I am just now watching a cookery show and they are making some nice chicken dishes. Half the ingredients mentioned are not available nearby. But I have liked a few recipes and am wondering whether I should try them out.
Have you tried out any recipes that you have seen on television or on the net. What was the outcome. Yummy or terrible?

I do not cook in our house. My wife watches cookery shows--We are vegetarians. In spite of it she will watch non vegetarian cooking shows also--substitute vegetables in place of non vegetarian pieces.
sometimes it use to come out very well.

Interesting. I can see the point in your mind. Probably your husband also doesn't help you in cooking!!yes. paneer can be substituted for some dishes. Also brinjal in place of fish or potato in place of chicken may make it tasty.

I hate cooking but everyone likes my food which is bad because then I have to cook. When my hubby had proposed to me 24 yrs ago the first think I told him is that I will not cook at home. Since we were living in a joint family then with his parents it was okay as his mother loved cooking. I do take hints from recipes that I read in books or on the net and make my own concoction after that!!!

Very interesting indeed -- motherin law watching God serials. Daughter in law -- you can have another tv and watch cookery shows--(just joking--I suggest having only one tv in every house because cooperation will come among people in a house only then). After watching cookery shows you can try , remembering the ingredients or note down in a note book and try. I am sure you also make only vegetarian dishes in your house.good day.

Hello myka, I love to watch cookery shows and if the dishes they show are vegetarian (I don't eat meat) and require ingredients that I already have in my kitchen, I do try them out. Sometimes, I like to substitute an ingredient or two to make my own version and most times, I have managed to turn out a really good dish. :)

I am a vegetarian during the week and non vegetarian on weekends. That is because I prefer carrying a vegetarian meal to Office. I am thinking of trying out a few dishes at home and just hope they turn out well. And anyway since I live alone there is no one to critize my cooking!!!

I haven't really tried television recipes lately but I have done it in the past and the outcome was very good.
I try recipes from books and magazines alot more often though and so far I have always been satisfied with the results.I haven't cooked anything in a very long time.Maybe I should do it soon! :)

I first learnt my cooking only from recipes that I got from magazines. The outcome was not too good in the beginning because I did not know the basics of cooking then. Now that I can cook quite good even though I am a lazy cook my experiments with receipes borrowed from television or internet come quite well.

Hi there!
I feel many recipes which are shown are not workable in a normal house of ours. They use expensive and high end ingredients to make their dishes tastier. On TV screen every thing looks rosy and very attractive. However, I understand when somebody actually tries to cook a dish as per the TV recipes, she find that it is altogether different ball game.

I have tried a few recipes and gotten a lot of ideas from both cooking show on television as well as on the net. Most of what I have done has come out well, some of them actually becoming part of the basic recipes I make. There are lots of things that I would like to try out but don't have the necessary skill. I don't love to cook, I do enjoy it, at I really like watching people that do it well.

Glad to know that I am not the only one who does not like cooking. I liked someone cooking for me and serving it on the table. I hate cooking but have to do so because there is no one to cook for me and I do not like to keep a servant to cook. I too take a lot of ideas from recipes in magazines and now cookery shows on television have not exactly tried out any recipe seen on television.

Thats funny Mayka because I don't like to eat what I cook. When it comes from someone else I think everything tastes so much better. I cook because I like too yes BUT not all the time. I try to only cook 3-4 times a week. I pray the roomate will help out the other but most of the time NOT. I don't like to feel obligated to make something if that isn't wierd. I want to cook because I want too. As a parent I know I have to one way or another and always did when the kid's were little. But now that they are teens I totally use the "your big enough to make something" excuse as much as I can haha.. We might only get mac n cheese that night but it's something haha.

I am lazy. I like eating. So I like to make friends with people who love cooking. You see, I always get sample of their cooking. lol
But I've had problems as well. There is an aunt who is terrible cook, but she thinks she is great. Cant hurt her because she is angelic in all other ways. So whatever she makes gets into tummy through that buccal cavity.
I agree with you though - some ingredients are tough to get. I have another problem, they mention that you should let it come to boil or let it get cooked. The problem is by the time it comes to boil, Vandy's mind gets engrossed in something else and by the time it gets cooked - it can become black.
Of course that is exaggeration - but I am pretty close to that.
I'd rather they tell you - now start this song - and pour water. When the song ends, your dish would be ready. You know - perpetual alarms..lol

I am just now sitting all alone in my room and laughing aloud just reading your responnse. If anyone peeps in through the window - am on the ground floor and my window is just now open - people will think I have gone nuts... living all alone and laughing like this ... My hubby was an expert in burning food. In fact the vessel would very often turn out of shape with the heat of the gas. And I would end up giving the vessel to the bhangarwala. I dont think you are so bad. I may be able to get the ingredients in the big malls. But who will take the trouble of going there for one ingredient for one dish and that too for one person. BTW I have never burnt my food. So I can say I am better than you in cooking. Got my first assignment and am doing it now.

You cleared the test? Wow!!! All the best about assignment. Hope you got the bargain I'd suggested.
Well..it is true you know..dynamic personalities burn food, and vessels..we have so many things that interest us.
I can still manage I think..if you ever decide to visit me. Nothing extraordinary. But I make great Sambhar and Idli. And Rajma curry. Patented. I can start an eatery with those three. I get those dishes when there is pot luck. I also make good curds. Rest ..average.

Every now and then I do. I discovered a great dish that was on one of the cooking shows and I loved it. It was made with spaghetti noodles, bacon, and some other stuff.. I can't remember now but it was REALLY good!

I've got it written down somewhere, but I don't know where I put it...lol. I basically know what to put in it.. I think it is just boil the pasta, cook the bacon until it is crispy and break it up... whip up an egg with parmasam cheese, and then take the pasta out of the water and drain it, but don't rinse it.. then put back in the pan and add the egg and cheese mixture and stir it in. The heat from the spaghetti will cook the egg right on the noodles.. and then add the bacon to it and stir it in. That's about it.. there might be other seasonings, but I don't remember. I forget what it is called.

Hi , i do love watching cookery shows and i also try them in my kitchen all the vegetarian newbie. Even my husband loves to learn new recipes and without making much delay he cooks them too. Even i like to read the kitchen tips on newspapers and magazines. I think it is better to try and implement new flavor as sometime we are bored with the traditional dishes or the seasonal ones. I really make sure all the ingredients are available in the kitchen. Since my husband is a good cook, we usually store the 'common ingredients' for making any vegetarian item. That make it easy to try so. Yes, once he made cutlets (made with semolina and curd) for evening tea which he learned (the the afternoon) from the 1 minute recipe show on TV of a popular South Indian Channel.

It is nice to have a hubby to loves to cook. When my hubby was there he too would love to cook and keep the food ready for me when I came from work. At times he would try out a recipe and if it turned out bad it would go into the dustbin before I came back. I would come to know about it only a few days later.

He must be calling you to warn you not to share your food with your friends because there is some problem with it. It shows how caring he is. Since he had warned you so you had an opportunity to buy the curds and eat with your food. Isnt that thoughtful of him.

ok. u know the problem, since he is a good cook than me, he never bothers to appreciate daily / on a new dish etc. but if there's a mistake then he will call me on phone and tell me the problem. Last week he called during our lunch hour in office and he checked if I had lunch or not. In fact we 5 colleagues together have lunch (usually we carry lunch box from home i.e. home cooked) and my friends thought he's calling me out for lunch but he told me the dish was too salty and he had to mix curd to remake it. LOL.

That is funny you ask because just last night I made ranch dip pork chops which is a recipe I saw on a tv commercial for Ranch Dip. YUMMIE were they good and I will make them this way often.
I think getting ideas off of TV is more in line w/what I do. I don't always catch the entire recipe so often have to look it up online also. But I do get some awesome ideas & inspirations from what I see on TV.

Yes we do get a lot of inspiration from what we watch on television. After starting this discussion I have seen a lot of cookery shows and have picked up quite a few ideas. I just wish we could exchange recipes on this site they may be we would be able to get a lot of awesome ideas from other countries too.

I have tried a lot of recipes I've seen on the net. I don't actually know how to cook before and I'm always afraid to try coz I might waste those ingredients. But I was away with my family for some time that I have forced myself to learn how to. And thankfully I made it. They taste yummy although there were some who didn't go so well

I try few of the recipes I see on TV but I get good ideas from my favorites shows and chefs. I donĀ“t see all the cookery shows they have on TV. Two years ago, I even learnt how to make sushi by following a show for some time. I have made it for friends and they love it.

I would definitely encourage you to try out some of the recipes on these cooking shows. I have done it several times now with deserts and main dishes. Every time I have done this they turned out GREAT! So when you get a chance try one out. I usually find the recipe they did online on that cooking shows website so I will not be trying to remember the recipe. Happy Mylotting!

Its good to know that your experiments with recipes that you see on television come out great. Do you try out the recipes exactly as it is shown on television or do you make your own changes. I was just trying to figure whether I can do it exactly as shown or do I have to make my own changes to the recipes.

I usually just stick with the recipe as it was on the TV. The only time I usually change it is if I do not have one fo the things that it is calling for and I will supplement it with something else. I may have to try changing up one of the recipes some time and see how it turns out!

I watch cookery shows and think that I will try some of the recipes out but never have. Much more often look up recipes off the internet.
Last night I had an idea of doing corned beef hash because we managed to get some corned beef cheap. Looking for a different way than I would normally use. Found a recipe and it turned out great more flavour than usual.

I love to make tea, now without sugar to keep my figure...but if I'm making tea for family, I add sugar...and I make good omelets, and I cook rice...and I want to limit at that, else my wife who is a good cook, would offload all the cooking on me. I wouldnt mind doing that, but then she would become fatter and fatter and fatter...she would love my cooking (at least) and would have no exercise at all.
