I would like to find some ways to reduce my expenses. I am making a list of the things that I could do to save some money everyday. First, I thought to stop eating out my lunch and take some food from home instead of buying sandwitches. Do you have any useful tips?

I take one "take away" cappuccino every morning and a sandwitch for lunch. I have my breakfast and dinner at home, so I was thinking that I could prepare a sandwitch from home and take it with me. But I'm afraid it's going to be boring to eat the same sandwitch every day, that's why I haven't done it until now. Carrying the coffee from home is difficult, i am not sure how I could avoid that..

The best way to save money is to open a savings account to your trusted bank, and deposit at least 25% of your salary, it should be compulsory in your part, that each payday you go directly to your bank and deposit, this works for me, By the way, My salary is in cash, I don't know if you're company is paying you by card.

yup, I guess 25% is too much for now, Since I am not require to pay any obligation than my personal needs, it wasn't a burden at all, I want to have a financial stability when I get older and and when I couldn't bare to work for my needs and my future family, I don't need to worry for future financial issues.

First things first. Live well below your means. This is the best rule for you to be able to save. It starts in here. If you don't do this, then no matter what you do, you won't be able to save a cent. Next, set your budget plan or savings goal. This will give you motivation and the discipline to save. If you have a target, you are on a direction and you will always have something in mind to get saving done. Follow your budget plan faithfully. You do this by setting the amount or percentage of your generated income to savings. You should be able to work that thing out depending on your expenses and generated income value. Then after accumulating some money by saving, go for investing. This will further increase your savings and create passive income for you. I hope this one helps. Also, I do have a discussion regarding on how to save. A lot of other myLotters really gave good responses and ways to save in there. Try to browse it on my profile page. I hope you'll learn a lot from there. Happy saving!

Of course, if investing doesn't give me any profits why would I stay with them or even share it in here. The tricky part is where to invest and how much you can invest. There are a lot of investing opportunities in there, however, not all kinds of investments are suitable for certain people. You just have to find the right investment that you should take. For a suggested start, try inquiring with your bank about their investment products to have a feel about it and add knowledge about it. Then you can try to venture in other investment vehicles once you have accumulated enough knowledge about it. There are investments which are volatile and you can lose money. But there are investments which are sure to add up to your money. But of course, the bigger the risk, the bigger the rewards.

That is usually my problem on the first week when I get my salary lol. What I do is I write a budget list. I will make sure that I will at least save some thousand bucks a month, I will put it in bond so I'm sure that I will never use it. Whenever I buy anything (from small things like candy to big things like bags or clothes), I always put it in my list. After the end of the month, I will add all the prices of the items I bought. I did it once, and it helped me a lot to be thrifty the following month. In that list, you will learn how much you spend every month. You will realize that even if you buy small things, such as candies and coffee, if you add it for the whole month, it will cost you a lot. If you do that, you will learn to budget well on the next month. Imagine, I tried this technique and I was so shocked to realize that I spend an average of $500 a month when eating in fast food or drinking coffee in starbucks . sine then, I tried not to eat too much outside, and I saved a lot.

Thank you mariahhh! I have started doing a budget list from next month. I have noticed that my salary dissapears each month and I don't know from where to start. If I have a clear list of what I spend, I will be able to control it and set a limit for the next month as you did.

I have to stay away from the shops as I have found it can be the little things you buy that really do add up, I try and do my supermarket shopping in one go because it is very hard to stick to a list as I might go just to buy bread and milk and I then come out with a beasket full of stuff...and never go to the supermarket hungry...

Saving money can certainly be difficult to do. I think one thing to do is to budget carefully, and make sure to put a little bit aside. And the money aside make sure to not touch it or anything like that. It doesn't have to be a lot. But at least a little bit is always good. This is what I try to do.

Hi Besweet, that is a good idea.
I think you can buy tins of sardine or tuna, and make your own sandwich.
That is definitely cheaper than buying food outside.
Best to avoid buying drinks too.
Drinking water is the cheapest option.
Plus you can go for cheaper hobby such as reading, instead of watching TV.
That will save a bit of money on electricity.

Thank you scheng1 :)
I am still trying to get ideas for my lunch menu! I like tuna and I could add mayo and corn in the sandwitch.
About drinks, I really love coffee and I can't work without it, but maybe I can buy one of those instant cappuccinos from the super market and make it with boiled water at the office.
Have a nice day!

I usually transfer my monthly income to an account which I can't assess at all and do not have any withdrawal facilities that convenient me. A bank which is not hook to any alliance so I don't get money that easily and I just gave up the idea of buying stuff knowing that budget spending is met.

hmm I used to do that when I was younger, I had an account without a card so I had to go to the bank if I really needed to take money. And of course most of the times I was bored and this technique actually helped me to save some money.
But now banks are very pressing with their cards and having a card for this account makes withdrawing from it the first idea each time i run out of cash..

I agree that making a budget is crucial. It sounds boring, I know, but it really works and it also gives you a good idea of how much it is realistic of you to save every month.
I also suggest that you automate part of your savings, meaning some amount should be taken automatically from your paycheck to your savings account without you ever seeing it in the first place. I do this, and it works really well.

The budget plan will work, I don't even know where I spend most of my salary. I am guessing it is super market and junk food but I am not sure.
Unfortunately I don't have extra money for big savings, my salary was reduced due to the crisis here and I must live with less money than I used to so I am trying to find some ways to balance everything.

The simplest tip to save money is to always restrict your expenditure below the level of your earnings. So you must make a budget and should always be careful your expenditure. You should follow the age-old saying; to cut your coat according to your cloth.

The best tip which helped me to save much more of my money was just choosing one day from the week when you have to not spend even a single penny. It is really hard but now I am expert in it and almost save most of money. Also getting home packed lunch to college or office is also one tip which saves so much.
I would advise you to go for choosing one day to not spend even a single penny in the week. You will automatically see the change in your funds.

@besweet You made a good start. Cutting out things that you don't actually have to do is a good thing. To only budget yourself on things you NEED rather than things you WANT. And after some time you'll see money being saved.
