For as long as I can remember, child stars have been a very important part of the showbiz industry. However, child stars today are given more mature roles. They were asked to play a role that is not really how children in real life will act. I mean, their roles are becoming more and more unrealistic even if they aren't playing a fictional character. The best example that I can think of, is the Filipino series "Munting Heredera" (Little Heir). There are three main characters in that series, all are children between 6-9 years old, an age where children wouldn't think of anything aside from playing. Instead, in that series, these children acts like an adult- playing detectives, coveting and even fighting for something that children in real life wouldn't like - the inheritance. Some of these kids even plan some criminal plans. It's either the director of this series hate children or he/she haven't met a child before. It's also an indirect way of teaching the child viewers to act the same way.
Have you seen that series? What can you say about the child actresses?

For soaps, i am for ABS CBN . Though, sometimes as i switch on channels , i also chance upon Muntin Heredera. Indeed, at that young age, they depict bad characters. It gives the children who views this some insights on how to do such things and it's not good.
That's why i admire ABS 100 Days a lot, because the child Ana , plays a role tht is worth praising because she was trying to correct her bad ways when she was still alive as the adult Ana Manalastas.
Now they are airing a new one, about 4 children who are trying to look for someone to adopt the child they accidentally picked. I am not watching that show, but i hear it as we are eating and afterward i am washing the dishes. I think it's another nice soap.

Oh , you know TV shows can really make the impossible possible, like ANa coming back to life in the form of a small child.

Hi!
I sometimes watch that TV show. I was not able to watch the scene where the kids were fighting over their inheritance though. Nor the scene where they thought of a criminal plan. Was there ever a scene like that? All I saw where the kids fighting petty fights, and I think it's natural, it's even natural for kids to be envious of each other, to tease each other and all the sorts that kids would fight over. But if there were ever scenes that they thought of dubious plans, then I think there's something wrong with the writer and director and the whole show.

Yes I once stumble upon a scheme where the short haired girl plans something bad but although she was accompanied by Katrina Halili. Some of the fights are really pretty shallow but some of them are about being the heir which in real life children wouldn't care about.

That is one reason i do not watch such teleserye.. even my kids do not watch it. I do not encourage them to watch such..
For one the storyline is exaggerated..even the story 100 days in Heaven which my mom and other relatives watch it, they said it has a good story line and has morals in it. But i did not let my children watch it. Good thing we have our own television in the room..
Instead i watch NatGeo ( well err...am a geek lol) and also Discovery Channel..and good thing is my children watch it with me. One episode we love watch currently is Python Hunters..about snakes which i could really explain to them what snakes are and how to treat them..i also watch CSI With them, yeah there are violent scenes there but i can educate them with that too, what is right and what is not..and about police work as well..and about the type of minerals and chemicals used..so in other words they learn from what they are watching. We also watch Top Chef and Iron Che...
all in all, i let them watch movies or series that i know they could benefit from it.

I think for the young actor things like horror films probably cease to be scary because they see how all the effects are done. In the UK there are strict rules about how many hours a child can work and directors have to be careful what they expose them to on set. A lot of scenes where it looks like a child is present when something violent is going on is actually shot seperately so the child doesn't see the violence but it looks like they did.
Is the Munting Heredera aimed at children to watch or for adults? I can see how it could work aimed at adults if it was a kind of "spoof" thing where children are doing the things that adults do to show how ridiculous some adult behaviour is.

Sorry I don't agree with you. Kids are way smarter and more intelligent as they were 20 or 40 or 60 years ago.
My 5 year old daughter was already able to read and count at that age and interested in the starts, planets etc. She had a complete different interest as other kids. The same is with my now 8 year old son and the youngest just became 6 years old daughter. They both are very fast readers (most kids just start at the age of 6), are interested in science, the human body, dinosaurus, etc etc.
They are very creative and have their own art club.
They also like to play with lego, or make a slide from mud into the river but they are not the kind of kids you have in mind.

Yes, I agree that children are way smarter today than we are back then but still, showing what they are capable of (especially the bad ones) can be dangerous to them. I limit watching TV for my daughter because she can memorize the lines of those characters pretty easily and sometimes those lines aren't appropriate for children of her age. Thanks for sharing your opinion on this matter anyway! :)

I only saw one commercial about this tv shows. I have always hated the telenovelas they have showed because their main characters are usually dumb, push overs who never knew how to properly fight for themselves. They set bad examples to the public. The rated parental guidance doesn't help at all, because older people would still watch it, with or without their kids around.
I never knew that the kids' role were like that. Why did they even allow something like that? All for the sake of drama and more tv ratings? it's despicable.
we already have ourselves full with stupid people trying to act the same way as the stupid characters in tv dramas. Why won't they show more meaningful shows that gives the audience something good to learn??
argh, this news is making me mad.
hehe, sorry to rant here, stuckonu.

Yes you are right and I think that is a bad influence to children viewers. Children must enjoy their life in a normal way so if any child is doing something not fitted for their age it is a way of depriving him the chance to enjoy his childhood. I find those drama series that depict child in roles not fitted for a child offensive. I think the Movie and TV Review Board should do something about this.

I bet those kids, if not properly guided, would be broken adults in the future.

It happens and we need to give them a chance to grow themselves. Need some guidance from us and improve them rather then pull their legs.

No stuckonu, I haven't been able to come across that series yet. But it is really something that we should be concerning about. Do you know what is media acculturation? It is how media build our viewpoints and beliefs. In other word, it is how the media determine who we are. Perhaps they should really think twice about what kind of movie should these child actresses be acting
