I bought a house this summer...never again to have to live in an apartment..well, hopefully anyway. But after 34 years of apartment living, I finally got a house WITH A BIG KITCHEN!!! Cooking/baking in that tiny apt kitchen was so horendous. I am so anxious to bake some cookies in my big kitchen! It will be such a pleasure and not so much work as it used to be. I am away from my kids now and I can't (well, I can, I just won't!) eat a full batch myself and something about halving a recipe just takest he fun out of it! So I plan to send cookies to my kids...they'll love it and so will I. I haven't baked in the summer...just to hot out here in So Cal. But watch out this winter...it'll be cookies, cookies, cookies! And some mini cupcakes! Are you anxious for the weather to cool off so you can get some baking done?

Yes, I am ready for some cooler weather and baking. HOwever, in this cold house the heat is needed to help heat the place! I'm ready for cakes here and muffins. We usually take baked muffins to work for breakfast during the winter. Yummy! Ok and as for your cookies, I'm on my way to help eat them..lol! Congratulatons on your new and big kitchen!! It sounds like you are enjoying it a lot!

Oh, muffins are SO included in the baking! I love them for breakfast! Blue berry muffins with melted butter..... And thanks...I am so looking forward to it. Yeah, baking in the winter also heats the house so that is a good thing too! That's why I don't bake in the summer..just heats the house up to much!

That's so exciting! Congratulations, I'm so happy for you. I love to bake cookies too, but it's hard since my kitchen doesn't have a lot of counter space. And the kitchen in the house I lived at previously was filled with mice. Ugh. You should put up some recipes one day! You sound like you have a lot of experience - a newbie like me could definitely learn a thing or two :)

Thanks! I'll say I got the recipes! I have been baking since probably 10 years old! My mom and aunt took cake decorating classes and both became professional cake decorators so I picked it up from the best! I sure do love it. Back in the day, when my family was all together, I made huge trays/baskets of all kinds of baked goods for each family. I am putting together a cookbook for my grand kids with family recipes and all those I made and the memories that go along with the recipe! That was the problem in the apts...no counter space. Even just for cooking a meal. It was so laborious I hated doing anything in there but making a glass of ice tea!

Congratulations on your house - and your big kitchen! That's very exciting news. Since we're in a rented duplex right now (since our house fire) with a small-ish kitchen that doesn't get much air circulation, I've been waiting until the weather cools down to bake much, too. Good news is that the temps are scheduled to drop tomorrow. Better news is that I have some ripe bananas in the kitchen that should be just perfect in the next couple of days to bake some flavorful banana bread, which my family loves. I'm sure I'll fit in some cookie baking soon, too. This rental oven bakes hotter and faster than my house oven, so I just have to be careful with the timing. (I did bake a quick batch of corn muffins last night and they were a tiny bit overdone.) Have fun with your cookie baking!

I didn't know about your house! how horrible! I am so sorry to hear that. I hope things are going well for you in respect to that. You have been through so much lately. I wish you luck and you have my prayers. Yeah, those tiny kitchens are the pits! I was in an apartment for 4 years and those years were miserable as I couldn't cook or bake much. Even just cooking a burger was tedious...couldn't turn around and of course...no more than ONE person in the kitchen at a time! I love banana bread and look forward to baking that to. I am going to get out my bread machine to bake bread....that is sooooo good...warm, freash white bread with melting butter.......

Thanks for the prayers. There's a lens about the fire, linked on my profile page if you want to take a look. Thanks, too, for that tempting description of freshly baked bread with melting butter. Oh, my, that sounds so good!

Haha. You are kidding, right? I don't bake cookies. I will call my mom and tell her to make me some cookies. I should send her some nice flowers to butter her up. She makes the best cookies but nothing is free with her. she always wants something for all her work. Last year I had to clean the gutters out. Most moms would be happy to bake cookies for her son. My girlfriend is out the question. She once burnt frozen peas. I don't even ask her to make me a poptart.

Well, seems to me to be a fair trade! You got what you want, Mom got what she NEEDED and both were happy! Amazing what a little cookie can do! I am happy to bake for my son, but when I need something....I do expect him to be there for me! That's what son's do for their mom's! And (I say this laughingly and partially serious...) maybe if you encouraged your girlfriend to cook things...she might learn how to cook! She can't be that bad...all my baking and cooking throughout the years with my daughter who hated to do either...she married at 21 and didn't know that you could boil water in the microwave so she just used hotest tap water she could get to make....jello!!! Now, a mom of an 11 year old...in the past several years, she has taught herself all kinds of cooking and baking and thanks to me..she even baked a triple decker birthday cake for her daughters birthday...and hand decorated it with piped icing...again...thanks to me! And don't worry about the PopTarts...they are gross anyway!

It has been aroung 50's and 40's around here for a week now so soups and baking are comforting this time of the year here. Glad to hear that you bought a home. Congratulations and many blessings ahead with your new home. Big Kitchens are a plus in any home. I have a very small one and I know how uncomfortable it is.

Thanks hardworkinggurl...yes, a small kitchen is so useless! Even just for cooking meals...just need to have room! I am so happy to be out of that...only took me 34 years! I'm in the high desert of california so I have probably till end of October before the cool weather hits. Then the first thing I do on the first rainy day is make a pot of Carroll Shelby chili and eat that while watching Lucille Ball in Long, Long Trailer. A family tradition started when my kids were little! They still do it! But the cookies, ah, the cookies...I also want to do muffins and mini cupcakes. Christmas this year is going to be fattening!!!!

Thanks so much. Only thing that would make it better was if I had my grand daughters here helping me! I did that a few times and they were so much fun and enjoyed it so much! But I have learned to take what I can get and hope for the rest! At age 2 ,my now 11 yo GD memorized the recipe for sugar cookies and literally did ALL the mixing and everything except the oven parts and hot cookie parts. Then I taught her how to use the icing piping tubes and she was great! That does it...I am scheduling a day with her!

Oh my but think about the joy you will be having during the baking moments. You will be all smiling each time you create some baked good. Many blessings my friend and you know I had a home for many years and am now living in an apartment. But listening to you gives me the courage to someday owning again.

Yeah, they all love my cookies. They each have a fav and I make those for them and fill a gallon jar with them for christmas gift! I tell them send the jar back and you'll get a refill.... and they do! I miss doing that!

I do not have to worry about the weather as I bake with a counter top infrared/convection oven that stays cool to the touch and does not release much heat into the kitchen. Congratulations on your beautiful new home. The kitchen is the biggest room in my house, only, problem is, I am not living in my house at present as my friend needs a companion so I am staying with him. Unfortunately although his house is way bigger than mine, his kitchen is dinky!

Thanks! I dont' do many oatmeal. Don't care for them much, however a friend at work once made some, and said the recipe was on the box of oatmeal. I tried it, and gotta say they weren't that bad! I love the best I guess, is sugar cookie cutouts...and then decorating them with piped icing! I love that! I plan on making a cookie tree for christmas this year!!!! Did so many years ago and I miss it, so I will do it this year!
