I know this may sound like a rant but I am really frustrated as my hubby told me that filing the birth certificate for our son will take 4 months to complete the process, I said huwaaattttt???
What if I wanted to apply my child passport and go back to my country this December? that means I needed to hold on and wait for 4 freaking months just to get my child out of this country?
Is there anyone here who could enlighten me how your birth registration works? I wanted to file that birth certificate in my country's embassy and also apply passport but this birth certificate thing is going to take long, what can I do?

Hi strawberrychocodahi, I can understand your frustration. I have experienced first hand about Birth Registration. If you want, add me as a friend and send me pm. I will try to help you in whichever way I know how.
OK, that is ridiculous. 4 Months for Birth Registration, that is not right. It tool about 2-4 weeks. The hospital where you gave birth should be able to tell you which office you need to go to. When I had my daughter, the hospital told me the address of the Registrar and told me to go there after 2 weeks. Don't ask me about 2 weeks, noone can tell me why it took 2 weeks to bring the papers to an office 5 kilometers from the hospital. From then, they told me to go to Municipal Office where I pay the fees and ultimately collect the Birth Certificate.
Second, you cannot register with your country's embassy directly without the local birth certificate, well,at least not with the British Embassy. They asked for Local Birth Certificate. You can apply for the Birth Certificate and the Passport at the same time, that will save a bit of time. Again, I am talking about my experience with British Embassy. Your embassy may have different rule.
OK, deep breath, calm down and if you have any question, I will try my best to answer them. I am sorry you have a bad experience with our country.

Hi Zralte, actually it was really 4 months here in Mumbai, I don't know about the other state. I have my PIO card so I can stay here in India for 15 years. I gave birth and I thought it was easy for me to get my son's birth certificate registered so that I can also apply a passport and file a copy at my country's embassy for his birth record. Guess that I cannot do anything but to wait

It happens only in India. Every certificates take more than one months in India due to corrupted system. Your hubby was informed right but usually it does not take that too much time. As far the issue of birth certificate is concern, it should not take more than a week. But it takes a long period for said corruption. You have three ways now....
1. search a native mylotter/friend who is so close to that office/hospital.
2. offer some bribe to the officers
3. Come here to my province, i will take only three days for the certificate. ( if its possible from your side)
have a nice time and so sorry that a foreigner is in trouble in my land. take care.

Probably Shibham your system isn't even computerized in database that is why its taking so much time. No I won't opt for bribery, and can't consider no. 3 also. About solution no.1, what's the use? it wont make the process faster.

I appreciate it my friend, but to go for help asking Anna Hazare is not on my menu. Mumbai is far from where you are so I cannot also do register that to any state in India. May God just help me with this one.
