The ups and downs of life are getting to me!

Everyone knows I have a lot of nerve pain. The nerve pain is chronic so there is a lot of depression that goes with it. My depression lifted some yesterday and I was able to write up 3 articles.. I had planned to do the same thing today... My goal is to make at least $15 a day with my writing for 5 days a week... well.. today I started to write and I got exhausted after the first 2 paragraphs and i had to lay down.
Then I went shopping with my family. The nerve pain is so bad that I couldn't walk to pick out anything I wanted.. so I went back to sit in the car while my daughter and her hubby shopped.
We were going to go this evening to church to the hand bell concert.. we have it every Christmas time. I'm in so much pain I can't go, and my son in law is also sick with colitis and my daughter is sick with irritable bowel syndrome so none of us are going tonight.
I'm glad that I got to write yesterday and I'm glad I got out today even though I couldn't walk in the store. I did go in and go to the potty inside... but then came back out.. it was and is just too painful to wear shoes.. walking barefoot also is very painful...
My appointment to the spine clinic had to be postponed so now I am going this Wednesday afternoon.. I sure hope they can do something to help me live a normal life. I'm so tired of this.
I took the trash out tonight and by the time I came back into the house i was crying in pain. It feels worse than when I got stung by a wasp on my toes.. it's just like fire.
Are you having ups and downs in your life? You know .. if it weren't for the down times, we wouldn't appreciate the good times... so I'm grateful... not complaining. I just hope that I can soon live a normal life again.
Mylotters, please share what is going on with you now? Are you having ups and downs too? Please share and let's have a discussion.

Yep, ups and downs and the downs are about 60% now. Back when I went to a pain clinic, they performed a nerve block in my neck which helped for a little while but was never 100% alleviated. My pain is mainly from muscle spasms going up into my head all the way to the brow. The spasms are from trying to hold my head up straight due to two ruptured discs in my neck. Also when I had my two hip replacements, I was left with one leg a fourth of an inch shorter than the other and this causes low back pain when I walk or stand for an extended period of time. Sometimes the only thing I can do is to go lie down. So I can empathize with what you are going through.
We've 'talked' before about what we do to distract us from the pain and discomfort. It is and does get depressing. Especially when you're coming off of a good spell.
I wouldn't presume to suggest what you can and can't do because only you know what works and what doesn't. Just know that you are not alone and that I am wishing and praying for the best for both of us and that your spine clinic visit will be most productive.

Hi Yoyo. I remember we have talked before. I have to lie down and I read or do mylot or watch tv to try and distract myself. I had to take a pain pill and then lue down. When the edge of the pain was gone I was able to get up and wash dishes. Emtying the trash was just too much. I have to do certain things whiter I have pain or not.
My daughter suffers from neck and head pain. She had an MRI. She should get her results tomorrow.

@yoyo--have you tried putting an inexpensive thin shoe liner in the shoe for the shorter leg. That was what they had my mom do--except she refused a lot of the time because it did not look good in her sandals or whatever. A slight insole might compensate for the leg.

@GG....I only thought about that last week. It's been 3 years since I had the surgeries. Apparently my mental capacity has been affected as well, ya think? I think the medical supply stores sell wedges for inside the shoe and I just haven't thought of it. I had a friend back in the 80's who had to use one all of the time. Thanks for the suggestion. It reinforces my 'memory' enough to put it on my 'to-do' list.
@PQ...On trash day, I have to do the collecting and putting out in stages. Same for recycle day. I also have to do the dishes, cooking and cleaning in shifts. Just can't stand or can't walk around for more than 5-7 minutes at a time. I take a muscle relaxant and pain med regularly. But nothing ever takes the pain away totally.

I am fortunate that the things that hurt me physically are minor and overcome easily. I am so sorry for you. I have had some shoulder issues since about Feb. and finally gave up and went to the chiropractor, because he is less expensive than a doctor and more likely to get to the cause of the problem. He wanted me to have an MRI as he thinks it is rotator cuff, but no job,no insurance, no money. . . He showed my husband how to do some myofacial release and it has helped so much. I also am using a capsaicin based ointment. It was so bad one night about a week ago I took a pain killer from my foot surgery. The next morning I took two Aleve. I have been almost completely without pain ever since. My ups and downs are financial. I broke my glasses at Thanksgiving. It has been more than four years since I got a new prescription. With the office visit and exam and frames and lenses I will be out over $650 but I have paid about half of that already. I am looking forward to having a new set of glasses. So many things have been supposed to happen for me to earn at home, and they just do not connect, they fall through. I have realized this week that I need to actually go back to work for a while to put more money in my Social Security in case it is still there when I can retire. In addition, if I can find some place that pays into state retirement I will do that. So where is it you are writing these days?

With the good advice I was given, and hubby faithfully implementing the care he was shown, I would say my shoulder is already 90-95% better. I was hoping my glasses would be here today, but they are not. Maybe Monday. Financially, suddenly we are awash in work or offers of work. I will post more when I know more. I am promising myself this time to only take on so much, and to be happy with it, and not overwork myself. The job I need to take is interviewing me next Tuesday. Hopefully it will all work out.

Hi Gerty! Oh you poor thing! I had that same thing with my shoulder and I had to have surgery on it.. the doctor scoped it to repair it and then I had to have lots of PT on it.
I am also looking forward to getting glasses... when my new insurance kicks in next month I will go see about it, because my insurance will pay up to $290 toward frames and lenses. The eye exam is free.

I have severe tooth pain and it makes me feel ever so miserable. It is hard to eat and I keep waking up in the night with nasty pain in my mouth. I take strong pain killers which I don't usually use. I only use them because I am desperate. I have the choice between a tooth extraction or a root canal filing. Both sound very scary to me. I took one weeks course of antibiotics. I hate seeing a dentist. This weekend I kept up my pain killers and took my disabled son to a party with other disabled children. It was a long drive down there. I am sorry that you are suffering much pain too. Good luck with your appointment on Wednesday afternoon. Nerve pain sounds awful so good luck my friend.

Yes, I did enjoy going out today.. even though I couldn't shop.. at least I got out and was able to see something besides the 4 walls of my room. I'm having to listen to my body. When I am not able to write (which is my work) then I can't do it. It's been since about October since I've been able to write anything.. I've been suffering from total burn out and depression.

Hello. I haven't had so much ups & downs health wise except some agonizing & tormenting toothaches a few times and but one illness almost 30 years back when I stayed away from family & alone. A brief period of suffering in which doctors kept changing the diagnosis from malaria to para typhoid to spleen enlargement and so on and it would seem the whole abdomen was in Tsunami kind of turmoil.
But the pain & suffering due to nerve pain you describe is very identical to what my 81 year father has been enduring for well over half a century now. He had been to almost every big & small doctor of every school of treatment with no relief [according to him, as he always maintains it is the most uncommon problem he experiences]. It's almost as if he has reconciled to it now but he can never be alone or move about alone. Some psychiatrist's care & medication has helped him stay in some balance.
But for about twenty years younger age, I feel you are having to undergo great suffering and I feel sorry about that. If you do not take me otherwise, I have a feeling you may be creating pressure trying to want to handle tasks that you might do without. Instead you must explore options of getting well completely & fast even if you had to explore alternative therapies like reiki or pranic healing. You may be able to find a reiki teacher in your area here: www.reikimembership.com/MembershipListing.aspx The same teachers may also guide you if pranic healing can be beneficial.
Wishing that you will soon start living a normal life.

well you know my life and it is pretty much the same as yours, I don't force myself to write, i do have goals but if the goals are not working I just readjust, I make sure my body lets me write and that is all there is to it.
I am suffering all over from going out today as I cannot go out in the winter, but once in a while I just have to. I go once a year to the christmas concert and that is my outing until my birthday in March, so I try my hardest to get there knowing I will be in pain the next day and longer but it is worth it. But no I could not be doing this to myself everyday and going out like normal people, I just couldn't handle it.

I have fibroylagia so you might them to look at that if they have not already. It is widespread pain and may not always occur in the same places all at the same time. It is neuropathy pain and is very painful. I most always have it in my knees but at times in feet, hands and even shoulders. My mom and sister also suffers from it so it is genetic. There are so many symptoms that go with disease all the way down to depression and bowel problems so it is worth checking into.

I sympathize with your fiber. I don't have fiber, I don't think. I Dave bulging discs putting pressure on the nerve roots. I get pain in my right arm and hand and in my leg, foot and toes.

I never experienced symptoms of typhoid disease and I have to lay in the hospital for two weeks and infused. At that time I was still in the educational process and I really feel guilty to myself and especially my mother because she had to bear the medical expenses and tuition as well. It was the saddest moment in my life and I am proud of my mother's obstinacy, and she was always encouraging me to get better soon. Actually, many events in my family who often make my mother sad and dejected to face the behavior of both my sister. They were married by the time they have to go to school and wishes of the parents who wanted her daughters succeed not accompanied by the attitude of both the two sisters, thus making my parents as they grieve and feel like a failure because the attitude of their daughters. And it also makes me sad and feel guilty to myself. Fortunately, the mother and the father was able to forgive them. Now, they've got grandchildren and they are happy with their grandchildren...

I hope that you get to felling better. I think your sisters will be happy to make their own choices in life. I don't think the parents should make their daughters follow a certain path. I believe women should make their own choices.

I am so sorry to hear about how much pain your in. I can only imagine how you feel. I hope when you go see your Doctor that he can do something to help you. As for myself I am not in any physical pain not really, but my Doctor started me on a new medication for my depression(started after my Mom passed away)& this medication makes me feel tired all the time. When I'm not feeling sleepy I'm feeling nauseous so I have very little appetite & even when I am hungry I don't really eat that much at all. Then to top it off there is this medicine taste in my mouth that no amount of brushing can take away. I have a Doctor's appt next week & I plan on telling him all of this. I hope that he can change the medication that he has me on. Still what I'm going through doesn't seem so bad after reading your discussion. I'm so sorry that you are in so much pain. I will keep you in my prayers tonight. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

hi dear PQ I am glad you have been to the spine clinic by the time I answer this post of yours, you got good meds which help you and you are able to walk better by now.
I also do have my ups and downs. I am slightly diabetic and have a herniated disc and as if that was not bad enough already I am battling a carpal tunnel syndrome now with my hands falling asleep and tingling painfully most of the time. My doctor told me a few days ago I need to see a neurologist and we will then go from there.
I have this week off now and inspite of the fact I have now done almost all of my Christmas preparations I am drained, still some e cards to write but I cant get to them and need to do it till next Monday as then I will not be home till Christmas. Feel as if I should sleep for a day around the clock.

First of all, I will pray for you :) I would think that most people have there ups and downs in life. I can't set here and tell you that I don't have any down time in my life, because it would be a lie. Don't get me started on what they are either. It would take me a couple of paragraphs at least. lol Hopfully the doctors will have a solution for you soon. *Hands you a get well card*

Yes everyone has ups and downs. That's just the regular ebb and flow of life. I really hope I can get rid of this pain. It feels like constant bee stings on my toes. I can deal with the other pains but those will make cry like a baby.
