Doctors opinions on health issues

I have been having some gynaec related health problems for which I consulted three different gynaecologists for their opinion and I did not tell any of them about the other doctors that I have seen. All three of them have given me totally different opinions. Now it is upto me to decide which Doctor I can trust and do ahead with the treatment. Or else find a fourth opinion. What do you do when you have serious health issues. Do you trust your family physician totally or do you go for a second opinion?

I use the Internet as much as possible, that way when I see the doctor I can bring up any issues I have questions about. This works well for me.

I am doing my own research on the net like I always do. The Internet has become like a University for me where I am learning a lot.

I agree there is some truth to this. So what I do is write a list before I ever start to investigate what might be wrong with me.

mayka - there is a lot on Internet that matches our symptoms. In fact, one of the things I'd read in Pears Encyclopedia is that a person who reads about ailment would invariably find he or she suffers with almost all the problems. In law - it is called leading the witness. Questions are phrased in such a way that the witness starts answering something entirely in a different direction. So with medicines too, dont get terrified with the information that net feeds you. 9 out of 10 times you'd be identifying your problem to be more serious than it actually is.

i stay with the family doctor and the doctor knows me from my childhood so i feel this is the best way. However at times there is a second opinion where i need to go to other doctor which is well and more reputed in the society. My first preference would be the family doctor which has every record of my health condition .

Since I have changed my residence I was looking for new options around where I stay now. Since I did not know who was the best I was looking at various options to decide. And I was surprised by every one's opinion. Wanted to go to my regular gynaec but he is very far away from where I reside now and if I have to be hospitalized it will be troublesome for those who would want to be with me in hospital.

Can try asking frineds or relations about their opinions what they do when to choose a doctor or else see who they approach when ill.Your previous doctor who is far off from you can also give a good advice or a suggestion to whom to consult in ur nearby place. And if u r so much in trouble then without a time taking u should be rushed to any hospital who can give u on time cure.

Oh dear that is scary, I think I would be telling them that you have been to other doctors and all opinions are different but I wouldn't be telling them what the other doctors results were, I would just make them look into it further, otherwise you might as well flip a coin, you need to know exactly what is going on....

It is quite common "No two doctors agree; no two lawyers agree on the same point." It is better for us to choose one doctor based on reports or experience and then go for his advice with 100% confidence.

It is very difficult to get the same opinion from various doctors. It is safer to go to just go to the one we trust. But since I have recently changed my residence I am finding it difficult to get a suitable doctor near my residence where it would be convenient for me to visit.

Here is a big problem. Doctors are supposed to be curing people first, before earning money. I know a couple of doctors who have confessed that the main priority is to feed their own families. While I understand them, I find that it would be so difficult to be trusting them. I think the best thing to do is really to go see doctors you personally know. Not just a family doctor, but a doctor you personally know. He or she would be more concerned for you.

My problem was that I have shifted residence recently and was trying to find a good genuine doctor somewhere close to where I stay. Am finding it difficult to get a doctor whom I could trust in. My regular family doctor is now very far away and it is very inconvenient to visit him often. But it seems I have no choice left but to take the trouble of going all the way to his clinic.

Good point. In such issues you must select one doctor/hospital, have confidence and then go for treatment to avoid confusion. You must put the responsibility on God and move ahead for treatment. if we consult more people we will have more confusion. Simple point like going on pilgrimage when we tell others-- they start giving so many suggestions and we cannot take all their suggestions and are put into mental tension. we had a problem for my brother -- regarding health - relating to heart -- finally decided that we will go with apollo hospital believe them and move. that helped us. he is fine.

Yes now I can leave things only to God. And consult my regular gynaec and leave everything in his hands. Because I think I will be able to trust his opinion and confidently leave everything in his hands.

Madam: it may appear a little crude -- we always have problem if there is more than one option we get confused. Supposing there are three ways to reach your office by road and when you travel by say a car or scooter normally it is advisable to have a fixed route so that we do not get confused. similarly believe in one doctor and leave it to him/her. Based on my experience I am tempted to think that nearly 60% happenings in our life are pre destined and probably we have a little control over these. At the same time we should always think good for us, for others and be positive believing in the force above us.

Mayka I am very concerned about your problem, such type of problem are really persisting today, You can do one thing try to bluff them to know what exactly the problem is or you can go with your family physician if u think that he/she is worth believing.

The problem is I have changed my residence and am finding it difficult to go to my regular physician who is now far away. Was searching for options close by so that if any hospitalization is needed my friends and family living close-by would be there to look after me.

I dont trust doctors at all. But sadly enough sometimes we do need them. Do they at least all have the same diagnoses??? But differemt treatments. Pick the treatment you feel best about.

That is ridiculous! No, I do not trust doctors, 100%. They are human and can make errors. I would go to more, until you get some agreement. I go, as much as I can, with natural doctors, because I am tires of being put on meds or surgeries that are not always necessary. Yes, some are, but sometimes not. Go with your instincts, too. Those are your guides giving you advice.

I sometimes feel these doctors just do some guess work because they have to give some reply to the patients. I am only going with my instincts just now. Dont want to take any decisions for which I will repent later.

I always go for a second opinion, and in your case I think I would keep searching until you find several who can agree on what's going on. Sounds to me like they are all just guessing.

I think much better to get the opinion of others and corroborate what other say to the other... Even if those Doctors, have different opinion just try to figure out if their opinion has a little of connection that might be given you the opportunity to which is really the most findings according to what you feel in your health...

Hi, Please don't worry about the time consumption factor to see your regular doctor as you will be free to discuss about your actual problem and you can seek his/her guidance. I am sorry to read about your sister. I would request to please gather information on your problems through books, net, friends and who knows someone may even come up with a solution, or the best physician in your town. We used to visit our family doctor on most of occasions at a distant place but these days we have identified few good doctors including ENT, Child Specialists, General Physician, lady doctor and even Dentist.

Yes I have serious health problems and already for years each doctor is telling me something different. So what I do is I listen to myself since in the end I am the one who knows me the best. I don't trust doctors btw.. my dad is one, they are not really interested in you as a person. Only if they are able to get fame with it, not if you are a lost case anyway. So my advice is.. what do you feel, what do you think you have? Go look for information everywhere. Make a list what makes sense from what doctor. After that, go find an other one and say what is according to you the problem. I am not saying that every doctor is able to cure but at least if you put yourself in the hands of a stranger (who is allowed to make mistakes and walk out) you should have some confidence in him (the hospital).

You have lived with a doctor all your life and know how much to trust them or how much not to trust them. . I was actually trying to get a doctor who was near my residence but now have to cancel all the options that are close by because I dont think I can trust any of them. The doctor whom I really trust is very far away from my present residence and going to him often is very time consuming and expensive.

Some illness is not as straight forward as it seems. Even with high tech medical equipment that is available today, the analysis of the symptoms and causes are not necessary the same with every doctors because there could be 101 reasons why such bodily condition can occur. Of course it is different if the cause of the illness is obvious and traceable, for example, food poisoning. So the doctors may see the situation to determine the seriousness and what to do to confirm what illness it is. They will try to see how your body reacts to the treatment. If there are changes to the better then it means the treatment is effective and most likely, the correct cure. In complicated cases, it may take sometime to finally decide the right treatment, but they will first try to stabilize the condition and prevent it to become worse. If you have a family doctor, you should first go to him as he would have all your medical history, and thus, is in a better position to judge. Only when the illness doesn't seem to get better for a reasonable period, then a second opinion may be consulted.

Yes not every illness is straight forward. Sometimes when we have doubt we should take a second opinion. Since my illess is a bit complicated I do not want to take decisions in a hurry and therefore wanted the opinion of more than one doctor.

Do some studies on the four doctors. Ask previous patients about their experiences on these doctors. Look at their educational background. You have to look at different views before believing on what the doctor said. I hope you would find a cure on your problem. If you want a second opinion go for it. You just trust a doctor the moment he starts the treatment on you.

Hi mayka! In such a case, I would go for opinion of those two Doctors, whose advice is similar in the matter. First of all, we go the trusted and tried Doctor for any kind of disease (read specialists Doctors). Then we normally abide by his/her opinion and trust his/her treatment. In your case, if you are still not clear, check out for any (fourth) renowned/experienced gynecologist and could seek her opinion.

That is odd. I do take a second or third opinion. But I must say I am lucky that my homeopathy doctor is conversant with my constitution because of which she is able to prescribe right medicines everytime I visit her. It is a different matter that I do not take the medication regularly. But I do find her medicines to be effective.

Choose one out of the three which you really confident and have potential to know the truth about your health. If its me if I really want to get second opinion I will do it but I will not going from one doctor to another to know the truth. Second test is enough to make us confused. Just choose any one of it and asked them to re-check for more details. (^^)
