I was doing research for an article I'm trying to write, and I was going through the net looking for the best songs to work out to. It was surprising to see the different choices of songs people listen to, and it made me wonder why they chose that song. So I pose this question to all of you. What is your favorite song to work out to, and why is it you favorite song. How does it motivate you when you exercise?

Any song that makes me wanna dance, I consider them my work out music. I actually work out without music. But after a little stretching, I dance and do consider that as exercising :)) I usually dance to Beyonce's songs. The beats and tunes are really catchy and dancy and that is why I choose her :))

I love all of her music but the recent single "End of time" really gets me moving. Love the live performance, the music, the beats and the lyrics :))

When I do my workout and I have to do it everyday because this is part of my ongoing physio I play Korn or Rammstein. Music is very rhythmic and I love it. I'm sure other people play some pop or like Zumba lovers play latino. Good luck with your article. For whom you write if I can ask?

Is there a certain song you listen to from these groups. I feel like any good work out song should have a nice fast paced rhythm. I'm writing the article as a pet project right now, it's kind of tough because ther ar so many varying opinions on the subject.

I will give them a listen, see if I can add them too my list of the top 10 workout songs. I know both bands rock hard, so that must really get the blood pumping.

I'm not as young (or healthy) as I once was, and don't do much exercise, although I did a lot when I was young including press-ups, knee bends and weight lifting, but I never succeeded in becoming as muscular as I wanted. I had the kind of build that stays slim no matter what you do, eat, exercise, and so on. I'm not as slim as I was now, so I should still be working out, but I don't. At least, not much. But I'm still pretty agile and fit (amazingly), and occasionally, I'll do some exercise, but I really want to do more. Just recently I tried combining dance with exercise, but I didn't keep up with it; I must resume it. And a few days ago, I felt low, so put on some '80s Soul music (Shalamar) and did some dancing, and it cheered me up a little. What I'd like to do is exercise more regularly, and my work out music would definitely be Soul, or Disco music, preferably from the 70s or 80s, because it really energises me. I don't have a favourite song to work out to, but Shalamar's "Take that to the Bank" would be up there if I did. Recently I played "Get on the Floor" by Michael Jackson a lot and did some dancing to it. So that song would be a favourite if I had one, because of the incredible exhilerated energy it suggests. It makes me want to move, which is a good thing. Because unless I keep moving, I'm not going to be fit and agile for much longer.

Exercise is the fountain of youth. You may not be able to do it as vigorous as before but if you stop exercising its all down hill.

Hi Philly!
Well, that's maybe because each and everyone of us has different type and genres of music. For example, me; I can work well with a mellow music in the background.
Its something like a connection. I don't how, but its just like that (I guess.)

Really? What kind of mellow songs have you listened to in the past? What do you mean by connection? Is it like a personal connection you feel to a song?

Mine is 'Gonna Fly now' when running . The song is from the Rocky series. Gets me inspired to exercise when I remember those training montages. :)

It's funny how that movie changed the way everyone works out. I know Eye Of The Tiger was the number one work out song when I was doing my research.

Hi PhillyDreamer,
I love to play every music that captures my ears wherever which genre it belongs, I just love to sing and dance even though I am not that good! I made lots of concert in the bath room and performances in front of the mirror,it sounds crazy but I know many of us doing this! Music is my passion and i can not live without it!

I like to dance alone too, cause I'm not a very good dancer. I've always wanted to learn how to dance for real, but it seems hard because dancers are always in the best physical shape.

Everybody was given the freedom to dance and sing! It is not based on any physical appearance or movement but on how you enjoyed and loving it! So when I sing or dance I feel like one of the greatest diva ever! Funny but it is true! I con not mind who cares!

That is true, but I am referring more to the fancy dance moves then just dancing in general. It would be wonderful if I could do a back flip into a head stand. Then start doing a head spin right then and there. What dancers do is amazing, and i know its the ultimate work out.

Hi PhillyDreamer!
I usually play fast beat music. Maybe disco or remix. I don't think I would listen to mellow music as that would just put me to sleep. There is really no specific song that would keep me going. What is important is that it is upbeat.

It's funny that you would say that because I saw music from John Maher on one of the list, and I don't really consider that upbeat. It was an odd choice to me because I agree with you there has to be a fast tempo.
