What is our purpose?

I'm in a thinking mood tonight.. and I'm wondering what my purpose here on earth is. Why was I born? Why were you born? Why are we here talking to each other on Mylot?
We live, we eat, we reproduce and we die. There's a lot of stuff in between, but what is our destiny? We see rich people, we see destitute people. We see kids on TV dying of hunger in 3rd world countries. Why are they here to suffer like that. Sometimes I feel that life isn't fair. Why are there children with flies riding their faces as they cry with a starving stomach?
I believe that God had a reason for creating man in the first place, but I can't figure out why?
I'm thinking our purpose is do the best we can with what we are given, and what we can accumulate and help others survive. It seems like we do a pretty sucky job of it though, because no matter how much money we send over to these countries with starving kids, they never stop being hungry! You would think with all the aid that is given to help the poor people, the suffering would some day end.. but it never has... so what is our purpose here? What is their purpose for having to suffer so much?
Is there an answer here? Because I just can't find one. your thoughts?

42?? I don't understand tour response. My question here is a valid one and I want to know what our purpose is. All purposes can't be the same, judging by the way people are forced to deal with in their lives.

He made you, I would think that would give him the right to do as he wants with you.
I think so therefore I am. God spared me one time and I am still trying to figure why, what is my reason to be here. I still do not have an answer so I try to live God's will each day in hopes of the resurrection.

I know what my strengths are.. and I believe they are God given gifts.. maybe that is my purpose... maybe if it is to help one person it is worth it. I know I have helped a few people with my writings, and I have also mentored a person who now has gone way beyond my scope of knowledge... but she might not have taken that leap if she hadn't first gotten her feet wet with me.

Interesting thoughts my friend. There are so many purposes in life, and to living, being here, etc. I feel a lot of times it can be so different for everyone here as well. I know my purpose is to help be an example even with all the struggles in life I go thru both physically and emotionally. It is to help me get stronger to God learning to trust him more and being able to share the experiences in life I have gone thru with others.

Hi Tina, it is so good to see you, my friend. I too think that our purposes might be as individual as we are. Like my former pastor's wife is a beautiful singer.. she sings for benefits and other things.. she is a music minister... and when she sings, you know you have had a sermon without any preaching... you just feel fulfilled with the Spirit of the Lord... she is very anointed.
My gift is intercession.. I pray for people .. and sometimes I will get flashes or thoughts of things that I don't even know about... yet I know that the Lord wants me to pray. Maybe that is part of my purpose to pray for people. I'm not even good at prayer.. I don't say eloquent prayers.. I talk to God like He is my Daddy, and I tell him what is going on and ask Him to intervene according to His will.

i agree, God has something in mind for each and every person on earth. Maybe yours was to be a thinker. I also feel that we will not die until we have fulfilled that purpose.
I 1980 I was working traffic in the City of Sedalia MO, when I got a call to go to the western edge of town and watch the progress of a tornado. While there the storm changed direction and I was caught in the middle of the tornado. I bailed from my patrol car and got into a nearby ditch until it blew over. I lived so I have always figured that I had not fulfilled my purpose here yet or I would have been killed.

In the spiritual side, 1st of all God created man from the very beginning so that he could have a temple or a dwelling place to live here on earth, (so we are his temple) . God created us so that we could enjoy life but still in according to his will . The problem sprouted when Satan deceived Adam and Eve, and from now and then, they commit Sin and as a part of the curse, Man get's hungry only if they sweat or work, and Woman, when they are pregnant, they experience too much pain . (don't worry, it's scriptural).
then what we see now a days that man and women all over the world are suffering from different kinds like division of races, culture problems, rich and poor because Man is living not according to the will of God, but to the will of His own . (hope you could get it my friend )
And because of the fruits of Sin like greediness , selfishness, hatred, debating one another's belief, false accusations to one another, many people are also suffering from it.
hope I answered your question my friend, God Bless you Always .

Thank you for your well thought out answer. I understand about the beginning. Now things are different. Not everyone is Christian. Not everyone believes in the one Almighty God of the bible. Many are atheists, and many are polytheists and yes many are Christian… and depending on the denomination they are as different as night and day.
So I wonder what our purpose is TODAY. To enjoy life according to our own purpose rather than HIS purpose? I really don’t like getting into belief systems because they are so different. It’s so easy to offend people with one’s beliefs. Like I believe in Jesus as my savior, and I believe that Jesus is the only way to Heaven… but others will say that is not correct and call me names for my beliefs… so I can only relate to me. For ME, Jesus is the only way to heaven. How anyone else views it is up to them.
So our purpose is really to what we believe our purpose is.. I think. That’s about the best way I can reason it out to myself. I think I am here to be kind to others and lend a helping hand when I can. I think I am here to share my faith to those who WANT to hear it. I’m also here to mind my own business and not run anyone else’s life… that is kind of how I view my existence.

I believe we were created in the image of God to learn lessons. Only God knows the true purpose for that, but with that said I believe that we only have a certain amount of time here and that all we can do is make the best of it. True there are a lot of bad things happening in the world, but the bad was created by man not God. We were created as sinners, which is why God sacrificed his only son to die for those sins so that we can be reunited with him in heaven. We should focus on trying to live as closely as we can to how God intended for us to. Our destiny is to make it to heaven.

I believe so too. I believe we are all given some sort of talent. Some of us have more than one talent. I believe God wants us to use our talents to the best of our ability to take care of ourselves and also to take care of those not as fortunate, like the widows and orphans as stated in the bible. I’m not really religious. I am a Christian, filled with the Holy Spirit, but I am not religious. I have a relationship with Christ that is private to me, and I will share only when invited to do so.

Hello... Recently, I have been continuously hearing that everyone has a purpose. Each one of us is born to do something. It is kind of, God sends everyone here on some mission... I used to believe it!
But my recent experiences & thinking has made me think that my life is so worthless... I feel as if I've been cursed, my life has been cursed & I'm doomed to suffer the worst...
Maybe, God sent me to suffer & feel the pain only...

Maybe you are right. Now I would wonder why? We can see we are not all equal. Some are rich and others can't even sleep in a bed or put food in their bellies. Can we have an intended purpose if we have free will to choose our path of life?

Sometimes we learn the most about ourselves during the hardest times in our lives. I guess you have to figure out what you learn from that suffering, and what can you do to make the suffering less?

Hat may have been Solomon's purpose. Now I wonder about ours. We obviously don't all have equal opportunities. Some people suffer while others flourish.

When a person posts a question perhaps to God as to what is her or his purpose here on earth, that just shows, he or she's a person of worth. That means she or he is not just focused on himself or herself. Yeah, there's a lot of pains, hunger and sufferings in this world. A lot of people out there are in hunger...a lot of people dying. If you think and believe that your life here on earth has a special purpose and that is to make life of others quite bearable, by helping them in your own capacity, the world could have been a better place... if only the hearts of the people living here are propelled with love. After all, isn't this the law that Jesus left in our hearts,"Love your Neighbor as Yourself"...

I agree with you.. I believe we all have talents that can help to improve people's lives. One person told me that I helped to change her life because I recognized that she had writing talent, and began to have her ghost for me to get the experience with writing professionally. She now has gone way beyond what I have taught her and gone way beyond what I can do. She writes for a newspaper now as a reporter... I could never do that... but she gained the confidence with a little help from me to improve her life. It helped both of us.

Plastic .. the one and only reason for us being here is plastic. You see when dinosaurs got wiped out they left us Oil. Since you are in the thinking mood, just think about this. What are we going to leave behind? Our computers?, Our Skyscrapers?, Our cars?. No, The only thing that will be left over after we are gone will be plastic. And its about time, we have almost created enough. And when our job given is fulfilled, there will be another disaster which will wipe us clean off this earth.
