Is it possible to still have your period and get a negative result on an at home pregnancy test? I have been so nauseated, gaining weight, no energy, always tired, and I don't know why. Has anyone else had this happen before or know what it could be?

If you still have your period and you get a negative result on a home pregnancy test, you're not pregnant. You should go to the doctor. It could be several other things - thyroid issues, vitamin deficiency, anemia, etc. It's much better to have a few tests run and find out what it is.

Still, if the over the counter test showed negative, it's probably correct. You should definitely go to the doctor and be checked. It could still be anemia and it didn't occur until after your last physical.

But my period was all screwed up. I had one day of a reg period and spotted one day. I know it's not anemia b/c they would have told me that at my pap.

Yes it is very possble that you can be pregnant. Do you take any hormonal birth control pills? Are you still on them? It's not uncommon that you don't miss the first period after conception and the irregular period is a common sign of pregnancy. My friend never missed a period, only gained a little weight and although she thought she might be pregnant, she dismissed the idea as she kept having regular periods and she thought her changed eating habits were the cause of that little weight gain. She took pregnancy tests for a few months and they were all negative. Then one night she got very ill and was rushed to the emergency room, where she delivered a healthy little baby girl. I saw her almost every day during her pregnancy and it never even occured to me she was pregnant. The doctors later told her the pill she was on, developed "fake" periods. Her daughter is now 22 years old and has always been healthy. You should take the advice everyone else has been giving you and see your doctor to find out for sure why you are feeling like this. Hope the outcome is what you are hoping for.

No, I have been off birth control for the last 3 years. My husband and I have been wanting another child and have been trying since March, but he left in May for BCT, we saw him one weekend in Aug, he went to AIT then Oklahoma. I have seen him twice after AIT every other weekend in October before he went to OK. We are due to go to OK next week when he drives over to get us.

I think it would be a good idea to go see a Dr so you can get bloodwork done. Good luck

I would never trust a test you buy at the store over a doctor's analysis. If you are doubtful, go to the doctor. Of course the other advantage is if it's not pregnancy but something else, they could diagnose it for you.

If you have your period, it's likely that you'd get a negative. Was your period a normal period or was it lighter than normal?

The first day was pretty normal, with minimal bleeding, the next day was spotty, then it tampered off. Usually I have like 5 - 7 day periods.

The home tests are pretty accurate now but it is possible. You probably want to see a doctor. It is possible these are signs of a serious illness. You should go have them check you out! It is better to be safe than sorry.

Well, I just had my pap done at the beginning of Oct and still have heard nothing of the results. With my ins, I always have to go see my family dr and get a referral to go to the GYN.

The home pregnancy tests are pretty accurate now. You may be suffering from depression. If you live in an area that gets less sunlight because of the change in seasons, you may be suffering from lack of sunlight.

I wouldn't think that that was it. We get plenty of sunlight in GA.

I'm sorry to hear that. Did she still have her period? My last one was not right at all. I was heavy for one day, off the next, and spotted for a day and it was gone. Usually they last for a good 5 days or better.

It can happen but it does not happen now days as often due to better home pregnancy tests. The best thing you can do is go to the doctor and tell her/him what you are feeling like. There are many things it can be...so involving a doctor is your best attack.

It's possible. When I was pregnant with my son, I still had my period the first 2 or 3 months. I went to the dr and they did a pregnancy test and confirmed I was pregnant. When I still had my period they did an ultrasound to see if everything was okay. He was fine! I'd suggest you get in to your dr for a pregnancy test. If negative, get your thyroid checked. Most of the symptoms you described can indicate a thyroid problem too. Best of luck to you. :)
