pets dressing up for Halloween

My Daughter and I were strolling thru GoodWill looking for a costume for her and we so the cutest lil outfits for Halloween for dogs. Makes us wish we had a lil dog to do that too... ours would probably eat it *LOL* And the cats... well Mr Boots would tolerate it for a lil bit but of course those weren't cat outfits but he's so big he could be a small dog! My MIL when she had her cat though put something on him that looked like a scrunchie pumpkin. The cat did not seem the least bit amused or cute. Do your pets get dressed up for the holidays? Halloween or other holiday? or not at all.

Why do you think a dog would appreciate the costume, if the cat didn't show any sign she liked the treatment? I never saw any dog to like being dressed up. To please us, they may accept clothes but no dog likes to be dressed up. Not for holidays, not for nothing. It may look nice to us but those Halloween outfits for dogs are far from what they like.

I don't know, maybe you are right. But I don't like outfits for dogs at all. Except for the vests that are used to keep them warm in case they are old, weak or ill or some raincoats that may be useful in wet weather.

I don't currently have pets but my neighbors do. There are so many that get into the spirit and dress their dogs up and have them with them on walks so we can see them in their costumes. I think it is cute and find that the pet owners enjoy it more.

I have heard where the pets do not really enjoy this and are really uncomfortable.

It may look cute but, as dog lovers, we should put dogs' interest first. And dogs don't like to be dressed up so we should forget about outfits for dogs.

I am FAR too attached to my skin to try and dress my cats, heck, there are some I wouldn't even put a collar on! and lets think... Maggiepie is in the hospital for a fairly minor cat bite that got infected... nooooo, not dressing my cats!

my Lurcher usually wears various bandanas for special occasions and he loves it because he feels very special. I'll also put t shirts on him, which he finds very exciting too.

When the Dobbies go to the groomer they always have scarfs (bandanas) when they come back...They were fine with those.

It's not really something that I have a habit of doing. I'm not really interested in doing so personally. Besides, I don't really thing that our dog would appreciate us putting any kind of clothing on her. She would probably just look at us and think that we were crazy. It wouldn't stay on for very long.

That is true some pets will not tolerate being dressed up. Some don't even like their collars on.

3SnuggleBunnies I used to like to put hats on my pets. A Santa hat for Christmas, or reindeer antlers..on my Doberman. For Easter, bunny ears... My cat never tolerated anything but the dog would put up with it... I think it's cute and if the animal doesn't mind..why not make everyone smile???Plus the photos are great...

They may not show this but they don't enjoy those outfits. They live to please us and they would do anything to make us happy (unlike cats who "speak" their mind and refuse anything they don't like). And, if wearing a Santa hat or bunny ears makes us smile and give them attention, they pretend they are happy for us.

When it gets cold I usually get a shirt or sweater for my dog, but I don't usually buy a costume. However, my sister bought my dog a Christmas sweater with a Santa hat last year and it was adorable.

AmbiePam I think in really cold weather a sweater is very nice for a pet. We tried to buy booties for my daughters dobermans but they were not happy ..she had 2 dogs so putting on 8 booties was a real chore....

I don't do things like that to my dogs. I think it is cruel and I've never seen a dog or cat that looks happy about being dressed up. In fact, I sit out on the porch and close off the dog door on beggar's night so my dogs won't exhaust themselves barking at all those strangers or get hurt from one of the psycho teens that might take exception at their barking. They stay inside, safe and warm, while I enjoy giving out candy to the kids.

My cats would kill me! They've tried to kill me for less! I can barely even put flea medicine on them without it resulting in serious injury. No way would I attempt an outfit or costume!

I never got into the whole idea of putting clothes on pets. To me clothes are for people not animals. Plus I think the majority of the pets are wondering why in the world they have to wear those outfits.

Well, we did buy a little reindeer outfit for Jasmine a couple years ago and she looked really cute in it, but she would not leave it on for very long, I don't think that she liked the antlers that went with the outfit. As far as our cats go, there is no way that I would even attempt it though I believe that the kitten would wear whatever we put on her. I'm not one of those people that likes to dress my animals, but I believe that if I was to allow Kathryn to do it, the dogs would have as many sets of clothes as she does.

Not many animals like wearing anything except for thier fur. My sister likes to dress our dog up but the dog barely lets her do so I think she might try to dress her up this year for halloween but I'm not sure.

I think the dress up for Halloween concept is really cute. Too bad it's not very popular here in the Philippines. Only big malls throw Halloween parties. And I also like dressing up but I don't have pets so I only dress up my daughter.. I think kids really look good in different outfits. I have seen dogs who had costumes on, but only on tv's and magazines.
