I feel like I have been in a book rut. There used to be a time when I could get engrossed in a good book and not want to put it down. Lately though I can't seem to find a really good book to hold my attention. The types of books I like to read are funny fictional stories about family, parenting, or marriage. I love a good book that can make me laugh. Does anyone know of any books that fit my criteria?

I am in the same rut. I have been reading books someone gave me and I need to find something that I really like to read.....more into mysteries or a good down to earth something that is real. I am still waiting to read The Help.....my sister is supposed to borrow it to me. Soon I hope!

That is nice that someone gives you books to read. Do you swap books with this person or were they given to you as a gift? Do you like the books by James Patterson? I have never read any of his books but I think they would be something that you would like. I have heard that "The Help" is a good book also.

The Help is a very good book. There are definitely some laugh out loud moments in the book.

I have always been a reader and I find that some of my favorite books these days are anything by Luanne Rice. All of her books have a really strong emphasis on family and they also tend to take place by the ocean so they are something that is able to warm me up and brighten my day when it is cold and dreary outside here.
I also like to read medical fiction as well, but that doesn't seem to be something that you would really be interested in. If you did decide to try some, I like Robin Cook's books.

I think I may have read one or two books by Luanne Rice. I just don't remember if they are funny or not. Although any book that can brighten my day, especially during these cold winter months, will do just fine by me. Have you read any of the books by Thomas Kincade? I noticed them at the libary before but have yet to read any.

Have you tried the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich? I think there is currently 18 in the series. I will admit that after awhile the 'formula' of the series becomes tiresome because you pretty much know a few things are going to happen in each book. But the writing is good, the author is funny and there is even a family aspect to the book. I believe that the first one is called One For the Money. It will make you laugh out loud and just end up happy that you spent the time reading.

have you tried ebay? i find a lot on there. i love books to but any more i just listen on audio. the one im listening to now is funny and somewhat family oriented. by A.J. Jacobs. its about his reading the encycopedia brittanica through to become the smartest man in the world. at the same time he and his wife are trying to have a baby. its older but pretty good book. i love the historical based things also like Sarah Dunants, in company of the cortesan.

I never even thought about trying ebay for books. I guess because I always just go to the library and borrow them there. The book that you mentioned sounds like it might be a good one. I really like the humorous books about families going through pregnancies or just dealing with kids in general.

Hmm....it has been a while since I have settled down with a good book too. My b/f actually suggested a book the other day that was a popular movie. That Forrest Gump. He said it's nothing like the movie and very funny. I am more of the creepy book reader..lol.
