If you want a cat......don't hire a dog....

So, the powers that be in New England decided to invite hometown hero and hard core Patriots fan Steven Tyler to sing The National Anthem before Sunday's AFC Championship game between New England and Baltimore. Now Steven has a VERY distinct voice......it's a sound he actually developed early in his career to make him stand out from other singers at the time....and it obviously worked.....propelling Tyler and his band Aerosmith into rock and roll icon status.....also when Steven sings, there's no mistaking him for someone else. He's got a raspy, nasally, voice and a trademark scream/screech that he generously uses throughout his songs..........he's one of the top male rock and roll vocalists of ALL TIME because of his unique style. So the 63 year old, on again-off again drug addict, raspy voiced scream rocker, stood there in 32 degree winds in front of millions of people and sang the already hard to sing song EXACTLY like Steven Tyler......his voice was slightly off, but again......it's Steven Tyler.......his voice is always slightly off......THAT'S HIS STYLE. Before the game was even over, the media was already crucifying Mr. Tyler for "butchering" The National Anthem. I don't know what people expected.......we got Steven Tyler singing like Steven Tyler and in the end sounding exactly like Steven Tyler! If people wanted country, they should have hired Garth Brooks..... If they wanted opera, they should have hire pavaroti. But apparently they wanted Steven Tyler and that's EXACTLY what they got......Steven Tyler. He sang the song with dignity and respect.......listen to Roseane Barr's version if you want to hear disrespect for our national song. He DID mess up the words......he sang "as bomb bursting in air" instead of "the bombs bursting in air." Ooooooh.......you want to hear messed up lyrics listen to Christina Aguilera's version.......she changed entire lines of the song......not to mention she "showboated" through the entire song......The Star Spangled Banner should not be used for showboating! (Steven Tyler is the unquestionable KING OF SHOWBOATING.......he didn't....) Anyhoo.......I could rant forever about this......but 50% of myLotters probably haven't even read this far. Anyways......GOOD JOB STEVEN! You'll always be at the top of my list. BTW.....if you read the reader comments in ALL the "Steven Tyler Bashing" articles, you'll see that like me, 99.9999999% of the readers, like me, also support Mr. Tyler.........just another example of the media and their "monkey see - monkey do" journalism. .......your thoughts?

I guess the incompetent commentators thought Steven Tyler should have done his best Whitney Houston impression, instead of his best!

hi I did not hear it but they got what they wanted so why crucify' him for singing in the o nly style he knows. If he was respectful it had to a lot better than Roseanne Barr , I did see that and J felt like she should have used common sense. Our national Anthem is not to be used as a comedy skit which is what she did.Steve Tyler just did it his way. lol The National Anthem is really a hard one to sing as is the hymn Oh Holy Night and a lot of good singers butcher both of these too.

I'm sure they knew what kind of style Tyler sang before they asked him to do this. So, they got just exactly what they asked for. Now they need to shut up and enjoy the show.

Yeah.....it's been a couple of years since I actually started a discussion......I do stop in every now and then to leave smart a$$ comments on my friend's discussions. But I decided I would start up again in 2012......before that whole end of the world mess catches up to us.........besides, I'm tired of seeing my earnings stuck on that $5 mark.

yeah me too. I actually got restarted about a couple of months ago. I decided I was losing a perfectly good opportunity by not participating more. I had also said (when I typed this comment before) that I didn't know where my smileys had gone. Come to find out I was not signed in. I don't know how that happened but from time to time it does. I really hate to have to sign back in because then you have to deal with all those offers, most of them you can skip but you get down to the last one and there is no skip button on it. So the only thing you can do is close the window and start over.

I saw it this morning. It was Steven Tyler doing a great impression of um... what's that group I'm thinking of? You know it's like mega rock? Oh Yeah I remember... Aerosmith. And as for screwing up the lines... honestly how many of them even know all of the lyrics? Please, we all know the bomb parts, and the dawn part, and that bit toward the end part... but could any of us really sing the whole thing, in real time, in the cold, and make everyone happy? I am happy he did it. I have no issue with it. I like the man. So everyone else can suck a working man's dirty toe. Oh and I think I read the word "game" in your post. *shrug* Just sayin'

Aaaaah TLC, you're a worthy adversary in the game of life.........and I'm glad we're on the same side. Just remember the number one rule when playing the game.........NEVER BRING A CAKE TO A PIE FIGHT!
