i "sleep" my problems

What do you do when you feel so stressed because of problems, may it be from work, finances, etc? In my case, I cope with stress by sleeping. The feeling is really weird! Whenever there are problems, I feel really sleepy and I have to go to sleep before I could think about it (unless it's an emergency situation). For other people, stress often resulted to a "flight or fight" response. The adrenaline from stress provides the body with "instant" energy/power that made you do things that you can't usually do. When problems arise, it normally stimulates the sympathetic system of our body, releasing adrenaline and it sometimes leads to panic/anxiety. But in my case, I feel unusually calm and then sleepy. It works well for me because upon waking up, I can easily think of solutions for the problem. So, it's like SLEEP FIRST THEN THINK. :) How about you? How do you cope with stress?

I simply think and think over about it. I end up not eating or sleeping well as I think what is the best thing forward.

That true. Sleeping is good but when I am stressed, it is really hard for me to sleep and spend the night hovering around and thinking. I don't know what I can do to be able to sleep.

Difficulty sleeping? I usually don't have any problems like that. But these past days, I experienced not being able to sleep because I'm so excited about an idea, e.g. plans for the future. It's really weird. My sleep cycle was affected so I had to stop working for one day just to change it back.

Yes. That is why I don't like stress at all.

When I feel as stress, I will go to bathroom...And cry aloud....Because I don't like to show my grief to others....Or I will cry alone in some where else....After that,I wash my face....The another way I do to control my self is that sing songs....These can take off my grief... :-)

Cry aloud and cry alone. Ah. I know what you mean. I prefer to cry alone cause I don't others to see me. For some reason, it's easier for me to cry when I'm angry. Building up all anger and frustration inside turned out bad for me. I had a fit and destroyed my room. A little exaggerated but quite true. :)

I totally understand what you are doing. Like me, I also sleep my problems away. When I was in high school I was so depressed about my studies and my only love is too sleep my problems. I should be scared of doing nothing to finish my homework but instead I am so calm and sleep. After wake up I can do my homework then. You are normal really xoxo take care, ajpa23!

I had the same experience as you and it turned out really nicely for me. My other classmates had been so stressed with our studies that in the end, they gave up and some of them closed off. When it comes to studying, it's better to be relax.

Thinking about my problems stops me from sleeping. I tend to think of various solutions, weigh them and then search the internet for its feasibility (usually if the problem concerns finances or plans for the future). So, I have no time to sleep at all if I start thinking.

Thanks. I also drink milk before I go to bed but it's mostly a habit since childhood. I think you're quite an active person since you tend to convert the "extra" adrenaline from stress into other energy-consuming activities.

I just make myself busy like surfing in an internet, discuss here in mylot, eating, playing online games, etc. just to forget my problems even just in one day. Problems make you so stress and to avoid it, you need an enjoyment such as like hanging out with friends.

Having friends that you can talk to is nice. Though, I think my friends tend to pull me away from my problems and let me have some fun. It's both good and bad, if I think about it. But drowning myself in problems is definitely not the way to go. :)

I sleep mine away or try to as well. I also try to just let it out of my mind, do something else like listening to music and such. I don't handle stress very well, but have been working on that and have been able to deal with it better lately.

Good luck! My best friend also has the same problem. She can't handle stress that well but she's working on that. I'm seeing positive results so I hope you'll be able to do it as well.

I think that it's always a good idea to go to bed before you choose to make a really huge decision for yourself. When we have a lot of pressure on our shoulders to make a decision, we make choices which we might not make if we had been in a sense state of mind. If we allow ourselves to sleep, then we might find that we are able to make a much better choice for ourselves when we wake up again, as the facts will have had the chance to sort themselves out in our heads before we actually do anything about our choices.

Yes. Sleeping makes people calm and calm people make better decisions (most of the time). :D

I'm not a doctor but I think resting or sleeping may be good for people trying to cope with stress. It would really help calm yourself and freshen you mind so that you'd be able to think more clearly when you're about to tackle the problem that's causing you stress. That's how I also cope with stress :)

Good for us. After sleep, solutions may come easier and it also prevents your mind from tiring out because of over-thinking.

to cope with stress is very difficult. I do so solve all possible problems and then calm down and fall asleep never leave anything for tomorrow or the next day. solve problems at the moment because that stress comes from them and then just by itself relax. I know sometimes when to sleep as though we can not sleep because we wake up with terrible headaches, or even more tired and then we need a holiday. simply sought to clarify things about yourself and maybe help you. successful and enjoyable day!

Ah. That's also a good point. Solving the problem will calm you down and you don't need to think about it the next day (if it's not so serious). :) Thanks.

I hate stress, I'm a student preparing for my final exams next year which will determine my fate in university When I am stressed, I tend to exercise, it makes me feel so much more happier. Every time you exercise, the brain releases happy chemicals which makes you feeling better about yourself. That's why I exercise about an hour each day. I also tend to sleep too. When I just had a stressful day when I'm I'm feeling down, I just can't wait to sleep it through. So tend to sleep when I'm stressed, it makes me feel more calm and I always think of good things. There's no point if you're stressed out while trying to sleep. There's some people who are too stressed to even sleep, causing them to get baggy eyes. Music makes me feel a little better too. It's best to refer to healthy ways to relieve stress. Over eating or something similar is pretty bad.

Oh. So you have various ways to deal with the stresses in your life. That makes sense. I think in my case, my most dominant coping mechanism is to sleep it away. It usually depends on how serious the situation is.

If I would have those problems they would keep me out of my sleep. If I ignore them I will probably have the same dream time after time after time till the problem is over. I am a thinker so I think a lot, day and night, I am always busy and this will keep me out of my sleep too. So I write down what is in my mind or pops up (before I went out of bed but then I have no sleep at all and am broke next morning). Writing my thoughts down helps since I tell myself I will pay attention to it later. Next morning or in a week depends on the thought. I seldom have sleepless nights anymore because of money, had that for years, was counting for year. I still have sleepless nights, mostly because I am in a lot of pain. I feel so stressed and the nights are very long. It's hard to relax then but I always tell myself sooner or later I will be able to sleep again. It sounds easy/great to say sleep first then think but this is not possible for many of us. Mostly women are not able to fall a sleep if they have a lot of problems or after a fight. Men seem to be able to forget, fall asleep, and start all over next morning (even with a fight). Must be great if you are like that, starting your day full of energy.

Yes, that's right. There will be times that you need to act and solve the problem before you can relax or go to sleep. It's a sad truth.

We are opposite. When I am stressed I really can't sleep no matter how I try. That's the reason why I change career since I'm always stressed in my previous job. If for you that is effective and you are able to find a solution to your problem after napping then by all means, do it.

Yes, I understand. Hmm. Changing your career is also stressful, wasn't it? I think it would have taken you quite some time to decide what path to choose.
