want to know what's web hosting

hi mylotters..i'm sure different people are here in mylot..
so guys..i want to know about web hosting..what is it for?there are so many companies now that offers web hosting services..can't it be done at home, if you want to run your own sites?
hope you can help me guys..i want to know more about it...especially if there are types of it and if it is possible to be done at home only..

Hosting is what makes it possible for a website to be online. For example, myLot has a host, and that host is holding the pages of this website. Hosting can be done from your home, but you will need to purchase a server, or pay fees to a company who will manage one for you.

no no
if your site is not big, you don't need a server yet.
But pay a few buck per month for rend a shared hosting,
Which is very enough for a site even 50 people concurrent.
If you site become much big then pay around 20 per month for VPS
If that still not enough... you must have a very big website,
that you should rent a server at that case!

if you run it at home,
then you need to make sure
1. you have fixed IP instead of dynamic one, i.e. every time you re-connected to the internet, your ISP give you the same IP
2. make sure you home will not our of electricity that your website can be on 24/7
3. you are technically able to maintain web server and update when needed to block the loophole to avoid attack.

in my personal openinon i think.web hosting means creating a website by your own ,..for doing this ,.. you need to register your host id before the isp (internet service provider) they will create you a web site ...it is costly..
