Change is good...or is it?

Lots of people say "change is good" when others say "If it's not broken don't fix it".
Our company is moving out of the building that we've been occupying for almost 10 years now. Our old building was very cozy and homey and it was only us in the whole place.
Now we're moving our Hospice into a 5 story Building next to the Hospital.
I'm sure there is reason to all of that but most of us hate leaving our cozy place and trading it in for a Hospital like setting {You can't even open the windows in the new place}.
It's all about money I'm sure but I hate to be moving.
Have you ever had to relocate with your job and hated it or was it for the better.
You never know it might be OK...we'll see when they finished with it all and we can move in.

I have a experience with my old school. When I was at school in my last year we were supposed to go to a better location. I asked about it and it was after my exams that the school will transfered to that location. When I graduated I saw the transfer and I saw the new building and it was even worse then the old location. I don't think it is about the money, I think the government controls it. Sadly enough :(

I think they partnered up with the Hospital cause they get a lot of patients from there but they won't conform that.

One company I worked for at one time had a huge move...it was only next door but trust me, it was huge. We left this iconic building to move into another iconic building and there was a lot of work for the staff and also renovations to be done. It took ages and so by the time it was finished, we didn't care that we had had to move. There was also some problems during the move and we had to move somewhere else while the problems were being fixed...several of us were let go after that because of what it all cost...stupid boss didn't get an engineer in to check and didn't do his sums either

That stinks, hopefully nobody gets laid off.
The only bummer is that we don't have our own kitchen in the new place cause the hospital will serve all the meals for the patients and we can eat at the cafeteria there.
I'm friends with a couple of the girls in the kitchen and sad that i don't get to see them anymore

Luckily for me no. I have been working with this company for approximately 11 years and the specific section I work with, hasn't been relocated we have been in the same office enviornment since I started, but the company itself has been relocated twice. I was so happy that I wasn't part of the moving, but the other people were very disappointed, especially when the majority of them were going to have to do heavy commuting in the morning and afternoon.
I just hope I don't have to relocate any time soon, I am very comfortable where I am at.

hi dear missybear moved all my stuff at the office to where I sit now but we are moving within the next weeks, the bad thing about it is they come in the morning and tell us you got to have everything packed up so we can move you in two hours or womething crazy like this. Well we will be moving to the smaller building, its a complex, and I dont like this change the least bit but I will also have to see how things turn out.
One good thing I will sit within reach of my best friend at work......

Nice about the friend thing but not so nice about moving to a smaller place.
Our place is suppose to be bigger but people that went to look at it don't seem to think so

hi missybear no we are not necessarily move to a smaller place, the building is the adjacent one and I will see how much space we are allowed when we have moved but I hate this packing up with my herniated disc.

If change is inevitable, embrace it and do what you can to make the new place home like as well. I am sure it is about cost cutting, and possibly about being near to medical care if needed, but that does not mean you need to have a sterile and cold environment.

I hope not but I got a feeling it's not gonna be quite as cozy.
In our old place we have lots of big plants in the front entrance and throughout the building and I don't think they letting us take them, we also have a TV area that has a huge bookshelf with tons of books and i heard the big bosses are coming next week to clean house and throw away everything that's not needed and I have a feeling the plants and bookshelf have no place in our new facility

Hello missy bear !
I have learnt that you shouldn't dwell on things that you can't changed. It is obviously about money because a part of a building is surely more cheap then a hole building but the thing is that this is probably a measure to avoid laying people off.

So far nobody is getting layed of but we're not gonna have a kitchen since we share the cafeteria of the hospital now so our kitchen people get relocated to our other facility.

I haven't had to relocate with my job but I have been expecting to have to for a long time now. We are simply running out of room and they just keep trying to pack stuff in the building. There were rumors for a while that we would open another factory but that is all they were...rumors. Sometimes I feel like there is barely room to turn around in there..lol. I would actually be excited if there was another plant open but I can see why you wouldn't. Cozy is a good thing.

Storage was one of our major issues too, we don't have hardly any room for all the equipment and we don't even have a real employees lounge but it sure is a cute building and so homey too but it also has lots of problems with the roof leaking when it rains and pluming issues

Change can be very good and it is many times unavoidable like in your case. Embrace it. When things stay the same too long things get stagnant and boring. Hopefully it will be an exciting change of pace and in the end you'll learn to love your new situation. Good luck!

As for me, i would be very excited about the change of location. It would be a new adventure to be relocated in another place and a different setting.
Once you are there , you will know what necessary adjustments you will do to make it as comfy as your former place of work.

The good thing about it is that everything is new and clean which makes it easy for me since I'm doing all the housekeping
