I started not feeling well last night. Thought if I get enough sleep I'd be alright. Well I've been in and out of the bathroom since 2am. Here's the hard part I work retail and in the US it's "Black Friday" the busiest shopping day of the year. It's also the one day of the year our boss pretty much says you can't call in. I don't mind working it I would just like to be healthy enough to stay out of the bathroom for more than an hour or so. As I know I won't be able to get to the bathroom with my position at work. I was thinking of running and getting some imodium, as I know that works. But the question is... will it make me sicker? I have one of those systems where if my body says get it it out it will do just that and if I "stop" this I may end up sicker as it'll probably build up in me further because of the imodium causes constipation. Which is kinda what I want it to do. I can't afford to miss work & I have to be at work in 4 hrs!

Well, if you need to go to work in four hours I guess you really need imodium. And if it make you sicker then just deal with it after your work. At least you were able to go to work and after the Black Friday, you can just call in, right?
And don't forget to drink a lot of water and gatorade.
Good luck and hope you will feel better and get back to work.

I will empty out the other end if it comes to it. I have a very slow digestion so I have to be careful cause what goes in today may not surface for some time. Imodium will stop me up and I can't be fully stopped up or I'll get sick from both ends.

I usually am backed up as well. And if I don't go regular I'm in the same shoes I am now except I'm not puking, as when I'm sick from constipation it comes out both ends!

Get the Immodium, definitely. It won't make you sicker. I can see why your boss would have a no-call-in policy but he'll never believe your problem. I hope your day isn't bad and the stuff works.

I used pepto instead and I did make it. I was able to hold out until my breaks to vacation in the bathroom! *LOL* The one that was there was going to let me go home but unfortunaly I live in the world of Mom doesn't work we don't eat, so I stuck it out and glad I did.

It seems as though not many things could be worse than being sick on a day that you can't call in. When someone tells me I can't do something, my mind and body react to that. So I am really sorry that you are not feeling well on such a busy shopping day. You might have a stomach virus and Immodium will help, but it is best to let the virus run it's course. Maybe what you can do is go into work and then after some time, tell your boss that you are not feeling well and that you need to go home. That way you at least made the attempt to work. I understand that it is a busy shopping day, but it really ticks me off that bosses don't take things that are not in our control into consideration. When you are sick, your body is saying "Hey, it's time to rest." I wish you the best in whatever decision you decide to make and I hope you feel better SOON.

If I could afford to let things work themselves thru I would. I was thinking of going in and saying I wasn't feeling well and work as long as I could. I'm sure they do this so they don't think we are out shopping instead of working, trust me I need to work!

I was able to work my shift just kept my mind off of it and took care of things on my breaks. It's not like I have sick time nor was I in any discomfort just the pressure that says ya gotta go KWIM? But in my house I don't work we don't eat.

I definitely understand about being able to afford to NOT have to go to work. Illnesses come at the worst times and it's not like you can plan when you are going to be sick. What did you finally decide to do yesterday? I hope you were able to rest at some point.

Plain black tea without sugar and milk helps in such situations. Also take electoral that will balance your electrolytes and revitalise you.

I know you work in retail and have those inflexible rules. I hope you got the immodium, the other suggestion I will make is ginger ale in situations like this can be helpful. Also drink jello that is dissolved with twice the water will sometimes stop loose bowels. Just do not use the red. I am told it will irritate and can give the appearance of blood.

You should try some peppermint tea, or ideally Eater's Digest tea by Traditional Medicinals. It has several digestive aids in it and it always helps my tummy. I have IBS so I have lots of digestive problems. Sucking on peppermints help but when that doesn't work the tea does.
Hope you feel better.

Well, I would have gone for the Immodium for the fact that you are having to go to the bathroom really frequently. Another thing that I would do is to make sure that you have some peppermint with you so that you can suck on those. Peppermint is one of those things that will go a long way toward calming an upset stomach.
I'd always thought that peppermint helped, but didn't know that it worked for everyone until Tom started sucking on peppermints for a few days after his chemo treatments to keep his stomach calm.

That's really tough! I think it's better for you to go and get Imodium. I don't think it can cause constipation at all. Well, maybe it has a strange effect on you. But what's important is that once you take Imodium it will stop you from going in and out of the bathroom, right? You can deal with constipation later. And if constipation starts I would suggest you to drink more water or eat some papaya. Not sure if you know it but you can try searching it on the internet just so you have an idea how it looks. I am sure it's there in your country too.
