Are mood swings sign of depression coz I don't know if I started this discussion on the correct interest/topic. Anyway, I've watched from a TV documentary about a month ago that there are people suffering from extreme mood swings, like for instance she was happy a minute ago and will be very depressed and sad the next minute. There was a medical term for that (which I forgot). I am a bit worried because I too am suffering from mood swings, although not an extreme one. Sometimes, I feel happy but will be mad or irritated within the same hour/day. Is there anyone here who also suffers the same kind of situation. Do you think it is normal?

What you feel my friend is what we normal persons feel. There are circumstances , gestures of others , words and the like that can trigger the change of mood in us. Even if you are so happy a while ago, but when somebody provokes you to a word fight or has spoken to you so rudely , for sure you will react violently too. But when it becomes a day to day scenario to be having extreme mood swings, then you might as well consult a psychologist about it.

Glad to hear I'm normal! :) Yeah, I believe it's just that there are a lot of stressful things that I suddenly thought of that triggers my mood swing. But as you've mentioned these are common to normal people so nothing to worry about. Whew! That'll save me money from going to a psychologist. LOL!

But you know my friend, i feel weird for myself too. In the morning as i ride the jeepney to work, i hate it when people seats by the door and let me give their fares to the driver, saying "bayad po", as if i am the conductor! So, in the morning as i go up the jeep on the jeepney stand where there are only a few seated, i would give my fare to the driver and seat myself by the door. At least, i don't have to let others give my fare to the driver. I couldn't help but feel, why i am like that?

Why do I have the strange feeling that this comment is for my other discussion? LOL! You may have written it for the discussion that I've started about Filipino habits of letting other passengers get their fares for them. Anyway, it may also be about mood swing because those kind of people can really ruin a good mood! :)

Mood swing is not a sign of depression. All of us have a mood swings. Mood swings happen due to our neurotransmitter that is inside our brain. Eating Chocolates will eliminate mood swings.

Really? Chocolates? I also remember reading once that chocolates trigger some sort of hormone that makes us happy or something like that. It's just that I also have a high sugar count in my blood so I can't eat a lot of them.

This is normal for the most part. A person with Bi-polar, or manic depression will experience extreme mood swings, but they also suffer from other things, such as control issues. The mood swings you are describing about the documentary you watched could be showing a person that is Bi-polar, but doesn't have manic episodes. There are many different types of Bi-polar.

Yeah, that's the term I believe. I remember the Radio DJ with mood swing also suffers from what appear to be a minor autism of some sort. Although it wasn't specified and the name of that girl wasn't mentioned, she appears to have a slight mental problem too. I wonder who that DJ is, her face was blured.

Hello! I think you're still normal. Or maybe, there exists people like you and me(having mood swings all the time. ) Well, I'm really a moody person. I got irritated all the time, and my mood is easily affected by little things like color, food, weather, or some un-explanatory reasons. I used to be the happiest person I have ever known, but since the day we moved out away from my "high school friends" my happiness was limited. I had worst time adjusting to new people in college. I hated college even now that I am graduating.

I think you might be suffering from chemical imbalance in the brain. But i am not sure, so don't worry. Mood swings is a normal and natural activity. But some people may develop bipolar and other mental disorders that are related with mood swings. If you don't have any mental disorder, you are completely normal, but though you are worrying then you might be really get affected to that disorder. Because what we think has great relation with body and our body starts behaving that way. So i advice you to stop worrying about it. Think as if you are normal. Mental diseases are very difficult to understand and explain to others. Go to psychologist, explain your issue as much deep as you can quickly before problem increases more. Mental disorders should always be cured in time. Otherwise they become uncurable. So go to psychologist quickly. I've sent you friend request, if you don't mind accept it.

Having mood swings does not necessarily imply that you have depression. Because normal healthy people do have mood swings too. When something good happens we will be happy and when bad thing occurs we will feel sad. It's pretty normal. But, if you experience extreme and sudden change of mood to sadness, you may have depression. And if such mood change cannot be controlled by you, you may have bipolar issue. And only if you cannot remember what happened and what you did during the extreme change of mood, you may be in serious mental illness. So, I think you are perfectly normal as of now.

hello, Lol, you made me scared. I also have a mood swing and I cant help myself because this is the attitude I want to vanish to myself. I think it is normal because I am not experiencing anything else. So, what are the other symptoms of it? Or what will be the effect to one person?

It can be a sign of depression but also a sign of (out of) hormone balance or just a period in one's life (to think over what to do or what is done with the life so far.Something many people do every few years). Also it can be the side effect of medication. There are many reasons why people can have mood swings it all depends on the kind of mood swings and the personal situation.

I faced similar situations and there was a problem with my thyroid gland. Maybe you can talk a doctor and give you more expert advice. I think you should take care of this, it might be organic or phycological the reason of your mood changing.
