How do you heat your home?

We use to use the oil furnace. But it got so expensive. We use the woodstove to heat our home now. It is a pain in the butt. Cutting, splitting, hauing it. And the mess in the house. Dusting and sweeping all the time. But theres nothing better than wood heat. =) Also if I want. I can put a pan of soup, beans, chili whatever on it. And let it cook all day. And if the electricity goes off. We can cook on top the stove. ~*~ Happy Holidays ~*~

There is a lot of heat loss from some of our windows so I glue them up with silocone sealing and the peal it of in the spring. It helps to keep what heat we have in.

That is such a great idea, I'll have to try that with our upstairs bedrooms. Thanks so much for the tip, and for replying!

We heat with propane. Expensive!!! But, we have a fireplace too. I wish that we had a woodstove too. I told my husband that we should look into getting one and removing the fireplace. The warmth that a woodstove puts out is great. And you are so right about coking atop a woodstove. Great stuff. Merry Christmas to you!

If you're going to get a woodstove to replace the Fireplace, then be sure you remove the fireplace's damper before inserting the wood stove. If you don't get that first damper out it could cause you to have a chimney fire. I wish you luck with finding one and Happy Holidays to you as well!

Gas heaters are quite expensive, and while the wood stove is cheaper if you cut your own wood. It's quite a lot of physical labor, lol.

I miss our woodstove, we warmed ourselves when we cut and stacked and then we warmed ourselves with it by burning. Yeah you have to dust however that is exercise and it keeps you in touch with all your "valuables" I too cooked all day at times since there is a cooler spot that will simmer and warm you again from the inside!!We are in a trailer now. and we had a propane furnace that quit today..will get another by Monday or Tuesday...sure miss our woodstove!!

We used to live in a trailer as well, and had to use a kerosene heater. I was never found of them. The price of kerosene, the smell. It did the job, but I most definitely prefer wood stoves over them as well. =-(

Fireplace - I like fireplace. It's so romantic
We have 2 ways of heating our house. One is the fireplace and the other is the central heating.

home - home
we dont need to heat homes..cos im from a region where the climate is mostly temperate throughout the year.....there hasnt been a drastic temperature drop too..so homes would naturally be warm ...

Actually we have a gas heater now but rarely turn it on instead we will rug up to keep warm. That is much cheaper not to mention better for the environment. When we had the farm, we did have a fireplace as well as a wood stove. Both were good but made a lot of extra work, however the bonus is as you mention that you can cook on the stove top and save on electricity.

We try to bundle up as much as we can before starting a fire in the woodstove. But here lately it's just been far too cold, and we've needed the extra heat. Gas heaters are just too expensive to keep up with.

That's awful! We had a chimney fire earlier this year, and I know how scary that is. I'm terribly sorry to hear that it was damaging to the chimney, those repairs can be frightfully expensive, but so can oil. It's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The wood stove is a real pain, it heats the room it's in good. And sometimes the kitchen. But the heat rarely makes it upstairs to our bedrooms. *Whines* But- It's better than no heat at all ^_^

That sounds like a good idea, don't they heat the house pretty good too? Or is it kinda restricted to one room? We have natural gas heater/furnace-not sure what it is lol, it's outside and it's actually combined with the a/c unit. The gas I'm guessing is gonna be real expensive, so I keep it set real low, about 62-64 degrees, then I bought a couple of electric spaceheaters for the bedrooms, family room. Also I use an electric blanket on my bed. We just bundle up more during the day, waiting for the gas bill to show up, hopefully it'll still be low for all my efforts to save lol.

Well the room with the stove is pretty toasty. lol We use fans to circulate the heat into the rest of the house. OMgosh yeppers natural gas is expensive. We used it at a house we rented one year. It was awful. And something was wrong with the furnace. Putting toxic fumes into the house. Almost put us in the hospital. Becareful with it~ =) Thanks for commenting
