do you smile to someone who greets you HI even if you don't know them?

I do try to smile when I greet people, even if they're strangers. I find that it makes me feel better and brightens my day. Hopefully it does for them too.

Me too Chewy. I say hello to strangers on the streets in the store at work all the time. And I agree...it does brighten your day! Another thing is when I have done that with people here in the office (there are about 4000 of us here at my office) the next time I see them we recognize each other and it is even more friendly. Wonder why that makes us feel so good? Must be human nature and you and my sunny disposition Chewy!

If you would want people to do the same to you you should smile at them when they say hi to you.So in otherwords yes I do or at least always try to.

i'll check the person first. i won't smile back to that person if:
1. i suspect that the person's crazy
2. i suspect that person's up to sell something (i.e. insurance, credit card, etc)
3. i suspect that person's smiling to the person behind me.
outside the three conditions, i will surely smile back at him/her.
