Oh myg I picked up a virus day before Christmand then almost got over it and wham Kathy started coughing, now I have been coughing nonstop for over ten days so today I called my doctor, well he will be gone all next week so got an appointment with one of his colleagues who is a good doctor. I am just worn out from constant coughing and the crap I spit up has turned yellow so think I have bronchitis and need anti' biotics.I feel drained and I guess at my age its best not to fool around,., Your take mylotters, am i just sp oking out or is it a wise decision?

it's a very wise decision, coughing for that length of time is much more than a noraml everyday cold and could very well be bronchitis, which does require an antibiotic. You are certainly doing the right thing by consulting a doctor.

Hi Jujunne yes thats what I have concluded as I have had bronchitis before and it did not yield to over the counter meds. While my own doctor is on vacation she made me an appt with Dr. chang and I know him too,he is also a great doctor so I will soon get well.

Hatley, you were so RIGHT to call the doctor! It could be anything--as simple as a cold to as dangerous as pneumonia! Please keep us updated on what the doctor's diagnosis is--it's not good to not take care of yourself at ANY age!

I know how exhausting it can be when you cough and cough and cough but NEVER get any relief--it just drains you! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Hatley, at our age it is always best to go see the doctor when you get this ill. Don't be a stubborn donkey like me and wait until the pnuemonia has you hallucinating and people have to call 9-1-1 for you

hi fwidman yes I had two episodes today with bloody streaked crap so I think it was smart of me to make that appt as it might be more serious than just virus as its in my chest and I have not had a pneumonia shot in four years. amd I sure do not need another ambulance bill as am still paying off the last one. thanks. needed assurance.

Dear Ms Hatley This is not right dear. Not only you but anyone, should be more concerned about health as I have realized (after neglecting my health for so many years) that if it is good health, you are and can do much more than when you are ill. Please get yourself tested and find out what the ailment is. I am sure it is not anything severe and a simple medication will help you get back your good health. Also, as you say - at my age its best not to fool around... Dear, you are one of my best friends and unfortunately I am way too far from you. If I was around, I would have dropped at your place and took you for the tests and also the doctors. I hope you find someone to help you Please take care of your health

hi thesids I gave in and have an appt for Tu eday monring with a colleague of my own doctor, Dr chang who is also a fine doctor as I am sure its bronchitis and needs an antibiotic since the over the counter meds are doing nothing. oddly I kept my own doctor e4ven though I am now ten miles away as he knows my health so well as I have had him for years. I hate changing doctors, and the one they use here for my co residents I do not trust at all.Tnamnks for your\concern. i will call the access bus Monday to schedule a roung trip to my doctor. its a real boon for us seniors who have a hard time going on the regular buses. also they pick me up here at Gold Crest and take me straight to my doctor then comer back in an hour and take me right back to the front door. The drivers are wonderful, so kind and helpful It costs 5 dollars aqd forty cents but cab fare would be outrageous so I dont mind this cost. Unlike the city bus these drivers really are courteous and helpful and when you use a stupid walker thats a big deal.

That is so very nice news dear ms. Hatley - the bus available for senior citizens with really courteous drivers at your place. Changing doctors is not advisable though as the regular doctor(s) is more aware of other facts about our bodies and would prescribe medicines that our bodies really need and also the number of tests would be lesser. I wish you a better health and a speedier recovery, my dear lady

Yes. I think it was a wise decision. You can never quite tell what's quite going on in your body unless you're a physician. I mean, spitting up yellow mucus is usually a sign of an infection, so yes, you might need antibiotics. Just get it checked out. Good luck, Hatley! And feel better!

when you cough up yellow phlegm or sometimes greenish, it could be an indication of a bacterial infection together with the viral one that triggered it, could be sinus or bronchial in nature too, yes at your age, doctor is best because of our diminished ability to fight off infection that younger people usually does not have much of a hard time to do, yes consult your doctor and prevent it from turning to pneumonia which could sometimes become deadly for the elderly, good luck friend and wish you the best of health...

I learned years ago how quickly bronchitis could turn to phemonia and turn deadly and you may not even realize how bad it was. They told me that I was knocking on deaths door when I had a combination of bronchitis and pnomonia. I was coughing a lot and felt tired but just kept thinking if I could stop the coughing and get some sleep that I'd be fine. As bad as I felt, I didn't feel that bad. It creeps up on you and you may not even realize how bad things have gotten until it's too late.

hi sid yes at first I thought its just a virus then okay maybve its bronchitis so yesterday I phoned and while my own doctor wont be there next week she made an appt with a Dr. Alvin Chang . I know him and hes an excellent doctor. I have seen blood specked crap now several times today so am doubly sure that I made the right decision as its more than a virus. I will get better now with the right medication. I had walkimg pneumonia years back and scarily this feels a lot like that as every time I try to take a deep breath I start coughing.I had myflu shot but it has not protected me 'for some reason.

Absolutely you should be seeing a doctor. If you've got a cough which is leaving you feeling worn out, then it's time to get checked out. I hope you're feeling better soon. Keep warm and well nourished, and make sure you call the doctor again if t gets any worse.

hi greenmoo my best friend told me to have my doctor phone in a prescription but he does not do that. He told me many times he has to see me as he needs to know whats wrong first then prescribe the right medication. I have to see one of his colleagues as he is on vacation all week. I have spent each morning in bed hoping the extra rest would do it but its not so Tuesday I will see the doctor.

Well hatley.... self detection of any disease is very bad. You are thinking that you have bronchitis but may be you have not a simple indication of it, so consult with doctor rather than thinking yourself and getting tensed. Days ago, i had the same dry cough and even lost my voice. I had to attend a national seminar on 11th last, so i rushed to doctor and now i am okay. So be hurry. Have a nice time.
