Just because Rick Perry is from my state of Texas is not enough of a reason to vote him in for the next President. I tend to get really fed up with all of the political wrangling and posturing that goes on. So sometimes I can't even stand to keep up with shat is going on. I like to wait until the field has been weeded out a little first. With all of that said, I just noticed Perry was wanting a 20% flat tax and a cap of 18% on government spending! WHAT! My attention was immediately grabbed! This sounds really promising! I have been all for the flat tax for many years and have signed many petitions for that change. I feel it is the only way to make tax fair...everyone gives the same percentage of their income. Anyway...it might be time for me to start paying a little more attention now. http://news.yahoo.com/rick-perrys-economic-fix-20-flat-tax-cap-022547777.html

I too am for a flat tax but Perry's is so high. Herman Cain has his 9-9-9 plan and his flat tax is 9%.. that's a huge difference. I personally like Herman Cain. So far everything he has said minus one or two comments has been on my track of thinking. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/herman-cain-biography-republican-2012-presidential-candidates/story?id=14626493 There is something about the fact that he is a businessman who has not been in the political forum that I really like, or maybe it's hope. Hope that a non politician will bring in real changes just not a new face. Is Perry A democrat or Republican, I know I know but can';t remember..they all sorta drone into each other..lol. Which may be why I like Cain also he has a presence that is comforting to me some how though I cannot pin point what or why.

Cane's plan has more than a flat tax, though. That's only one part of it. That's only the first 9 in 9-9-9.

Yes I know. I was just comparing that one point as it was mentioned about Perry's plan which also of coarse has more to it.

Hmm, but wouldn't a flat income tax hurt the poorest Americans?

I'm all for a flat tax but I doubt it will ever get done because it would take Congress to pass the legislation and they'll never do it. They have too much power and make too much money by promising tax breaks to their campaign contributors, passing tax legislation and regulations favorable to selected industries that can put money in their pockets and help them win more and more power. If we had a legislative branch worth a damn that was truly interested in what was good for the country and the people they work for we would still be a rich country. Perry is too easy on illegal immigration for my taste. I really hope Herman Cain can be nominated, he has so many good ideas and the strength and determination to get them done.

I agree. I don't have the same confidence in Perry that I do in Cain. It will be hard for any of these people to keep the promises they are making if Congress doesn't change -- especially the Senate. We support Club for Growth because they find and support people for Congress that the Republican party would like to forget. The Tea Party will also primary some of the incumbants who seem to work for themselves more than for the people.

Upon further investigation, his plan really doesn't seem that great: http://www.economist.com/node/21534551 He'd be offering a dual tax code. That is to say, you'd be able to choose between two alternative tax systems. It'd be up to you to calculate which one is more beneficial. So much for "simplifying the tax code." You also have to take into consideration that he has still not specified what he's planning to cut. Furthermore, how can we be sure that his 18% cap will even be covered by the revenues he'll be bringing in? Are we not risking more deficit spending due to LESS revenue coming in?

As a fellow Texan, I can't say I'm thrilled with Perry either, but this flat tax thing... that's interesting - except as president he wouldn't have the power to scrap the old tax laws, he'd have to have the houses of Congress in line with him...

Perry's stance on illegal immigrants made me decide that he wasn't the man for the job. In my opinion,if we get rid of all of the illegals the majority of our problems will be solved.
