A pleasant day dear fellow mylotters,
As far as I know, the ideal number of glasses of water intake is only 8. But to my surprise my mom told me that it should be 12 to 15 glasses. I was really surprised when I heard that from her. Thinking, how can I do that, I cannot complete with the previous 8 glasses, how much more that now a days, the ideal number of glasses of water intake is 12 to 15. Oh my, I feel like drowning although I am not yet starting to drink a lot. I wonder if I can make it. To think, I really feel drowned whenever I am trying to take the previous 8 glasses how come now that the ideal number of glasses of water intake increases.

I bring some water to the computer and sip at the glass from time to time. After a little while, you realise there´s no water in the glass. I keep a bottle of water nearby. If you don´t like water, put a drop of lemon juice into it. YUMMY!!!

We need to do exercises a lot so that we sweat well enough to utilize the water intake. 8 glasses of water is more than enough for a normal worker. A hard worker may require more than 8 glasses of water.

How much water you require in a day depends on:
1) Your body weight
2) The ambient temperature and humidity (and therefore how much water you lose as perspiration, whether that perspiration is visible or not. In dry climates, perspiration evaporates faster and therefore may not be noticeable.)
3) Your energy output during the day. More exertion tends to lead to more perspiration.
As an average or 'rule of thumb', two to three litres of water are required per day for people with normal activity and bodyweight in a temperate climate to maintain proper hydration and kidney function. A 'glass' is reckoned to be about 250ml, so 8 to 12 glasses a day would be recommended.
Don't forget that most of the food we eat contains a considerable amount of water and tea, coffee, milk and fruit juices are all nearly 100% water.
Quite a good guide as to whether you are drinking enough fluids is the quality of your urine. If it is clear and pale yellow and you are passing it three or more times a day, then you are very likely taking enough water. As a guide, for most adults, a full bladder contains something like half a litre. You should expect to pass about two litres of urine a day, with the rest of the water intake being given off in perspiration and in the breath.

When trying to consciously increase your water intake, remember that some of your intake comes from food and other drinks and don't try to drink a whole glass at once at first. Keep a bottle or a glass beside you as you work or with you in your bag or pocket and take frequent small sips from it. You will gradually increase your taste for water and your body will tell you how much you need to take.

I´m sure I would follow that advise if I lived in the desert. As it is, I don´t drink too much water in Winter (there´s not so much water loss by transpiration) and I like to drink water, juices and smoothies when the weather is good. I trust my body, not so much as the several studies about what we must eat. I have lived enough as to see many foods get banned and then reinstated

How big are the glasses? The usual advice is that around 2 litres of water is the right daily amount but that will depend on other circumstances - if it is hot and you are doing physical work or exercise the amount can increase quite a bit.
Don't forget that you can also take on fluids when you eat fruit and vegetables or meals with liquid in them (like soups).
If you are uncomfortable drinking more than eight glasses then don't do it - your body is telling you it has enough.
Also, don't drink a lot in a short amount of time, you can make yourself ill doing that. Spread out your water consumption throughout the day.

hi there hvedra,
that one is a good idea, spreading the water intake throughout the day. but, there are times, that, even i spread it out, still i cannot make it. so i am drinking and taking some alternatives like drinking some flavored juices.

drinking too much water can be dangerous, if you feel like you are drowning when you drink 8 glasses then my advice is don't do it. we all have different needs, and too much can wash vitamins and minerals out of your body, also as someone else has said fruit and vegetables contain water.
also the glasses you are drinking might be quite big.
i would go by how your body feels, if it doesn't want any more water than don't force it to drink it. there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

I have always heard that eight glasses is about the right amount to drink each day. I haven’t heard anything about 12-15 glasses per day being the new amount. It is hard enough to get through eight glasses per day. I don’t have as much of a problem drinking more water when the weather is hot and I am working outside. I tend to drink a lot of water during these times. However, I know that I don’t drink enough water when the weather is cooler, especially if I am staying inside the house a lot. I am pretty sure I won’t be able to handle twelve glasses per day, though. I will have to try to do some research on this issue. I wonder if it is possible to drink too much water?

I often have trouble getting that much water (or any fluid) into me and it will be more of a problem now. I will probably be put onto a water diet as I now have heart failure and it causes a lot of problems when I have too much fluids. I don't know exactly what will happen with this since I haven't been given the details but they have me on very limited fluids right now except for oral. My doctor told me that I was getting too much fluid when they had the IV running at 75 ml/hour. I hope they are able to get that problem corrected soon as I don't like the way it makes me feel. I would check with a professional and see if there is a reason to drink more or less than you do right now. Have a great week!!!

I think that is too much for a typical person. If you live in a hot climate, or sweat a lot in your job or exercise, you might need that much. Too much water can kill you. If you feel like you are drowning you have probably had enough. You have to account for water in some of the foods you eat also.

I have always know it was 8 glasses. But maybe drinking more is more healthy. Well, you don't have to drink them all at once. You can just take breaks, like 15 -30 minutes, then drink half a glass again. it is a good practice.

Actually it depends on our needs. If we do more physical movements and sweat a lot then we need to take more water than anyone else. If we don't do much works than we need to take less of it. It is not just you but me too feel like drowning when hear that.12 to 15 glasses of water daily??? This will make me go to the toilet frequently~(^^)

I also can't drink 8 glasses of water everyday! What more 12-15!
When I tried drinking up to 8 glasses before, I feel like drowning too and bloated. Plus I always needs to go to washroom and pee a lot. But they said it is okay, coz we need to release those from our body.

15 glasses a day? so it's like drinking a glass of water every hour. that can't be right :)
as well as you i know that it's only supposed to be 8 glasses a day. I would probably be sick just trying to reach 15 glasses a day. hahaha
To much of something is bad, and 15 glasses is already almost twice as much as 8 so better be careful. by any chance do you have some sort of illness why your mother requires you to drink as much as 15 glasses of water?

8 is the ideal amount your body needs to run efficiently in a day. I do think it varies on the person to what they can handle. You can literally drown on the inside from drinking too much liquid in a short amount of time. I wouldn't go much higher than 8, I know we drink more when the weather is hotter than we do when it's cooler. I know I don't get enough to drink in winter because cold water is not appealing to me in cold weather.

Water is a very important and essential thing one needs in order to survive. Basic science subjects in schools teach us that our bodies are composed of 80% water. Our schools also teach us that we should drink at least 8 glasses of water every single day of our lives. I strongly suggest that one should drink more than 8 glasses a day. The reason is that there should be enough water to replenish for the loss of water in our bodies everyday. we lose water contents through urinating and sweating. If we drink less than 8 glasses of water, there will not be enough water intake to replenish these water losses. Here, constipation happens. The stool becomes harder, and our bodies will lack water to lubricate. our organs will also start to fail since, just like the intestines having a hard time with the stools. Dehydration and the lack of water contents in our bodies will also cause one to be sleepy, and this will eventually lead to unconsciousness. It is, however, very important to consider where you are geographically located. if you are living in a tropical country where the temperature is higher, one should drink way more than 8 glasses of water. reason is that evaporation and the loss of water is so much higher. With this, our bodies demand more water than just the 8 glasses. So, as a summary, drinking more than 8 glasses of water is a daily requirement. Since our bodies are 80|% water, it is necessary to have adequate water intake to replenish for the water lost due to evaporation, sweating and urinating. Having not enough water would make our bodily organs difficult to function. However, if we have enough water intake, the water can regulate our body temperature. It can also act like a cleansing agent to wash away the impurities inside our bodies. Pimples can definitely be minimized in one way or another. Enough water intake might not be able to prevent the growth of pimples, but it will definitely minimize the growth of it.

I think that's a bit much. Too much water does make you feel bloated and encourages diarrhea too, I think. Anyhow, there are many substitute to water like soy milk or any healthy beverage, a watermelon juice perhaps. Just a thought.

Before, I'm also not very fond of drinking water but since water really helps you to clean your body from unwanted materials and waste materials I then started drinking it a lot. It will also help in making your skin more beautiful. When you feel like drowning, I suggest that you think about the positive things that you can get when drinking water since it makes drinking more bearable.
