Hey buddy English is just a language and not a knowledge this should be your attitude towards learning any language, People say if u wanna learn a language fast move around with people who speak that language, but in your case your peer group is not speaking English so the alternate will be to read good newspapers and listen to good English news channels and to see English movies with subtitles at the early stage and later on u can avoid the subtitles. And one more thing to boost up your confidence just speak in front of the mirror at-least once a day speak in English. That's all u will master the language in quick time.

just take a paragraph from a news paper and do a news reader's job in front of the mirror that will do.

I agree with Nigildas. Practice speaking English in front of the mirror will make you more confident because you can check your pronounciation better. On the other hand, nobody will think that you're a bossy person because you speak English in front of them. Instead, you just... err... Talk to yourself. :D I often do that, too. And I think that's a great effort for practising spoken english..

You can chat online or on sites like MyLot to improve your writing. I also read a loot in English to maintain my level and improve my vocabulary. For listening, I would suggest to watch movies without subtitles and soon you will understant everything. If it's difficult in the beginning, you can start with the english subtitles and when you feel ready remove the subs and you will see a significant difference after a while.

I am watching all the movies with VLC media player, it's a free program and you have the option to load subtitles seperately when you watch the movie. So if I have a TV series with no subs, I usually find good english subs at tvsubtitles.net For movies you can search online for "the movie title" english subs, there are many different websites and you can choose the one that has the best comments. I hope it helps :)

Just take easy. It is good that you have the idea to practise oral English. If no one around you speak English, then try to watch some English movies and TV shows, follow them. You can also find some language training centers. You'll have the chance to practise your English there. However, the language learning is a process. You need to keep practising and practising and you will see the improvement. Good luck to you!

About the training centers ,I think they charge me a lot for training . That mean I must pay a lot of money but I can not afford it . But thank you . You really help a lot recent days . I can not help but pay my attention on you .

oral English? it is the first time I hear this expression. Well it's easy: listen to songs, write down the text, say them out loud. Listen to the BBC and you hear great english. There are online dictonaries who will say the word too so you can hear how it sounds and how to pronounce it. There are also English lessons for free which you can find on the internet. It depends on your own language how hard it will be to say/pronounce the words right. To have a discussion you need to know a lot of words first (grammar is useless if you have a lack of vocubulaire). And practise (read, listen, say it out loud, just repeat) it every day. Better 10 times a day 5-10 minutes as once a week an hour or two. Also keep in mind that a native speaker is not learning his language within 1 year, it takes years. The same way you learned your own language. So don't get disappointed if it's not always going as fast as you have in mind.

You do not call that oral english ?? Yes , you are right . I want to practice listen and speak . hmm ,vocabulary is very important but I have a bad memory , so that's hard for me . You said BBC ,can you tell me how I can hear that channel ??? Thank you .

If you want to learn listening BBC or VOA is good starting point. For BBC, if you are not in UK, you can use several method: 1. Using short-wave radio, and try to find the channel (Googling it.) 2. If you are using Android, you can use Andro Radio 3. Or just go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/ to find out more. Speaking... I also have difficulty to practice. Once live on abroad, but still if we do not use it, we will loose our ability, especially the vocabulary.

Spoken english improves with listening to songs. Atleast that's what I believe. I also watch a lot of shows based in english and that helps too.

Yes , I find it can help me a lot . I should try more . Thank you .

I would recommend trying programs like Rosetta Stone, this way it will be easier for you to learn the meaning of new words and you wil learn phrases to repeat and the proper way to pronounce the English words. By working on the writing aspect of English you will also gain a better understanding of grammar, so I would also continue working on sites such as MyLot so you writing skills get stronger, which will make speaking the language a great deal easier.
18 Nov 11
Rosetta Stone ? Is this a TV show ? I never heared about it maybe we are in diffirent countries . The thing I must agree is that website like mylot is helpful . Otherwise ,we do have limit time ,how can we use this for studying and work ,That's another important problem . Thank you .

Rosetta Stone is a computer software program you can order online. Its designed to teach you a foreign language quickly. It begins by teaching you basic phrases and sentences that are common, and gets more complex from there. It also uses the sound system on your computer to help yoi learn the correct ways to pronounce the words.

Hi Leon... Judging by your writing, I think your English is quite very well and you don't need a lot of practice. And yet, if you need to, then myLot is a good choice. You can also join a university where there a lot of English speaking fellows.. I did the same. Before 11 years, I joined Pune university where everyone spoke English only... That way, I improved myself... Good Luck to you!
18 Nov 11
Oh ,I must say that that's not working on me because I just graduate from university . Anayway ,thank you for your kind-hearted proposal.

I still think conversing in English is the best way to practice and improve English, orally or written. But seeing that your friend or friends do not speak English either, I guess you just have to make do with other ways like watching TV programs aired in English. There are also sites you can visit that helps people speak English, some of them have audio pronunciation of the words. And you're doing the right thing also in participating in myLot discussions. You can harness your written English here as well :)

When I join in this community I find my english is not good enough .And that's why I want to improve it . Thanks to the people like you can give me so many ways . I think I must try harder and harder then I can talk with you guys as I want .

You could watch lots of American movies, so you will know how to properly pronounce words. And you can also buy a book for pronunciation- there are lots of them easily available.. And read American books aloud too.

There some sites online for ESL where you can practice your reading listening and english personhe so you listend and get the right pronunciation, I don't the name of the site but I found it yesterday when I was doing homework with my son, you may type ESL activities. You can watch TV an english and never on you own language, that is the way that the children learn there are children that before to reach the age to enter to school have achieve a lot of vocabulary because the TV shows in english teach them, eventhought they have parents that don't speak english at all. One friend of mine told me that a good exercise for the tongue is talk with a pencil under the tongue so you speak english or read with that and your accent will become more natural when speak english.

Ok ,as a mother , your suggestions should be reasonable . My parents only know our local english , in school we speak english only in class and not fluently . By now , I want to improve this into a high class because my job need this . Thank you Rosa~~~

I think watching tv shows and movies who are in the english language could help a lot, I also recommend reading a good book, and you should have a dictionary with you so that If you would encounter words that you couldnt understand, you could simply look for the meaning and this will become an addition to your vocabulary.
17 Nov 11
Yes ,that's request a good memory . all right ,let me try ,thank you !!!!!

You can practice english by reading news/poems/articles or even try to watch educational english programs or sing a song in that way you can practice your pronunciation. You can also download english audio files.
