I just got my salary today. Although, it's just a little amount, I intend to divide it for different purposes and use it wisely.
Can anyone give me tips on how to divide the money in reasonable percentages?
-money to buy something for me
-money to buy something for others
-savings
-money for daily use
No problem with food at home, just lunch at school. Any suggestions?

Between my husband and I, we take care of the bills that need to be paid at the time. Like if the electric bill needs to be paid on the 12th, we pay it. Then put aside some money for our son, other living expenses and save anywhere between 10% and 30%.
So if you don't have to worry about that.. deposit 70% - 85%. Want to save more money? Then make lunches at home, we saved a lot of money having my husband eat here after work than get something at work.

Since you seem to have no responsibility in life yet, you might as well save most of it for future use so you can buy appliances or gadgets with the accumulated money.
But of course, you should first set aside your allowance for the office, fare and foods. Then, save a part of it. Then , you can buy groceries for your parents or for the household.

That will depend on your spending habit my friend. For me, since I am a family man, I budget my salary with my wife. We assign a certain amount of money (via separating them on different envelopes) for food, recreation, utility bills, savings, donations and miscellaneous (those unexpected spendings). It works fine for us since we are able to monitor where the money is going, in oppose to our previous way of spending where I will just give a certain amount to my wife and let her decide what to buy from that. You can try that too. Also, I am creating a Microsoft Excel application called Pivot Chart to help me track our daily expenses and see where we can cut our cost down. Although, it is a bit tedious, I believe it will be worth it in the long run.

^^ I didn't there were softwares for this purpose. Thank you! I think I will have those softwares someday when my salary is bigger and when I have family. You and your wife are great to have this partnership when it comes to money. I want to have that when I'm married. Now, I'm training myself slowly to become more responsible and ready to face the world on my own.
I don't like the fact that my dad is the only one truly holding the money and gives some to my mom and let her decide about the expenses. I think it's not fair to my mom, but she's sort of a spender so I think I can't blame my father either.

Hello Aja!
I once read in a magazine that the right way to budgeting is SALARY - SAVINGS = EXPENSES. Most people, (including I) do it in reverse SALARY - EXPENSES = SAVINGS. So I guess that is where the saying "live within your means" came from.
I honestly don't have a savings yet but I am planning on having one this year. I promise NEVER TO TOUCH IT. ^^ So for me, it would go SALARY - SAVINGS = EXPENSES. My expenses include:
- fare and food allowance
- internet and phone bills
- home needs
Good luck girl and happy new year!

yes, i have. My very salary for two months was used all up without proper management. I just get whatever amount of money in my pocket and use it for necessary things. Some of the money was given to my mother, father, sister and grandparents. It's terrible, I wasn't able to even start a bank account.

Hi Aja, if you have enough money for saving, you might as well buy an insurance policy for yourself.
It is best that you start young.
When you are older, you need to pay more for the same coverage.
If you start to have certain health problems, you cannot buy insurance policy anymore.
The best is to save enough money for six months usage.
That is the rule of thumb for emergency fund.

i make sure to save at least 10% of my salary, I usually make an estimate on how much i will be spending until the next salary and some extra in case of unexpected expenses, it already includes the things i buy for my self and others. then if there are still remaining, it also goes to my savings.

first of all it depends on your expenditure. means how much of money you spend on daily basis. Keep Track of all the money spent on different different need like shopping for you ,shopping for others and then rest of the money if left, then you can save that money.

Use expense manager software for good management. Compare your previous month's expenses with this month meanwhile plan to reduce expenses for upcoming months.
Or you can also turns your plan and expenses on weekly basis as per your convenient.
