Hi, Mylotters! I think not many people here know about durian. Durian is a tropical fruit and it becomes favorite in my country, Indonesia. This fruit has strong aroma and it contains alcohol so the taste is little bitter. I really like this fruit cos for me the taste is so unique but delicious. In Indonesia, durian season comes once in a year from November to January. This fruit prices quite expensive. We should pay Rp. 15,000-35,000 each..(it is about $2-$4). But, I ever heard that durian is forbidden to bring in public place in Western country due to it strong aroma. And almost all Western people hate this fruit.. What about you people, have you ever tasted durian before, and what do you think about the taste? Let's share..

Durian is one of my favorite fruit. Its not Durian season here at the moment but there are few on the market but it is sold expensive when its not in season. Anyway i love durian and my family loves it too. Yes its true that some people don't like it because of its foul and strong smell but it taste good. Here we have the saying for that. The fruit that smell like hell but it taste like heaven. I love it on an ice cream. A durian flavor ice cream really delicious.

I like people in your place said about durian: fruit smells like hell but tastes like heaven! It's cool..LOL..I never heard that saying before but I totally agree with it. but I don't bother at all with it smell cos for me it smell is just as nice as it taste..LOL..in my place, durian also uses as one of drink ingredients. drink wit durian on it tastes so delicious but the price is rather expensive..even in some parts of my country, durian is used as on of food ingredients. they call it "tempoyak", it's a kind of seasoning. durian is being fermented first then after sometimes, they use it as seasoning for their sea food culinary..but I don't know whether it is delicious or not cos I never tried it before..:)

Hi, there... Why haven't you tasted fresh durian before? Is it difficult to find durian there? I mean world today is like has no boundaries so it's not difficult to find foreign things such as imported fruits. Maybe durian doesn't grow in Davao but it must be there's one place there where durian sold, rite? LOL... You should taste durian someday cos the taste is unique and it's also delicious as the ingredient of fruit punch...:)

Hi, Anilo..you're right about special fruit belongs to every country. as a tropical country Indonesia has a wide variety of fruits. we have kind of fruit which produces fruits along the year like banana, pineapple or guava. and we also have fruit which produces fruit once in a year like durian, mango and rambutan. actually I want to add image for this discussion to show people like you who never known about durian before, but I couldn't do it cos I don't know how to add image in a discussion. LOL. I don't know that there's no durian in India, maybe Indonesia doesn't export it to India due to the smell and India doesn't want to import it cos no Indian people want to try this fruit..:)

yeah, fresh durian is so smelly so if you can't bear the smell but you love the taste, eating food products are made from durian is the best way in enjoying durian. My favorite is durian ice cream. it's so yummy. People in my place often serve durian ice cream in their wedding party and the ice cream must the first which is eaten up..LOL.. yeah, it's based on my own thought..and is it the correct one, mm..I don't know exactly..:D

I love durian too. Here in the Philppines, durian plantations is in a far province. But we have them too in our supermarkets here, although they are so expensive. One durian sometimes costs 300 pesos or $7.00. I had the chance to eat one , just the other day when i went to my parents house. Mother bought a durian, because she knows i haven't tasted one, since high school. OMG, it was delicious! But i can only eat up to 3 coated seed because i feel like i have enough after that. It's so exotic in taste.

Oh i envy you my friend, because durian is so cheap in your place. But as to eating more than 3 coated seeds of it, i know i cannot, unlike you where you can eat a lot. I think, eating so much of it causes too much gas on the stomach too, that you might keep on farting after an hour of eating it.

maybe you need to visit my place in durian season, my friend so we can have durian party together..LOL.. if the durian small enough i can eat the whole the coated seeds of a durian. and thank God I'm just fine. you're right about durian is able to increase gas in our stomach, so it's not good for someone who has gastritis to eat durian too much. actually I have gastritis too but it's too pity to let durian season goes by without eating as many as durian..! yeah, I'm ridiculous in this kind of matter..

Oh well, if you are just at home, then you can always eat as much durian as you like, and fart as much as you can too. Farting is said to be a healthy way , though we don't want to do it , when others are around to smell or hear it.

I don't know so much about this fruit. It is because i live in north part of China. Most fruits, including bananas, pears, are all transported from south part of the country to here. I have once tried to eat durian, but i don't like the taste, so never try again. Thanks for inform me so much about this fruit.

How about the condition of north China? what kind of fruit able to plant there? I think pears, oranges and apples grow well in China cos my country prefers to import both of fruits from China cos they are so cheap. I think people in China could plant those fruits in every part of the country, but I was wrong. What is the climate in north China so you can't plant bananas and pears there? is the climate is more like Western country? or else? thanks for sharing..:)

my family LOVVVVEEESSSSSS durian...when i was a small kid, i remember staying over at my late grandfather's house during the school holidays and we'd go 'durian hunting' - dangerous but exciting.. his 'farm' wasnt very big - but trying to locate the fallen durian fruit amidst the long grass and other growth.. can be quite a challenge.. funny how i ended up marrying a man who cannot / will not eat durian - my husband and my mother in-law cant stand the durian.. Thank God our children are all NORMAL - and they love durian like any other NORMAL MALAYSIAN .. and since my husband cant stand the smell of durian - it's quite difficult for us to have durian at home, plus the fact that i am not an expert in the 'opening' or cutting open the durian myself.. Thankfully, nowadays... most durian stalls / peddlars also offer spaces - tables + chairs - for eating / enjoying the durian right at their place.. it's much better also because - we can get immediate 'replacements' if the fruit they sold us is rotten..

reading your story makes me laugh, Mymak..LOL..yeah, it could be little problem when our spouse doesn't have favorite like ours, cos someday it can be problem, especially if he doesn't like durian cos durian is so smelly so we can't hide it under the bed..LOL..luckily I and my husband really like durian. We can eat many durian together. and our daughter is just like us, she is so fond of durian..! so we do party of three in enjoying durian..what is your favorite jind of durian, Mymak, is it the meaty and has strong fragrance or else? thanks for sharing..

I love DURIAN!! I got myself 2 tubs (pre-open) as I just got myself too lazy in opening them myself.. and I just love this stinky stuff all the time. I prefer those we called 'durian kampung' as it's more fragant and less meaty. Those with grades are just too full to be eaten when you had only a few seeds. Those thick ones are good for cakes and confections! Yummy!

so we are same type of person then..LOL.. durian Kampung sounds so Indonesian..where do you come from actually, Cwong? In my place there some kinds of durian. It comes from Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan. Each of those durian has their own characteristic. I like the fragrant and meaty durian cos it makes me so 'full' every time I eat their seeds one by one. but hose kind of durian is so expensive in my place. the cheap one is those which has thin meat on the seeds. but it doesn't matter at all. as long they ripe enough, those durians are still taste like heaven for me..LOL.. BTW

This is the first time that I've heard of Durian, so I know that it is not something that is available around here. With that said, if I were to ever travel to your country during the right time of the year, it would be something that I would be willing to try because of the fact that I like to try all kinds of different things. Sometimes I find that I like things that most other people don't like at all.

Hi, Doran..! I think there many people like you who never heard and known about durian before, espesially those live in Western country like you cos durian is a tropical fruit. So I really happy if you are willing to visit my country someday. I hope you visit it in durian season cos it's a seasonal fruit. If you visit Indonesia when it's not durian season, maybe you won't be able to find any single durian..:) About trying different things, you should try this fruit cos many people really can't bear the smell. They said that the smell is like hell..LOL..so it must be like their big challenge to eat durian without wanting to throw up..LOL..

I live int he Philippines, and I know durian. Yes it is stinky, but one will love the taste of it. In fact, the longer one smells it, the more immune he will become, and the more enjoyable this fruit becomes to the taste. I hope everyone would be able to taste this fruit called durian.

wow..I've just heard that durian is able to increase our immune! that's great! So far I only heard that durian is able to increase your blood pressure and also your gas in your stomach so durian is not good for someone who has gastritis or high blood pressure. but I never heard before that durian also increases our immune. that's new news for me. thanks for your good info, Global..:) Most of people in Western don't like durian I think. the smell of durian directly make them throw up and they, of course, don't want to eat it. They don't know that the taste is more heavenly behind the smell..I'm sure, once they tried, they want more..LOL..

I like durian. This is one of my favorite fruits. We also have it here in Davao, Southern Philippines. We have many durian here especially during Kadayawan Festival. The cheapest would cost $0.5 per kilo. This is just my estimation. In Philippine peso, it costs php15/kilo. We describe durian as "smells like hell but tastes like heaven". We have many durian trees in our farm. Do not eat too much durian. It may cause you high blood pressure. Lol. Have a nice day!

I think durian in your place is as cheap as in my place, Indonesia. Thank God we live in a tropical country which has so many varieties in fruits and plantation. Here, in the peak season, we can buy durian only $0,5 each. yeah we will only get the small one but the taste is as delicious as the big one cos it's ripe enough. so I prefer to buy the small one so I can buy many fruits t cheap price..LOL.. about the blood pressure, yeah you're right. maybe durian is one of unhealthy fruits. fortunately it only happens once in a year..:)

Hello. We also have Durian here in the Philippines, Davao to be more specific. I think we have Durian all year round (to my fellow Filipinos, please correct me if I'm wrong).. I have seen fresh durian or even received some as present (from someone who's arriving from Davao) but for me I don't like it but I like the smell though :D Even the taste of durian candy, can't take it :(

I think you're not alone Wep, so many people out there don't like durian cos they can't bear the strong smell. Maybe some of them really like the taste of durian but they can't accept the smell. so they prefer eating the products which use durian as their ingredients such as candies, fruit ice or ice cream. when you don't like the taste in every product, it means that you don't like durian at all. LOL. So, what is your favorite fruit then? :)

I have been to Indonesia, and I have seen people enjoying durian. I did try it too with the suggestion of a friend there. The taste is very good, very unique, but, as you said, the odor is too strong. We cannot take the fruit along on the airplanes.

The taste is very good, that's why the price is also expensive, the best one could be priced about $5-$7 each, and it's expensive for people here. I like durian very much so I am always very happy welcoming durian season every year. In the peak of the season we can buy durian at the lowest price. We can buy seven durians with only $4..!! It's amazing! Yeah, the size is not big enough but it's ripe enough so the taste is just the same with the big ones. How about you, can you find fruit stall which sells durian in your place? and how much does durian cost each in your place?

You're right that today is mango and rambutan season (but mango season is almost over I think, but rambutan season is just started). I don't remember exactly when durian season usually started, but today there are so many durian in my place. When we visit traditional market in the early morning, we will see so many durians which are delivered directly by the farmer. And the price could be very cheap. And I also find some durian sellers along the road in my town. maybe you need to visit my town sir to prove that today is durian season in my place..:D

you're more than fan of durian I think cos you have durian tree..!! It's awesome..! I really want to have durian tree actually but I have no land to plant it. Today there's kind of durian which doesn't need large land to plant but still durian tree requires large land to grow. It must be cool having durian tree in the yard. We can pick the fruit when it's ripe enough. Sometimes some sellers do cheating. They sell unripe durian. So the taste is not delicious at all. If we have ur own trees, we can wait till durian fruit falls by itself. The falling durian means that it is ripe enough to eat. Yeah, you're right..it's so yummy..^_^
