Buy Your Own Socks

My daughter has returned home after four years at college. She has a job and plenty of disposable income. You'd think that she would be able to buy her own clothes. But no. She wears my pullovers, scarves and most annoying of all, my socks! She's always pinching them leaving me to go hunting for a pair after my shower. There should be a law against it!! Buy your own!!

Goodness. I think being your daughter, she thinks your things are her things too. I have four daughters and each one behaves differently from the other. One is pretty stingy with her stuff and money, another is very generous but can be quite rude, the third one is an enigma because she kept to herself most of the time and the youngest is the most pampered.
You'd think that your daughter who already has a job should be able to buy her own stuff and perhaps buy some for you too. That is what I would expect my daughters to do if they have a job and their own money.

Maybe your clothes are more comfortable. Perhaps you could tell her where you buy your clothes or how about telling her that you would like clothes for Christmas, she buys them for you and then pinches your old ones. At least that way she has bought some! You know men's socks are far more comfortable (and usually both cheaper and better quality) than women's. Or, if it's that Pikelet just doesn't like clothes shopping, you could offer to go for her if she gives you the money. :)
But there should not be a law against borrowing Dad's clothes. We don't want to go buying things if we haven't already tested them out. Think about how you'd feel if your daughter was a girly girl and spent all her spare time shopping, ending up with entire rooms full of clothes. Surely, borrowing your stuff, there's much more space in the wardrobes! :P

Yours must just be more comfy then. Or maybe she prefers men's clothes but doesn't feel comfortable actually buying them for herself. I could do with more socks! I keep buying new ones but we also have 2 boxes and several bags of odd socks even after buying sets of socks exactly the same. I keep having a clear out but they just keep coming after me.

My dear little P1key...
I know you prefer the females in your life to be the alpha persuasion!!! In this case, I think you are WRONG!!! YOU are the parent & if YOU feel it is against the law to pinch your socks...then it IS AGAINST THE LAW!!! How is the P1klet to know she's breaking your law IF you don't tell her??? If you don't feel alpha enough to handle this yourself, ask "The Boss" to have a talk with her. If this truly bugs you, just set P1klet down & tell her you don't appreciate her pinching your socks & there is a NEW rule in the house...NO PINCHING!!! (not of socks anyway) She's old enough to understand the rule & definitely old enough to learn to RESPECT you & your rules!!! If all else fails, you may use my Dad's old standby...As long as you live under my roof, you WILL llive under my rules!!! Then your first rule would be NO PINCHING MY SOCKS!!! You could also place a fine for each offense until you "get her attention"!!!
I know, I know...you aren't going to do this because it would require you to become dominant & that goes against your nature. That's why I suggested you "ask The Boss" to deal with it for you. Now, I don't want any lip service about how it's not going to work...it's up to you to make it work!!!

LOL LOL LOL P1ke that made my day. Really.
Its similar here with me pinching my husbands stuff. See, due to taking meds he has gained a lot of weight since we met 9 years ago. Before he left for the rehab in August this year we went through the contents of his closet to decide what he has to stock up on. He still had two jeans he will not fit into again, but I fit in so the legs only needed to be shortened a bit and they are mine now. Then he found a sports jacket he cant wear any more for the same weight reasons. I fit in so that was mine too from then on.

dear P1kef1sh no need to worry. He has lost about half of that really critical overweight since March when he was admitted to hospital cause of these heart problems. Its relatively easy for him to lose weight now as the thyroid medicine was increased. Men are really fortunate they lose weight so fast.

Wearing your clothes is her way of letting you know how much she loves her dad. Just be grateful you only had one child.

Well, the good part is your daughter is close enough to steal your socks. The bad part is that she is doing it. My kids are not even big enough to fit my clothes yet always want to wear my t-shirts to bed. Have you told her how much it annoys you? Telling her can do one of two things. First she may do it even more just for the sake of bugging you. Or she may realize it is really getting on your nerves and stop doing it or at least slow down on it. I know what I would get her for Christmas though...SOCKS!

The ex used to wear my old bathrobe until I put it in the yard sale box. :D
Why would he want a woman's bathrobe with pooh bear on it?

We have a wonderful system in this house. My son steals my socks. My partner passes on to me his socks with holes in the heels as my feet are smaller so the holes less annoying. Neither of them can ever find any socks because they leave the remaining decent ones screwed up under the beds. Dirty, obviously. I wash all the socks.
I am hard done by and my socks have holes in. Woe is me.

Awww.....Daddy getting possessive of his socks!!! Come on.... that is actually sweet!! That shows you are still the number one MAN in her life.
How would you feel if she stopped doing that??? I bet you're secretly glad she still thinks your clothes are good enough for her.

You need to tell her to buy her own socks and leave yours alone. I would never wear someone elses socks.
