Which do you think is better? Home-based or Office-based jobs? What makes you prefer it? In my case, I'm working as an online tutor at home. It's a good job and it's quite easy for me. I only need to work for 5hours or so and I could get the same/higher compensation compared to office-based jobs/professional jobs. I only work in the evening and sometimes in the mornings but I usually have a lot of time, which I spend studying feasibility of businesses in my country (planning a business or something). My current job has good benefits but it's also quite a hassle. For example, I'm confused with the tax system for individual contractors like me. I am responsible for my own taxes, SSS, healthcare... things like that. No paid leaves and other benefits. I don't even get a Christmas bonus. I just graduated a year ago and I'm planning to go to medical school. I can get an office/hospital based job if I like but the compensation does not equate with one's efforts. I know that salary should not always be the basis but the economy is not so good now, so I think money really matters. Well, how about you? What do you think?

I would prefer to have an Office-Based jobs but those only for the related job with my college course because I really wanted to work, be passionate, and specialize in the jobs related to my college degree. Having a job for me means that its only the extension of studying and widening things that we are passionate for. Although we are suffering global economy crisis I still want to be employed on Big company names. But this are dreams for now since I'm still studying and this are my future plans and I know it is really hard to get what I want. =) I also prefer Home-based jobs as a source of additional income and as a part time job which makes me pay our bills in our house and for buying things that I want. =)

I am really great since my parents supported me on what things I really want to take in College. Being a nurse is a really hard and tiring job and really needs a manual labor there. Hope you can find yourself and really find what you really want to work at and you will enjoy it. =)

I also want to use what I've majored in but doing so will bind me in a contract for 3 years. I'm a registered nurse but if I started working in the hospital, I have to sign a contract and work there for 3 years. My friends have started working in the hospital and I'm a little bit discouraged because most of them have bad experiences in the workplace that they wanted to quit (they only started less than 6mos ago). The contract will also stop me from going to medical school. Sometimes I wish I took up something related to business/IT because I'm more interested in intellectual work than manual labor.

I think that there are pros and cons with both working at hime and working outside the home. As you stated, working at home requires you to take care of your own taxes and such, whereas, working for an employer does not. You do not have any paid benefits associated with your at home job, whereas, working for somepne else, you would have those benfits in time. Nope, working at home, you do not get paid leave for sick time, personal time, or vacation, which you would probably get- in time- with an employer. All of these are things that are not so great about working at home.....However, you are your own boss, you can work around your own schedule, you can always increase your income, or even work less if you choose. You can take time off when you need to, without having to worry about your boss replacing you, you save money by not having to commute to and from work, you make more money overall, and if you need to take a break, you can do so when you feel like it. I have worked for an employer, and I have worked for myself. I feel that overall, working for oneself is much better than working for someone else. I would much rather rely on myself for my income than rely on an employer.

I've read some blogs on the disadvantages of home-based jobs. They always point out that "we start at a low level first" and from that, the only way to go is up. Working in a company, they give you the opportunity to develop your skills and gain experience. In my case, there's the thought that maybe in the long run, not starting in an institution may not bode well for me. There's also a guilty feeling... as if I wasted my time in the university studying something that I will not follow through.

To me, I think it is much like a "there's always something we have to give." In jobs like office work, we get to meet other employees/workers, but then again deal with the boss and told when able to leave or sometimes deal with disrespectful/rude employees/workers and wake up when we are told. When we are at home, we can work when we want as long as we work the minimum hours but the catch...the opposite, we don't have no one to talk to and laugh with like they do at a work site or offices. Almost like people to accompany us even when going out to lunch and spent time with them while having our break. I do like the work at home basis or home-based jobs. I think I could deal with home-based jobs because when we go to work we go there to work, not fool around haha. When it is our lunch time/break (which we could also when to call it), we could always invite a friend who might be in the neighborhood or close to the place we want to have lunch to meet up to eat, so that's not much of a problem. When it is the weekend or weekdays evening, that's when we have all the time in the world. Also we get to call it quits for the day without worrying about the boss having us to do something else before ending our shift.

Working from home is a great perk these days. It leads to a more productive worker with less lateness and absenteeism. It is not for everyone, however. you have to be well disciplined and able to motivate yourself to get your work done. I can work from home at times and love it.

I think home based job is more preferred. Because it saves a lot of time in the office and you can earn more money than the salary in your office.

Right! But I feel alone. It's a little bit boring as time passes by. I wanna try something new and learn in a different environment.

Hi aj, You are one of those whom I had really great ambition to be one: to work online, staying in my home and earning money at the same time. I understand the limitations and the disadvantages but the advantages of not riding to work day in and day out, the hassles of office work and with co-workers, the fixed time, not to mention the overtimes surpass the things you are griping now. I am a day worker and how I long to work at home, just sitting down at my workstation and submitting my work to be paid, all at the comfort of my own space. Working in an office really get on your nerves especially when the environment is not so friendly to start with, competition, rat race, and all that stuff is the daily grind to an otherwise smooth process of earning a living.

I haven't experienced working in an office-based job. Reading your comment made me less inclined to try it (for now). But working at home makes me feel "caged" and it also depends on how hardworking I am. If I work in the office, I can meet other people. I think my major complaint with home-based jobs is the lack of socialization. I'm missing meeting with new people even though some of them may tend to be annoying.

I don't have good skill to do home-based job. If I get opportunity or offer in office-based job, I'll be glad. But, If I'm you, it would be great if work on own rules. Yeah I agree with you, based on economic situation right now, money really matters.
