fluff and saw a paper wasp nest. This thing was really big. I've only seen small ones on my property. Glad I didn't run into this thing when the leaves were still out. If I had run into it, I'd probably be dead.
My brother said that how far off the ground a bee's nest is indicates how much snow we will get. Wrong. We had 4 inches of snow last week and it's only a couple inches off the ground. One year I saw them start to build in the eves of our barn. That was around 8 feet high and we didn't get anywhere near that amount.
I love our unseasonabley warm weather. So how is the weather where you are? Are you able to get outside and enjoy it? What stories have you heard like my brother's that are for predicting future weather or events that you've seen disproved? Do you go outdoors and collect anything?

I learned something new with the bee's nest you just mentioned, I never heard of it (probably because I came from a country with an 80 degrees temperature all year long) but now in where I currently reside, since fall started September of this year, temperature is always from 20-40s and for me, this just the taste of winter. I miss being outside to feel the warmth from the sun but even if we have sunny skies sometimes, its still freaking cold.

You don't know what "freaking cold" is until you've had minus 30 below with a 30 mile per hour wind for 6 weeks. We get seriously cold up here. I long for the years when sub-zero was just for 1 to 3 days at the max. 2 weeks is getting to be the norm up here.

the weather here in Kuwait is somewhat cold, I am wearing jacket while I am setting in the home. I know it will never reach to the cold degrees you have and will never see snow here, but from the total period when its actually really hot 10-15c is considered really cold but we can move freely outside, when I was living in Jordan and at the time when it snow we couldn't really get out even to play with snow so I know what you are talking about here. have a great day writersedge.

I've heard about the sand storms. I would probably never make it through one of those. My husband was in Saudi Arabia. He served during the Gulf War. He was there during the Kuwait oil fires. What we have compared to what you have gone through is nothing. You have gone through so much more. My husband liked the Saudi Arabian people he met on base. Kind and polite.
I was also friends with an Iranian young lady during the Iranian Crisis. She was here to go to college. She could not go home again. She was really nice and I often wonder what has happened since I left college. I think we need to hear from people from all parts of the world here. I know that I do not know much about what is going on beyond where I live.
Hope to here more from you. Take care.

You also have a nice day. I haven't heard from anyone in Kuwait since I went to collega with a friend whose parents worked there. We have to have a foot of snow or 6 inches faster than the plows can go for us to consider that we can't get out. But we have so many ways of dealing with our weather that people who only get a storm once in a great while would not invest in. We had 8 feet one weekend when I was a kid.
Anyway, I didn't know Jordon had any snow ever and it's wonderful to hear from someone from Kuwait again.
Thanks for joining Mylot and for responding. Much appreciated. Take care.

Thanks writersedge for your reply and nice comment, well as for Jordan there is snow from while to while it's now communing each year but you can say each three years there will be a good amount of snow but not to the volume you are talking about. Anyway it's a great experience to have snow but I think you will never have it in Kuwait or you can say we have another type of snow in Kuwait which is a snow of sands. Thanks again.

I always heard that the amount of fuzz on a fuzzy wuzzy caterpillar predicted the winter, but I do not really know of any others. I am getting to be outdoors, need to do some yard work, and get some Christmas things out of my shed. It does invigorate to be out and in the sun. What do you do with milkweed fluff?

I've heard the caterpillar prediction, too. But I've seen two catepillars with opposite predictions as far as the ratio of brown to black.
Milk weed fluff:
Fire tinder
blue onto paper for artwork with kids
filler for behind single layer of gauze for soaking up blood bandage
New thing I may try to weave a little in with the weavings I've been doing, but I haven't figured out how.
wish I had gotten to the bods before they started getting moldy. They can be painted poinsettia colored and made like a flower, gold and silver colored and made into stars, etc.

I need to go out and pick up dog poop, but I have been going out to my craft shed and wrapping Christmas presents today.
I've only just started, but I've gotten the 5 largest ones done.
I'm pretty stingy with paper so I used the part I don't use on the roll to wrap smaller presents and I've done about 11 or 12 presents in all.
But that doesn't count the time I spent pulling them out, sorting them and pulling off prices. Tomorrow I would like to get the rest of them wrapped so I have space to work on the sewing projects I need to do.

The weather here is in the mid 40's during the day and the mid 30's or lower at night. With the wind some days it is colder. Sounds like ole wive's tales in the bee's nest thing. I had never heard that before. We had a nice Cheyenne Autumn as we quite often do.

hello friend, coming from a country that has fairly good weather ( though sometimes too hot or has typhoons), I always love walking out door. My eldest son use to be very weak and lanky when he was a child, so I made the effort to walk him to school everyday instead of taking the car, I saw great improvements and now he is a very athletic kid at age 15, I told him lots of stories while walking especially along grass pathways and taught him how to observe nature, but we never took anything, except frogs that I told them would control insect population, we all released them to multiply in the garden later

You are a wonderful parent! So many people would have driven him or felt sorry for him. Instead you gave him everything, strength, stamina, athletism, stories, appreciation of nature, etc. You're terrific! Hope other people read this and that you start a discussion about this.

Ny brothers took a long time to become strong and healthy, too. People picked on them until puberty. Then my brothers became bigger and stronger than they are.

ah yes, I just hated how all the other kids would make fun of him when he was very young cause he could not keep up with them in kids games, I always knew that nature had some answers, well now he just earned his second belt on 2 martial arts disciplines, at 5 feet 10 inches tall ( taller than the average Filipino), he's bigger than I am, he also plays chess, badminton, and swims and I'm sure he can now give he's grade school friends a run for their money , but I think more important I teach him humility, to be humble and accept defeat when it comes and not to forget his studies to get good grades, cause at the end of the day, it's what counts

It really was a nice day yesterday. I was enjoying being outside. I think it reached 67 degrees here. The weather has been wacky so far. Today we are getting a bunch of rain. I still don't mind though. It is better than snow to me. I really don't like the winter time.

It was pre-rain most of today, so I was pretty achy. But yesterday was incredible. I don't mind snow as long as I don't have to drive in it. Dampness bothers my arthritis. Glad you were able to go out into the sunshine yesterday, too. 67 degrees is amazing for Nov. Thanks for responding and take care.

There is a fuzzy caterpillar here that is supposed to predict our winter by it's color. If it has alot of black, I think, it is supposed to be a bad winter...more brown means mild..lol...I have never seen a real relation either.
It is starting to get pretty cold here now. It has been unseasonably warm before though. I have never seen it stay warm as long as it did this year. We had some sleet today but so far that has been the worst of our winter weather.

I saw two fuzzy catepillars in one day and they contridicted each other. So who knows which one was right.
It would be something if we didn't have winter until the actual winter solstice, but I don't think it will hold out that long. It's pretty nippy today!

glad you are having some warm days. I enjoy it when it is warm also. Today it is cold. It's down in the 50s right now. It rained a lot yesterday. I'm glad the wasps and bees are gone for now. I'm allergic to wasps.

Yes, allergies do tend to make a person dislike something and with good reason. Damp today. My hands are freezing just typing this.
