I will try to approach this with the best of heart that I can.
Today, I saw that mylot had a peace sign, which is an upside cross as the symbol for religion.
I am sort of new to mylot and do not know how to contact them directly, so I will put it in a discusstion and if they want to delete it they can.
I find the peace symbol, which is an upside down cross not be an appropriate symbol for religion and would as them to change it, please. I ask this with all sincerity kindness and respect.

Hi FatCat,
Actually, your concerns are not unwarranted. I looked up the history as I had heard something about this a long time ago.
http://www.teachpeace.com/peacesymbolhistory.htm
The originator of this symbol requested it to be shown the other way with the arms reaching toward the sky and as you know, that was never carried out. The original meaning of it was a symbol for Nuclear Disarmment. I think mylot as well as most people these days who use the symbol mean it as a symbol of unity and peace. It does have a history though and if mylot werre to use it, I think flipping the other way at least might be more appropriate. Clearly Mylot is jusst trying to be inclusive of all religions worldwide hence the various symbols on the peace symbol.

An interesting article, Sid556, with rather more background than the one I found. However, it does reach the conclusion that Holtum was very much aware of the semaphore alphabet and, in fact, did base the symbol on that originally.
I did not know of the other associations of the 'broken armed cross' nor that Holtum had, apparently, begun with an attitude of a human in despair (but then quickly revised the symbolism) and that he expressed the desire to see the symbol inverted (when it could represent the letters "U" and "D").

Hi Owl,
I thought it was interesting too. I had looked it up a while ago when I had done up some incense burners with that symbol on them. I had only remembered being popular in the early 70's maybe late 60's. I thought it was just a symbol from the "Peace Love, Flower Power" era. A customer asked me if I knew the history of it. Obviously, I did not. He told me a bit about it and told me to look it up. I like Holtum's revised meaning and think his wish to have the symbol put on his grave stone reverted should still be honored. Either way, the originator did mean it to be a symbol of peace and I'm sure that is the spirit that Mylot is using it in. I've actually done a couple of burners with the symbol upside down. The first one was in error and before I knew this history and I kept it myself when someone pointed it out and picked on me for it...it still worked. The 2nd one was deliberate and a customer that picked on me ended up buying it because of the story.

It is time, I think. On either this link or another one I read, people were encouraged to spread the truth about this symbol. I think a lot of people probably don't know the history and if they did then they would flip their peace pins the other way.

I don't know. Although I'm not religious, I respect everyone's religion. Even though when I attempt to add my two cents to a religious topic, I'm either insulted, talked down to or ignored, I still approach all these topics with the upmost respect.
So believe me when I say I'm not making run of rock-star Jesus here. Because, to me, the peace sign doesn't look like a cross turned upside-down. If it resembles a "cross" at all, it's a cross to put a person's hands up over their head.
It's a celebration cross. Party Jesus.

The Peace symbol is not a cross at all. It was originally designed for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in the UK in 1958 and represents the letters "N" and "D" in semaphore (the code given by various positions of flags as held by a person), standing for 'Nuclear Disarmament'. The letters could as easily stand for 'No Dogma' or 'No Division' or whatever you choose, of course!

Yes. But upside-down party Jesus just seems cooler to me.

I agree with owlwings it is an adapted CND symbol plus various other religious symbols scattered around it. It is however only a pretty symbol I can't see why anyone should be bothered by it as it does not appear to be in any way offensive

This is a valid discussion; and as far as my understanding of the guidelines goes, there is nothing that violates the guidelines in this discussion. Don't worry about it being deleted. You are suggesting a change you would like to see at myLot. Nothing wrong in that.

Could it be because your religion taught you that the inverted cross is the sign of the anti-Christ? Is the cross really the sign of Christ as depicted by the Bible? Would God in the first place accept such sign for His Son when this reminds Him of the Jews' and Romans' cruelty to His Begotten?

Although the Peace symbol has sometimes been described as a 'broken cross' it is actually not (and wasn't ever intended to be). It is actually the letters "ND" in semaphore and has sometimes also been seen as a symbol for a rocket, perhaps with reference to the rockets used to carry nuclear warheads but, more potently, perhaps, because rockets carry things upwards. It can also be seen as a symbol for two hands joined in prayer and holding a candle. There are many images!

Is religion one of your interests? If so you can pick the avatar you want for religion. I use a beautiful royal blue Star of David. If you go to religions and add it as an interests at the top you can view all the photos under religion. if you find one you like you can use it. If not you can upload one and add it to the gallery And use it as your interest avatar.
