Do you take medicine right away or wait?

I feel a little under the weather today{maybe the flue or sinus stuff} but I haven't taken any medicine yet. Some people go out and but medicine at the slightest little cough or sniffle, not me....I wait a couple of days and see if it goes away on it's own, maybe I'm just cheap and don't want to spend money if I don't need too. It might be better to get stuff right away before it gets worse but sometimes just some hot tea and a good night sleep take care of the problem. Are you running to the medicine counter at the first sneeze?

I don't run to the medicine as soon as I get symptoms but I will start some at home remedies to try to shake it off. Like if I have a cough I'll drink hot tea with honey, and suck on peppermints. If I'm all stopped up and cant get the stuff to drain out of my head I'll put some vicks in the sink with HOT water then I'll lay a towel over the back of my head and put my face over the water and breathe in the steam. It always helps to clear me up.

I have a combination of essential oils that I use for everything from pimples and chapped lips to colds and prevention and it helps me sleep. I keep that by my bed, and we keep candied ginger. The ginger will soothe stomach problems and it will also stop a cough.

I don't want to drink medicine. So every time I feel that I am going to have a flu or fever I take a lot of water and eat some food. Sometimes I prepare some soup to heat my body. I also sleep early so when I wake up I feel good and have a blessed day. But one of my officemate here take some panadol right away when she feels sick. I pity her because she is relying on medicine not on natural way. I think we have a self healing in our body if our immune system is very strong.

Water is definitely good for you and sleep always helps. I love a good bowl of chicken noodle soup, it's good for a cold

Some people can't shake their cold without medicine so then of course you need to take it. Everybody is different and most people know how their body will react.

For me it usually depends on how Bad I really feel. If it is just a little cough I will usually just ignore it for the first day or two thinking it is allergies. But usually if it is accompanied by a Sore throat, fever, chills and affecting my sugar levels then I usually will start taking Echinacea for it, and if it does not seem to be getting any better than see a Doctor. I am prone to Bronchitis and since I am an Insulin Diabetic it is important for me to not get too run down.

hi tina and m issy i too am a diabetic and I do not wait very long as I am prone to bronchitis so if I get a fever and sore throat I get to my doctor at once.so far though the flu shots keep me pretty well.I am type 2 on oral meds.

For me, it depends on what kind of pain I have, although for most pain I tend to wait. For example, if I have a headache, I might take something (like aspirin or Tylenol) if it gets worse, although I'd rather just sleep it off if I can. I also wait it out when I'm sick. I had a flu (mentioned it in a discussion on here somewhere) a couple of years back. I never did take anything for it... I've never taken anything for menstrual pain either, and I've had some bad cramps in the past.

I also wait a few days. I first take some allergy medicine to see if it is my allergies. I also take 1000 mg of vitamin C per day. If that doesn't help I will pick something up at the store, or use what I have in my medicine cabinet left from last year (as long as it is not out of date).

I don't take Vitamins for a cold. I just take Vitamin C on a regular bases. It has helped over the years to keep the colds and flu bouts down. Years ago my Aunt told me about the vitamin C. Needless to say she is in her 90's. So my husband and I started taking Vitamin C daily. We both have been healthier. We also eat fruit as well.

Please don't think of taking vitamins for cold. They just don't help much instead concentrate in eating a well balanced diet which is much healthier and better for you.

I normally wait with medicine, the only thing I'll take for a cold would be paracetamol for the headache and sore throat I always get. I combine this with hot tea with honey. Anything else doesn't help anyway, I can't avoid getting the cold once I've felt the start of it!

Some time its very good not take medicine immediately. Your own body defender get your health back. But in serious matters you should consult to your doctor it may be dangerous. I also don't take medicine immediately. I take care of my self when i feel bad. In flue i drink water more and more but not cold water. Fresh water is better. Every person have its own body requirements and one should know about himself. at the end I would like to suggest you to take medicine. Drink semi-hot water.

Well as a medical professional, I would advise you to not take your medicine right away especially if it's only a slight fever that you are experiencing. The fever is your body's self defense mechanism and stopping it by drinking medicines will stop in some sense your body's mechanism too. Wait at least 1-2 hours and if your fever gets worse then drink your medicine. Then if after a day or two and your sickness still persist, try visiting a doctor which may prescribe you stronger medicines/antibiotics.

I rarely take medicine unless it is absolutely emergency. And funnily enough, because I do that, I rarely get sick. I'm pretty sure there might be some kind of connection to that, but I cannot really prove it. When the body does not get too dependent on the medication, it is not going to get sick too often. There will be times where it needs to be used for sure, but responsible use is necessary. Rest is obviously the best thing. The body has surprisingly natural healing powers. Yet, we tend to rather go to the most lazy way to get rid of the illness and that would in fact be rather problematic. So unless I am really ill, I don't do any kind of medicine and even then, it is very reluctant. We live in a world that is caked right in dependence and I'd like to not go be a slave to the medicine cabinet.

I hate to take medicines. So if i am diagnosed with any illness than i just wait for it to cure by itself. It is better than taking chemical tablets.

For cold or minor fever I would wait a few hours to take medicine for it. In India there are good "ayurvedic" medicines available which have no side affects at all. These medicines are prepared from plants and generally of low cost but would take its own time to cure. So usually I take such medicine after waiting a few hours ,but before getting the symptoms of the illness get worsen.

Me, I don't usually take medicine right away when I feel something bad in my body. I tried to find time to eat and sleep. I really make sure I can have enough rest. After that, I still feel bad then it's the time to really take medicine. And I also make sure I drink a lot of water daily because water really helps me.

I have almost any type of medicine I need on hand, never seem to use it all up. Besides, tea, extra water, a warm shower, fresh fruit and extra rest all seem to work as well as most medicines for me. Oh, I use saline nasal spray a lot, just to rinse. It helps too. Being comfortable, hydrated and rested all seem to be wonderful treatments.

They don't even want us to come to work when we have the sniffles, so if you want a day off you just cough and sneeze and they tell you "BETTER STAY HOME TILL YOU FEEL BETTER"...Love it

when I feel a cold is coming up I run to my medicine cabinet, indeed, and take some herbal stuff to nip that nasty cold in the bud, best when I start feeling uncomfortable even before the nose is clogged. See I am diabetic and so its better to get the virus out before it can really feel at home in the body. But I wont go for meds when I only have headaches or the like.

No missybear I am not running to the pharmacy at the slightest cough or sniffle but I am running to my medicine cabinet in the bathroom...LOL I am so afraid of being sick and I am not sure why. I think its because I have not cleared my 5 years from the cancer yet and I am trying to do everything the doctor says to do....I know that with all that poison from the chemo in my system my immune system is very weak. Anyway it is what it is...I do believe in going to the doctor if there is a reason not for a hang nail or a splinter....LOL.... Sometimes its better to nip the cough or sniffles in the bud before it becomes something full blown. Take care and hope you feel better soon...
