, from afar, he can be compared to that superhero. I guess his passion made him the urge to do things that are way beyond imagination. It takes bone scrapings to have the perfect shape of face. I guess it is a big ouch at first with that many alteration but it was worth it I think. I admire his braveness because of that.

Wow, you've seen him? I wonder what he looks like in person. I'm not sure if he has undergone bone scrapings, the news only said cosmetic surgeries and did not provide any more details. But that would have hurt!

i saw that on tv and i could not believe about it. i saw that he was already unrecognizable as himself and he was happy that he looked like one of his idols. as long as he is satisfied about what he did then i am fine with it

It is a bit way over the top but you have to give the man credit for his guts. Although, he will, for sure, be a subject of ridicule, maybe, for the rest of his life. I wonder what has gotten to his mind, maybe he also wants publicity and he got it.

Whoa! That's pretty extreme fanaticism all right. He must be rich to afford those surgeries. He's also pretty lucky because there are so many things that can go wrong with such surgeries.

We shouldn't undo what God has given us. But some people are just too obsessed with their idols and that prompted them to recreate their looks to look like them. Going under the knife has become so popular now and nobody cares the risk involved.

Thanks for the link that I got to know more of this "superman". He does look like the real superman, but I am wondering whether it is worth it to have so many surgeries to make himself look like superman. For sure he has run through a lot of pains from the surgeries. But anyway since he is a real fan of superman and is crazy of the superman, the surgeries are worth having. Thank you again again for sharing this news with us, secretbear. Have a good day.

Much as i think they are crazy, but i do really admire and respect their professionalism to make themselves look exactly the same as his idol, superman.. haha That's way too hardcore and too much to expect. Imagine the amount of money he has to spent on something that wo't last long? He's stupid in some ways but then again, obsession with something usually makes one out of their mind.. haha

I saw that one too in TV. I must say that he looks better than his previous face. However, he looks like a wax , though it could be because of the make-up. See, how money could transform a man? It''s really amazing how money can change even the way a man thinks of himself. This man is no exception.

Yeah! He looks like a was figure as Kei said. Actually, the first thing I thought of when I read the news was that he must have a lot of money! Cosmetic surgeries cost a lot, right? So he's probably rich or something.
