Homeless on the Holidays

It's always sad to me seeing homeless people with their signs begging for money or food.
I'm sure some of them choose that life style but there are lots of homeless people that didn't choose to be out in the cold hungry and lonely.
It makes me even more sad around the Holiday Season.....Everywhere I look I see lonely homeless people standing on corners trying to get a dime from passer byes.
So be it if they want to buy beer with it....if that's all they got left in Life then so be it.
I'm always a little more depressed in the winter than summer, WHY?

It sad to see so many people homeless in this world and like you said a lot of these people don't choose to be homeless. There's a lot more now then before especially with the economy and unemployment being it at its lowest, there a lot of people in this situation. Just the other night while I was driving home with my family, we drove by a car, which was packed with cloths and two small kids were sleeping in the back sit while the parents slept in the front. The father was being the look out. The following night I saw the same car again with the same people and I felt so bad and the sad part of it is that I never saw them asking for money.
But it is sad and it is especially sad during the holidays. I guess like they say it is the time for giving and it hits especially in the heart during the X-mas Season.

That's so sad especially when kids are involved...at least they did have a car.

It is sad to say the least when one sees people struggling whether it is by their choice or by the economy. What is even more scary is the thought that it could happen to anyone of us at sometime in our lives. Especially if things should get any worse. I agree with you what they spend that dime on is their business, who are we to judge. Bess not to judge until we have walked in their footsteps.
Excellent topic.
Have a nice day.

I haven't been working since 06, there just is nothing around here. Our area was hit real hard when this economy took a plunge. We do worry that the hubby could lose his job. We use to raise animals on a contract and that wasn't renewed almost 4 years ago because of the economy. Needless to say that took care of the finances, and life became very difficult. Hopefully things will turn around, but it doesn't sound like it will be anytime to soon.

We see it more in the bigger towns, but I do feel sorry for them and wish I could help them all. I think that empty buildings should be given to those in need if they so wish to use them to stay warm and be able to eat..I know areas in Kentucky that has tons of old buildings just being empty and useless when they could help families and others.

That would be nice but I think there is a safety issue letting people live in abandoned buildings

It is true that it's really sad to see people who are homeless for the holidays. I do feel sorry for those, who find themselves in this situation. I feel so lucky that I do have a home. It's really important to have a home around this time of the year. At least, I think that it is.

You are right,i also have such feelings what can we do for them. In one side people enjoying the life lavishly in another side some are staving for life, why this happens. The government have to take some solutions to help the homeless people and to give them some shutter even in the winter.

Hopefully some of them are able to pull out of this horrible situation, it only takes 1 good person to change their lives

It is autumn in my home country and the weather is quite cold at the moment. Therefore I feel very sorry for the homeless people living in cardboard boxes and asking for any lose change. They are cold and lonely whilst more lucky in life people walk past them. Many homeless people have a pet dog which are not permitted in homeless hostels.
I visited California and in LA I was surprised to see the huge number of homeless people. I know in the recession many American people have lost their home which is very sad. My home country and America are developed countries so it is shocking there are such unfortunate people. A person needs a home to get a job: rented or owned. A person needs a home to get a bank account. The situation for homeless people in a developing country could be hunger, thirst, illness and in some cases danger.

Here in Vegas we have lots of homeless people.
We do have some shelters but they are so over crowded.
They also have a place were people live in tents.
Now that it's getting cold I really feel bad, if I have loose change I give it but sometimes even I struggle.

You have a kind heart. Always pity for the poor ones. Like me, I give out some money to the beggars who collect cans on the streets and I feel contented after doing so like I do something big but it wasn't.

Winter has a way of bringing me down too. It really is sad that there is so much suffering. Last year I saw a homeless guy with a sign that said Will work for food. He was right at the entrance to a Walmart. There were people leaving with tons of stuff...just passing him by...it made me sad. I went to the Little Ceasars and bought two hot and ready pizzas and a 2-liter of Sunkist. My little one was looking at me like I was crazy and I took it over to that man. Give it to him without a word and when I was walking away he asked what work he could do. I just smiled and said..nothing...just enjoy it. My daughter said I was an angel..lol....imagine that..me an angel

That was very sweet of you and little Ceasars Pizzas are good.
They have 1 right by my bus stop and I always want to go and get 1 for dinner but I couldn't handle smelling it all the way home on the bus, i probably would eat half before I get there

I could understand why you get sad, and feel sorry for the people who are stranded outside in the cold, with no warm homes and families to be a part of!
It is very saddening, so I'm going to do my part to donate some money to at least a nice portion of the homeless people I see at stop lights or gas stations so that they may provide themselves with some gift, maybe it being a hot beverage or something I don't want to know of!
Its just insanely cold outside, and I'm in the house myLotting and I'm freezing so I can't imagine the torture it must be outside!
I hope that God blesses the less fortunate, especially the one's who are generous and happy even when they are homeless!
