Books I mean! It drives other people crazy and it bothers me! I am so scared of people asking me the question all the time I don't even take my book to work anymore! I read at my own pace and there is nothing wrong with it! Nothing! Am the only one who feels this way when reading a book? I can't be alone!

Well , I think I can give you a solution for reading a book faster. If you take some minuts and focus just to read a paragraph or maybe a page , you will see it takes you some minuts to understand that page or paragraph. If you do it 4 times a day , you will read 1 or 2 pages in one day. If you find it is too easy , you will plan your time to read some more pages in one day. You can also focus on finding the answer to some questions by reading the book so that reading will be more productive and practic. Reading makes me tired and I don't always enjoy what I read , It makes me slow but I find myself my own technics to read fast or understand faster. I also have a low self esteem and when a girl in the salsa club laugh at me , I can stop talking to her and that's really not fun for me even being at the same place where she is or seeing her. It takes me time to deal with thing like that. I try to talk with the person who hurt me through facebook i'm good at writing more than with talking. (as you see my long respond )

It looks like you live among people who like reading books and it is important to them. This is for itself a very good thing. Now , many people just go to see T.V and the books are left untouched for a long time... Where I live , I don't know many people who read books. Only if they have to study. I personally like books and appreciates them and the efforts done for writing them.

I never took to reading until I got to read What I wanted! That was around age 14? My mom listened to a teacher who told her to let me read What I wanted. In timemy speed increased but by no means am I a fast reader either. These days I read more email than Books. And the books I read are small. It would frustrate me if others were to say I was reading to slowly. I would become even slower! The main thing is to enjoy what you are reading Not the pace. It isn't a race!

You are right! It is not a race and I should not worry about how fast I read! I have loved to read since I was a kid! I still do and I don't read really long books either! I also like to read articles on the internet and in magazines and newspapers.

The important thing is to read as much as one can, but not necessarily to break a reading record! Enjoy and savour every book, magazine, or article you come across, so just take your time and don't worry about receiving criticism!

I am happy to see that you are aware of your problem, which is the first step! The second step would be to do something about it, which I can see you are also doing! So there go two non criticism comments! Have fun and keep on reading and enjoying!

I have trouble with criticism and I need to continue working on it! If I had more confidence this would not be such a problem with reading! Ugh!

No, I don't read as fast as some of my friends, and I'm a pretty good reader, but only because, like most faster readers, I skip words and sometimes that word I skipped was important - so I have to go back and read it again.

You should ignore other people. I always have a book going but I tend to read it at times when I'm waiting for my daughter at an appoinment or whenI'm bored. IT sometimes takes me a long time to read a book. Let others think what they will. it's not their business.

I know I should not let it bug me! One of the people who has bugged me about it is the guy who tried to convince me to buy a Kindle last year! He is also the person who tried to convince me to buy a new computer last year! I yelled at him about those two things and he finaally let me alone on the subjects! If he brings the reading up again,I have to yell at him, again! It sometimes takes a while for people to get stuff through their thick skulls, like my friend Chris!

I would not worry about it. I too like to take my time reading. I use to read faster years ago but, as I have gotten older I am just not into reading as much as I use to be. I really should get back into it. You are definitely not alone.

I have gone through streaks when it comes to reading. I did when I was a kid and sometimes I still do. Sometimes not. I just have to be in the right mood. I also have trouble with comprehending and reading slow helps me with it! If nopt I forget alot of stuff and end up going back to reread stuff! The story of my life!

I find that if I am not overly interested in the book or subject that I will not comprehend or retain what I have read either. But, if it is something I am really enjoying then I will retain what I have read as well as comprehend. I tried reading the old King James Bible a long time ago, the way it was worded I would have to read a page 7 times before I somewhat understood it. My cousin send me a bible that was written so we could understand it, I could read more of it and actually understand it. But, I never got through it either.

I have never been into books mainly because I am a slow reader as well and I need complete quiet, so I hardly ever read books.

I love reading books and I go through streaks when I read alot. Then I don't go those streaks. I just hate when people see me read and have to be so critical about it! Sometimes I don't read everyay! I wish people would stop bugging me about my reading!

I really wouldn't worry about it at all. It takes me a while to read things as well. I don't think that it should be a huge deal. We should all read at our own pace. Some people read more quickly than others. That's just the way it is. We're all different, and we should accept it.

You are just being paranoid of what other people say. Just go with your natural speed of reading. Why should they care about your reading speed and habits? They should be minding their own business. Don't get caught by what they are trying to mock you at. There really is no harm in slow reading. Unless it is a very slow and inappropriate already in certain situations which makes it an epic fail. Just go on with your own natural speed of reading.

I do get paranoid and it looks like I could be again! I get way to sensitive sometimes and this is another example! I still suffer from lack of self-confidnece from time to time! Hopfully I will get over this someday for good!

I think it depends honestly. If I really enjoy the book and am into it then I will read through it very quickly, but this is only for books that are simply pleasure reads. If it is a deeper work, which I also enjoy reading, then I will take my time and read the books, trying to fully understand the themes, and conflicts, underlying tones, etc. I think if it is your pace of reading slow, then there is no problem, because that is simply how you read.

I can't read a book fast or even articles in magazines and newpapers! I have trouble, sometimes, comprehending things. When I read to fast I also forget parts of what I read! Then I go back and reread stuff! When I was younger I reread alot of my books because I had read them to fast! Some books I tried to read and they were a dang struggle! Like the books by James Herriot, the english vetrinarian! So I try yo read books that I am familar with the era and stay with alot of the same authors. Anyway I need to stop worring about this and keep on doing what I do!
