How many hours do you spend whatching television? I have never been a big fan of the TV, and now, since I have the computer, and my internet connection I almost never turn that thing on, mostly, what I do is watching the local soccer games, and even so, very once in a while. I have come to think that computers and the internet will replace television in a short period. What do you think?

Hi albto_568, before having internet connection at home few years back I spend 3 hours or so sitting in front of the tv daily. Since internet access is available at home I find it's more convenient to watch my favorite tv programs as well as listen to music online later. Moreover they are all free I then have the habit watching online videos. watching favorite movies in front of the tv is all over nowadays. to me computer and internet seem to replace television for I never would like to switch on the tv for years except my husband. He still would watch late evening news often.
Happy posting

You are most welcome albto_568, it's pretty great to have pc and internet at home so that two or more persons in the family could watch our respective tv program, movies and video on tv or computers Yeah, I believe deeply my husband would change his watching habit from tv to pc after he has found it's more convenient to watch latest evening news on computer as there isn't any time limited

I am sure he will switch one time and another, internet gives the facility of seeing news from other countries, with fresh and deeper comments on the news we are interested about, and not limited to one channel.

Thank you for your posting, lkbooi, I am like you, since I have the internet connection at home, I turn on the TV very seldom, maybe, as your husband, only to watch the news, at night, or when I am having a family meal in the dinning room, but, I rather watch videos and movies in the computer. Actually, I never was a big fan of TV anyway, and I think that sooner or later, internet will replace it.

I stream my tv through a Roku box attached to my TV. I watch maybe 2 hours a day. I only pay for my Netflix subscription so I am saving tons of money.

Nice tip, but, maybe I do not like tv that much to use it, I don´t even have cable at home. But that is my point, there are so many options, and netflix is just one of them, to even see television online, that I think that traditional tv broadcast will, at least, be diferent in the years to come, if not gone for good.

1-12 on Computer , on tv less then a hour .
The normal time i get around tv is when i dine with my family . Otheriwse i normally stay at my pc and play something or work something .
So the tv is normally the news i hear when eating , otherwise i dont get near it for a second . I think the computers overtook television long time ago , and now mostly old people watch it , but the earth is said to have and old population .

After seeing all the answers I have got I can conclude that, TV, is nowadays something like the radio, was to our generation, that once was the major media, but later, only our parents listen to it, after the arrival of TV. Thanks for your commentary.

Come to think of it... that might happen. We all are so engrossed on the internet and computer. I, for one, is a an avid TV viewer in the past. I used to watch most shows, be it a variety show, dancing show, teen show, drama shows... but when we started to have Internet at home, it's very rare now that I watch TV. I've missed a lot of shows and drama series, I've lost interest in them. The only time I get to watch TV was when I have no internet connection... and it's dinner/lunch time where I can see the TV from where I sit.

Something very similar to me, only that I never really was a big fan of the TV, and now, with the internet connection, I only turn the thing on, if there is a football game, or to see the news, just as you, at dinner/lunch time. :)

I still watch a fair amount of tv. I love half hour comedies and the prime time shows that come on between 8pm and 11pm. The tv is on in my house most of the day. Sometimes I just have it on as a comfort thing with the background noise. Then in the evenings I sit down to watch my shows. Some nights I have shows from 8 to 11. Some of the days I don't.

I don't know how many hours I watch televison as our telly spends most of the day on. But we are not actually watching everything that is being showed. It is used for background noise like the radio so I listen to the telly as I'm doing the jobs. Because there is a lot of chatting shows on I do stop and watch if there is something I really want to listen/watch. But I do that if the radio is on and something intersting comes on the radio I will stop and properly listen.
Sometimes when there isn't much on the telly in the evening I'll have the tv on QVC or Idealworld shopping channels and sit on the pc or read a book or do jobs or even go on the wiifit so again its just background noise. I do also have the music channels on and that again is like having the radio on.
But if you took the telly away from me I wouldn't really miss it that much as I would just play more cd's and listen to the radio

Reading your comment, I was thinking the same, that you wouldn´t really miss TV if it were gone, as for myself, the first thing I do in the mornings,is to turn the computer on, and form a reproduction list for some hours I intend to be working, or doing something else, so, I don´t even turn tv on even as background noise, but I did, I used to turn it on on the news channel, but I do not do this anymore now.

I think that I can´t say that I use to watch a lot of tv myself, before I got internet at home, maybe I use to be 5 to 6 hours a week, now, maybe I stay twice as much of it on the computer, strange thing.

News are almost the only thing I watch now, and sports, but you are right, news can be really depressing, and I rarely watch the entire news magazine, I like watching cartoons too, but, nowadays, I´d rather spend time in the computer. Thank you for your comment

Depending on what is being showed, I can spend that much on the tv, but maybe not on a daily basis, maybe if there is a good movie, or an interesting game, but that´s it, I prefer to be at the internet this days.

I've never really liked watching TV.From my childhood years 'till now..The only time i have to watch TV is when im in my daughter's room..She's my exact opposite, she spends too much time watching TV ,that's why i am forced to implement a rule on her with regards to TV time..Since Grade one,She is not allowed to watch TV during school days, she can have her TV time starting Friday afternoon 'till Sunday 8:30pm..

Television has been the most powerful medium of comunication from the 50´s to date, but, I don´t think that it will keep this priviledge status for so long, I think that the importance of the internet has been growing, mainly because, is a far more interactive medium, we just have to watch how it was used in the recent riots in the middle east, and the students demostrations in Chile, just to give two examples. Television is part of our lives, indeed, but I think that it has reached its top, while the internet is still growing and maybe will replace it. Thanks for your comment, good luck to you too.

I rarely watch TV, because I work at the office until 5 pm. After work, i prefer to play with my kid. Sometimes I accompanied my children to watch TV kid before bed. After my child sleep, i turn on the computer and perform activity on Mylot. So yu could say that I was watching TV about 1 -2 hours a day even less.

I prefer being in the computer, performing activity on mylot, and rarely watch television, sometimes, I don´t even turn it on in the entire day, I believe that in the future, the importance of the television as a mediumof comunication will decrease, while the internet is growing every day, mainly because people can actually interact, and not be only a passive receptor of information.

I watch TV only one hour in working day (need see my favorite serial).
I better sittig in the internet than watching TV or go outside walking.
TV for me are in long winter evening when nothing can do outside
And in summer always are outside works and partys and sunbathing...
I agree internet now can replace TV, but my serial are my country serial and very interesting ( it is not soap opera ).

On a weekdays i watched tv after office like 2 to 3 hours, but if im tired an hour is ok with me.. or sometimes forgot to turn off coz i was falling asleep already.
On a weekends normally frm afternoon till evening that if i have nothing to do.. but if im tired and not feeling well then probably no tv just in bed sleeping all day.

I used to have a similar routine as yours, only now, I rather be here on the computer, either here, on mylot, or somewhere else, and somedays, I don´t even bother in turning the television on. Television actually bore me nowadays, that I only use to watch my soccer games, but even that is becoming to bore me now.

I still watch the Tv sometimes when my favorite shows or TV programs are on. I usually watch a bit of TV before I go on the internet because I need to wait for the my old computer to load up and it takes a while, so why not pass the time with a bit of TV? Most of my friends don't watch Tv that much, they just go online to watch all their favorite programs. I prefer to just watch on TV because I don't want to waste my internet download. I prefer watching things on the big screen rather than on a small screen like my computer and sometimes the computer lags so watching online isn't that satisfying and enjoyable. So I spend about 1 to 2 hours watching TV on a daily basis depending what's on.

I also know people that watch television on their computers, but I don´t like either, what I think is that television will, somehow, melt with the internet, this is actually seen in the most recent models of televisions, I don´t think that the TV can stay much longer with its actual format.
